Work Text:

The sky looked dark. Pitch black. Haunting. Like an unforgettable nightmare. The one that chased her.

The stars hid behind the heavy clouds; occasionally peeking through.
Too scared to reveal themselves. Unlike her scattered mind. New thoughts and worries popping up beyond her control.

The air was damp and chilly.

The episodic sharp howls of those old wolves breaking the soft hushes of the slow breeze passing by. Cold shivers down her spine.

Even so amidst all the darkness, the moon was shining bright.

Yet she dared not look for long. Afraid her sorrows wouldn't leave it either. What if they swallow it whole?

The pond below mirroring the moon. Its glow was like a siren in the sea- ethereal, enchanting, gluing her glance to it.

It wasn't perfect.
The soft ripples of the water breaking the flawless sphere inside.

Nonetheless the rise and fall of the waves was rhythmic, almost musical.
Pleasant to the soul. Like a healer; mending the open wounds of her heart.

She sat by the pond huddled up. The nippy waters prodding her feet. Her gaze still fixed on the moon glade.

It was calming, like a hypnotizing wheel.
Just, it pulled out the secrets she hid beneath.
The ones she wasn't ready to face... yet.

Except, soon she realized.
How vain it was!

She couldn't help but scoff at herself.
"Even believed that." A voice in her head mocked.

She wanted to shut it out. Despite how much she hated it, she had to admit. It was true.

No substance beneath. Just pure deception.
The trap her own eyes set for her.

The delicate and graceful beauty was as real as joy in her life.

Just an outward show. Empty underneath.
The mask that was just torn apart.
