The bullet holes in the Sunnydale welcome sign were the first clue that this town didn't care about college brochures. At twenty-one, Buffy Summers should’ve been stressing over prerequisites, utility bills, and finding a decent parking pass. Instead, she was hauling an iron-bound crate packed with oak stakes and a stolen medieval battle-axe up the stairs of Stevenson Hall.
Buffy was a statistical impossibility, a glitch in a cosmic system that usually called its Chosen Ones at fifteen—naïve, easily manipulated teenagers. Instead, the lottery hit Buffy five years late. She was a grown woman with a lease, real-world cynicism, and a stubborn desire to just be a normal junior who took history seminars, advanced dance classes, and went ice skating after midnight.
But Sunnydale was built on the Hellmouth, a fault line of ancient malice. Students were vanishing from the quad, leaving behind only empty shoes and rumors whispered in the dorms. The local predators assumed a twenty-one-year-old transfer would be soft and easy to break. They were completely wrong.
