Work Text:
Tim sends out the first message before they leave the beach. Lucy snaps a few pictures and then presses a kiss to his cheek and mutters I love you before she’s taking off her shoes and moving closer to the water.
Tim watches her for a few minutes before pulling his phone out, he texts his mom first of course. He sends her a picture first and then waits a few seconds.
Tim: Just wanted you to know..
Joy: Oh Timmy. You proposed on the beach? That’s so romantic!
Joy: She did say yes!
Tim: Did you think she would say no?
Joy: Of course I knew she would say yes. I’m so happy for you Timmy.
Tim: Thank you mom. I’m really happy.
Joy sends a bunch of heart emoji’s. Tim smiles and then clicks to the next person. He looks up at Lucy but she’s still standing there. He has a few more minutes. He clicks on Angela’s name. His friend would kill him if he didn’t update her. And he did owe her for finding the ring.

Tim: I did it!
Angela: Oh my god Tim.
Tim: I know.
Angela: I am so happy for you! Now you better not run off and get eloped. If you do I swear to god Tim.
Angela: I am going to help plan your wedding. What’s your mom’s number?
Angela: You know what? Nolan knows Genny. I’ll ask him.
Angela: Oh my god.
Tim: You are worse than my mom.
Tim: Can you believe this? I get to marry her. She said yes.
Angela: Of course she did!
Tim: I love her.
Angela: I know you do.

Tim smiles at the messages and then looks up just as Lucy walks over to him with her shoes in her hand.
“Hi,” She says and she has a smile on her face that he is sure matches his own. He can’t stop smiling. “You ready to go home?”
“Yes.” He says and he wraps his arm around her and pulls her into his side. “Are you ready to get all the messages from my mom about planning the wedding?”
“Maybe we should elope.”
“Angela already threatened me with that.” Tim says grinning at her. “Probably not a great idea.”
“Hmm.” Lucy says. “I do want a wedding. A small one. Just our friends and family. Something private.”
“I love that.” Tim says. “I’ll do anything you want to do.”
“It’s your wedding too.” Lucy points out putting a hand on his cheek and smiling at him.
“The only thing I care about is if it’s you walking down the aisle.”
“Oh.” Lucy says and she wraps her arms around his neck and pulls him close. “Let’s go home.” Tim takes her hand and they walk off the beach together.
He never cared for the beach or the water.
But this he knows he will remember for this rest of his life.

Genny: Yes! Finally! I’m so happy for you both.
Tim: I haven’t felt this way in a long time Genny.
Genny: I know. I love Lucy.
Tim: you and mom have been talking about this for a long time.
Genny: Maybe.
Tim: We want a small wedding.
Genny: got it.
Tim: Genny…
Genny: I got it Tim. Congratulations.

“So as your wife—” Lucy starts. Tim looks over at her and just hearing the word wife gives him butterflies. Especially Lucy saying it.
“We have to get married first for us to call you that.” Tim says. Lucy gives him a long look.
“That’s not the point.” He says.
“Good save babe.” She says but she’s smiling and he’s not sure she will ever stop. He knows he won’t.
“You will be my wife.” Tim says. Lucy’s mouth twitches up. “We will be married and we will start the rest of our lives together.”
“I love you.” Lucy says and she pulls him down for a kiss. “I love you. I love you.”
And those are the best three damn words he has ever heard.

Grey: So you took my advice. Very nice.
Grey: Congratulations! I am happy for you two. Who knew the hotshot would have ended up with Tim Bradford.
Tim: Funny.
Tim: You were right. The beach IS beautiful at sunset.
Grey: Good job Bradford

“How many people have you told?” Lucy asks. “I just told Celina and she seemed like she already knew.”
Tim ducks his head down. He may or may not have texted his whole contact list. From his mom to Genny to even Nolan to an old army buddy who replied with a bunch of question marks.
“All my contacts.” He says. Lucy laughs a little and Tim can’t help but laugh too. “I’m sorry. I’m just excited.”
“Don’t apologize,” Lucy says. She lifts up his head and smiles at him. “It’s endearing to have my fiancé so excited.”
“Good.” Tim says and he is excited. He’s not into weddings or all the attention being on him. He usually doesn’t like parties. “I am excited.”
Lucy wraps her arms around his neck and they sway a little. He presses his forehead against hers and he thinks this will be just their first dance as husband and wife.
He can’t help but think of their first dance together at Nyla’s wedding. Before everything. Before they were them.
He can’t help but think of how she shined a light into his life and tore down all his walls. How she made him a better person. She made him want to be a better person.
“Tim?” Lucy mutters.
“Hmm.” He says and he stops swaying to look at her. Her face is soft, her eyes are shining. “Yes Luce?”
“Let’s go to bed.” She says. “And when I say—”
“I know what you mean.” He replies. He scoops her up without another word and she squeals loudly.
He knows exactly what she means. And he is going to celebrate her. Celebrate them the entire night.
And he can’t wait to get started.
