'Cause I Loved You Then, And I Love You Now

Summary:

"Pyro, why do you always pretend you don't want this?" Scott asked, words suddenly clear.

"What?"

"Pyro," Scott pressed, voice scarily sober.

"I don't know why you mean?"

“Well you always have been a terrible actor," Scott chuckled.

"Scott..."

"You said it yourself, Pyro... if you missed me so much, why don't you prove it," Scott challenged, leaning closer.

Close enough to kiss.

Pyro’s heart leapt against his rib cage.

"Fine," Pyro glared, before bringing his mouth to Scott’s

Work Text:

Scott had a bad feeling about the party the moment he stepped into the Vulpes common room.

"In and out." He had promised himself, he didn't have the energy to deal with a party tonight.

But Shelby had insisted he come, and he didn't want to let her down.

So in he went.

The common room was completely transformed. Pill bottles littered every available surface, mixed among crushed beer cans, overturned cups and cigarette ash that dusted the polished wooden tables. The rich scent of old leather and expensive furniture had been overwhelmed by the suffocating combination of alcohol, sweat, smoke, and something sickly sweet Scott couldn’t identify

The antique furniture now bore several couples all in different stages of undress. Each kiss caused another group to dash off hiding behind the grandfather clock or under a table.

Neon lights flashed violently in shades of pink, blue, and toxic green, bathing the room in chaotic bursts of color. Every drumbeat synced perfectly with the lights, creating a dizzying rhythm that made the entire room feel unreal, like a drunken fever dream.

People danced recklessly in the middle of the room, bodies colliding without apology. Others screamed over the music despite standing inches apart. Drinks sloshed across the floorboards as groups shoved past each other, laughing far too loudly at jokes nobody else could hear. Someone climbed onto a table and immediately slipped, which only caused another wave of drunken cheering. It seemed impossible that this many people could fit inside the common room without the walls collapsing inward.

The sheer volume of it all sent a sharp ache pulsing behind Scott’s eyes. Every shout felt like a needle stabbing into his skull. Every flash of neon burned against his vision. It was all so much that it was getting difficult to breathe properly. He already regretted coming.

Scott tentatively walked forward, desperate not to be noticed.

But of course no such luck.

The second his foot crossed the threshold Sausage immediately ran up to him, slinging one arm over his shoulder and accidently bumping his beer bottle into Scott's temple with the other.

"Oh sorry!" He grinned sloppily. Despite his energetic tone Scott couldn't help but notice the slight slur to the words.

"Scott!" Graecie exclaimed, running over.

"I feel like we haven't seen each other in forever," She practically screamed over the thumping bass.

"Yeah," Scott mumbled.

So much for in and out.

"Into this sooo fun!" Sausage roared, aggressively shaking his head to the synth waves pouring out of the speakers.

"Sure." Scott shrugged.

He had stopped going to parties after Pyro left Tegrith. Afterall what was the point of a party if you didn't have anyone to go with?

"Come oooon Scott cheer up!" Graecie wailed, pulling the man towards the dance floor.

"Yeah, come dance with us!" Sausage demanded, wobbling slightly on his feet without the support from Scott's broad shoulders.

"I'm good," Scott insisted, looking around the room, desperately searching for an escape.

"Wait, have you seen Shelby?" Scott asked, grabbing Sausage before he could stumble after Graecie and over to Legs.

"Noooo not since we got here…." Sausage slurred, "She ran off like instantly!"

"Alright thanks," Scott said, strolling over to Aimsey and Jojo who were talking over by a large bowl of what Scott could only hope was fruit punch.

"Have either of you seen Shelby? We were supposed to meet here," Scott questioned.

"Oh, you're looking for Shelby," Jojo laughed.

"Yeah! She's right over there," Aimesy replied, pointing over her shoulder, stifling a chuckle.

Scott immediately thanked them and headed over to where his friend had pointed only to, only to quickly look away out of pure embarrassment.

Across the room, hidden in a shadowy corner, obviously trying to avoid attention was Shelby and Drift.

Not that they were doing a particularly good job of it.

