Work Text:

Following the certainly eventful investigation, Tim was making his way to the police station. Elliot quickly caught up to him, enthusiastic about the case as always. Tim told him off. “Call me officer,” he said, after Elliot had referred to him by his first name again. Of course, half the reason for this correction were formalities and all that, but the other half... Tim didn't want to dwell on it. It was just that there was something about Elliot, something that had been consuming his mind...

Elliot kept following the officer, unrelenting, and Tim kept dismissing him. And then he said it. “Wouldn't it be nice to just have some respect for once?”

Tim stopped in his tracks. “People respect me,” he replied after a brief moment's silence. Why wouldn't Elliot just leave him alone? And now this?

The other man wasn't convinced. “If you solve this, you would be a hero.” Elliot watched him consider it, and so he continued, “We could work together.”

He laid down what he knew, about the evidence, reassuring him about the photos, seeing Tim warm up to the idea. “What do you say, officer-hero?” He smiled. Elliot couldn’t have known of the way his eyes looked then, but Tim noticed. Wide, and... encouraging, and beautiful, and... Why was he like that? Elliot, but he, Tim, too? It probably meant nothing, anyway. But then again, he'd said that about the murder case as well.

Perhaps that look was what finally convinced him. Tim sighed. Reluctantly, he took Elliot's outreached hand and shook.

After that, Elliot turned to leave, but this time, Tim interrupted him.

“Wait.”

“Yeah?”

Awkwardly, as was how Tim did most things, he reached out a hand. It found its way to Elliot's cheek, and Elliot bridged the gap, leaning into Tim, the case be damned, kissing him. Tim was quite a bit taller, and so he stood on his tiptoes. Meanwhile, what Tim noted was how soft and sweet Elliot's lips were. What was it with both these attractive newcomers...

The kiss was quick, but still it was enough to change something between them. Once it was over, Tim wasn't sure what to say, stumbling over his words. Elliot shushed him before he could overcomplicate anything. That was the last thing either of them needed. “Good luck,” he said, grinning and walking away.