Drift had Shelby pressed against the wall, one hand braced beside her head, while the other gripped tightly at her waist. She was kissing her with the sloppy, ferocity that only surfaced when someone was hopelessly drunk. Every movement was unsteady but intense. Messy around the edges, but painfully sincere underneath.

Shelby had one hand coiled though Drift’s dark, messy locks and her legs wound tightly around the woman's waist, keeping them glued chest-to-chest with almost no space left between them.

The two were locked together so tightly Scott didn't think even he could pull them apart.

Scott turned on his heel.

He didn't need to watch this and certainly didn't need to be at this party anymore.

He just wanted out.

"Hey handsome…" A voice slurred, as a strong arm wrapped around his waist securing him there.

Scott instantly stiffened.

"Please let go, I'm trying to leave," Scott said, curtly, gesturing towards the exit while trying to pry the man’s heavy arm off him.

"Now why would a pretty face like you want to leave soon?" The man crowed, voice dripping with drunken confidence.

Scott tried to turn away, but the man caught his cheek with two fingers and forced his face back toward him. The touch made Scott’s stomach twist immediately.

"Get off me," Scott grunted.

"You seem so stressed darling, don't you want to relax?" The man said slowly, curling his hands up Scott's shirt, fingertips grazing his navel.

"Try these and then we can really have some fun." The man tilted his head as he pulled a handful of pills out from his pocket.

Something cold settled in Scott’s chest.

"Get the fuck away!" Scott snarled, words like icy blades, before pushing the man away from him as hard as he could.

"And this is why I hate parties," Scott whispered to himself as he sped away from the man.

He breathed a large sigh of relief as the door finally came into view between the tightly pressed bodies.

He could feel the sweat soaking through his classmates' shirts as he pushed them.

He could smell the alcohol on their lips.

He could sense their buzzing, drunken energy.

He was so close to the door when he heard it.

The loud, booming laugh that had haunted him for years.

Pyro...

Scott couldn't help but turn towards the sound.

He didn't want to, but he couldn't resist.

And there he was.

Surrounded by peers.

A slightly crazed smile stretching across his face.

A mostly empty bottle sitting in his hand as he loudly boasted about his adventures after he had left his pathetic home town of Tegrith.

Drunk.

Pyro Dagmeare was drunk.

Scott didn't know why but he still felt a little bit of responsibility for the man.

Maybe that's why Scott found himself walking over to where Pyro was lounging on top of a pile of empty bottles, emanating the familiar stench of whiskey and beer.

Maybe that's why Scott found himself pulling Pyro away from the group of drunk roommates, despite his groans and moans of protest.

Maybe that's why Scott dragged Pyro through the crowd, out the door and into a dimly lit corridor.

"Scott what the fuck was that!" Pyro hissed, "What are you doing here, I thought you hated parties?"

"What the fuck am I doing? What the fuck are you doing getting that drunk and blabbing to a group of strangers about your whole life story?" Scott screamed back.

“They’re not strangers,” he shot back defensively. “They’re my friends.”

Then, because he was angry and drunk and hurting too, he added with a bitter sneer, “But I guess you wouldn’t know much about having friends here, Scott.”

The second the words left Pyro’s mouth he instantly regretted it as Scott’s face hardened like ice.

"I just don't want to see you get hurt okay.  I don't care that you hate me, I still don't want you hurt." Scott glared, eyes blazing.

"I don't hate you." Pyro defend, shock flashing through his eyes.

Scott laughed once. Cold and humorless.

"Oh really? Then why did you leave?" Scott asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"It had nothing to do with you, I wanted-"

"Oh right, of course, you wanted adventure and to see the world," Scott rolled his eyes, voice dripping with mockery.

"Stop LYING!"

"I'M NOT!" Pyro screamed back, his face slowly getting redder and redder with frustration, but that only fulled Scott's anger.

"Yes, you are! We both know that the only reason you left Tegrith was because you didn't care about anyone there!"

Pyro looked like Scott had slapped him.

"What the fuck?"

"Shut up Pyro! You never cared about me. You just woke up and left one day and never looked back and never thought about what it would do to me." Scott roared.

"That's not true!"

"You were the only person I ever had, Pyro that wasn't obligated to love me. And you left me!" Scott cried.

"I had to Scott! I couldn't stay there any longer!" Pyro spat.

"Sure you couldn't. You just couldn't resist the thought of adventure, could you?" Scott smirked.

"You just could resist abandoning everyone you've ever known,"

"Scott,” Pyro said sharply, jaw tightening, “I'm not going to lie to you and pretend I'm sorry for leaving."

"Wow progress," Scott said in a sarcastic tone. "What are you going to admit to next asshole?"

That hit Pyro a little harder than he thought it would.

Seeing the icy rage in Scott's violet eyes disturbed him more than he would ever admit.

"But I am sorry for leaving you…" Pyro whispered, reaching out a hand, hoping, praying that Scott would reach out and grab it.

That it could be like how it used to.

That Pyro could pretend he hadn't left.

But Scott turned away sharply before Pyro could touch him.

"Save your bullshit," He hissed.

And before Pyro could stop him, Scott shoved past him and disappeared back into the chaos of the party.

Pyro stood there frozen for a moment after he vanished.

Then, slowly, he slid down the wall until he hit the floor, elbows on his knees, one hand dragging through his hair.

“Fuck…” he muttered weakly into the pounding music.

。・:*˚:✧。

Scott didn't care anymore.

What was the point, it never got him anywhere.

"Hey Callum, pass me a drink will ya," Scott groaned, reaching out an expecting hand to his roommate.

And thank God he obliged because the only thing Scott could think of doing, as he yanked out the bottle stopper and tipped the contents down his throat, was getting absolutely blackout drunk.

。・:*˚:✧。

Pyro frantically searched the room for Scott.

He had to tell Scott that he still wanted him.

He couldn't let him forget about what they used to have.

He had to make this right.

。・:*˚:✧。

Scott felt like he hadn't lived before that night.

One drink had gone by in seconds, the second and third were similar. By the fourth he was starting to feel a little tipsy. But he continued on to a fifth and maybe a sixth?

Scott truthfully couldn't remember.

It felt like a wonderful blissful fog and engulfed him, taking all his problems with it.

He didn't really know how he had found himself on the dance floor.

But he frankly didn't care, because this was the first time he hadn't been thinking about Pyro.

And it was incredible.

He was having the time of his life.

Swaying to the music.

Finding his hands in others' hair.

Discovering his lips on theirs.

Feeling their tongues slipping between his lips.

Biting down.

Whispering nicks down their necks.

Feeling their hand sliding up his shirt and beneath his belt.

God he missed being drunk.

It all felt so freeing.

Pyro could go fuck himself for all Scott cared.

。・:*˚:✧。

Scott...

Pyro couldn't look away.

There he was dancing with some other man.

They had their arms wrapped around his neck, brushing up against his pale, blond strands of hair.

He had his arms wound snugly around their waist.

Pyro couldn't help but shudder as Scott brought his lips to the other man's.

Shit.

Pyro really wasn't over him, was he?

"Pyro!" A voice exclaimed.

Pyro didn't give a fuck who.

"So good to see you…" The voice slurred.

Pyro tried to push them away but before they could the stranger had pressed their lips against Pyro’s.

He sunk into the kiss for a split second.

"Maybe this is for the best," His brain rebelled before he realized what he was doing and immediately pushed them away.

"I'm sorry, I have to go," He said, rushing towards Scott.

。・:*˚:✧。

Scott didn't even notice Pyro behind him.

He was too caught up in the man he was kissing.

They tasted deliciously like alcohol and Scott couldn't help drinking them up.

"Hey," The man whispered, drawing back from the kiss.

"Do you want to finish this somewhere else?" He suggested, a grin spreading across his face as gesturing towards the door.

"Sure…" Scott whispered, hanging on his every word, as the man began to unbutton his shirt.

No

No one got to touch Scott like that.

That honor only belonged to Pyro.

"Fuck off you prick," Pyro snarled, striking the man across the face.

"Don't you dare touch him!"

"What are you doing Pyro," Scott slurred as the man limped off.

"Scott, you’re drunk lets go," Pyro whispered.

"Like you aren't." Scott smiled, slumping onto Pyro's chest and fiddling with the strings tying his top closed.

"Scott, you clearly aren't in your right mind," Pyro gritted out, it pained him not to try to take at least a little advantage of Scott's current state but he knew he would never be able to live it down.

"Pyro, you shouldn't have left me," Scott whispered, looking up at the man with his lovely lavender eyes.

"I know," Pyro whispered, "I've regretted it almost every day but we have to go,"

"I missed you Pyro," Scott smiled, looping his arms around the man’s shoulders.

Pyro felt his cheeks flush as he patted Scott on the back.

He wasn't about to let himself get caught up in the delusions that Scott still had feelings for him.

"Scott, let's get you back to your room," Pyro insisted, trying to pull Scott towards the door.

"Only if you come with me," Scott muttered.

"Nope, that's not happening." Pyro shook his head, turning away before Scott could see him blush.

"Pyro why do you always pretend you don't want this?" Scott asked, words suddenly clear.

"What?"

"Pyro." Scott pressed, voice scarily sober.

"I don't know why you mean?"

“Well you always have been a terrible actor," Scott chuckled.

"Scott..."

"You said it yourself Pyro... if you missed me so much why don't you prove it," Scott challenged leaning closer.

Close enough to kiss.

Pyro’s heart leapt against his rib cage.

"Fine," Pyro glared, before bringing his mouth to Scott’s.

Scott tasted like icy dreams and cold wishes.

His lips were so cold and sharp it felt like Pyro was kissing a knife.

But if kissing Scott was like kissing a knife, then Pyro was addicted to pain.

Pyro didn't think he would ever recover from the kiss the moment Scott's tongue slipped into his mouth dancing around with cold, intoxicating precision.

Each motion of Scott's lips, each graze of his teeth, each movement and flick of his tongue would most likely be engraved in Pyro's mind for the rest of his life.

Eventually Pyro had to draw back to catch his breath, lugs heaving for oxygen.

"Come on…" Scott panted, pulling him from the room.

。・:*˚:✧。

Scott felt a giddy feeling fill his veins as he raced down the hall pulling Pyro with him.

"Scott, wait up," Pyro shrieked, an excited tone in his voice Scott hadn't heard in many years.

"Fine, race you!" Scott screamed, tearing off down the hall.

He felt like he was on top of the world.

He had just kissed Pyro.

"Fuck you," Pyro huffed as he finally arrived at Scott’s room at least twenty seconds after Scott.

"That's a little forward," Scott smirked.

"Shut up and kiss me Borathath," Pyro glared.

"Whatever you say Dagmeare," Scott smiled, bringing his lips to Pyro's.

Pyro tasted like fire.

His mouth was so hot it was almost painful.

Almost.

Every moment burned with power and certainty, Scott couldn't help falling into it.

As he opened his mouth to let Pyro's tongue in he moaned with delight.

His tongue was like a hot poker dancing around his mouth, leaving burns with every flick.

Scott was sure the next day he might regret it, but right now it felt like he might as well be kissing the sun.

"This isn't fair," He whispered before biting down on Pyro's lip causing the man to flinch.

Scott was nervous for a second that he had hurt the man but only a second later Pyro picked him up and thrusted him onto his bed and kissed him with force that Scott had no idea he even had.

Pyro kissed Scott like a man starved, the taste of alcohol burning though his mouth.

He slid his hands up Scott's thighs to come to a rest on Scott's waist, firm and grounding.

Pyro was not satisfied until their chests were pressed as close as they could go, practically melting into one another.

Scott sighed as Pyro's hand gripped tighter, the heat searing through his clothes.

"Two can play at that game," He thought to himself and instantly wrapped his legs securely around Pyro's waist, flipping him onto his back.

Scott wasn't playing safe this time and hungrily began to devour all he was allowed to have.

Pyro shivered as Scott's lips traveled downwards, eventually closing over his pulse and kissed him hard.

Pyro could already feel the skin bruising but didn't think to care as he leaned down to snag Scott's ear with his teeth.

Scott flinched.

"Foul play," he groaned, sitting up.

Pyro beamed as Scott retaliated by pressing an icy kiss to his scalding lips.

“If that's the punishment…”

"Well I guess I'll play dirty then."
