In our full report for @theathletic, league sources have told us that Commissioner Crowell has been targeting Shane Hollander, Carter Vaughn, J.J. Boiziau and Zane Boodram individually since they were drafted, and collectively after an interview with Sports Illustrated that highlighted their friendship.

It’s particularly heartbreaking as a woman in this male dominated industry, that I would be targeted based on who I consider friends. Montreal misses’ defenseman Boiziau after loss to Admirals

MONTREAL -- — The Montreal Voyageurs lost 3-4 OT to the New York Admirals on home ice on. While the game was an offensive juggernaut, this would be the Voyageurs third lost since the March 4th trade deadline – where they traded forward Hayden Pike and defenseman J.J. Boiziau (to New York) – losing to Vegas Blackjacks and Carolina Breeze. Boiziau’s presence was missed on the ice tonight, as the Voyageurs allowed a season high of 45 shots to net. Boiziau, who’s the time on ice was lower than average due to his assignment to the AHL, still had the highest number of blocked shots on the team. In the presser, Head Coach Hector Theriault was asked how the lack of defensive presence impacted them.
“Look, Boiziau did what he had to did for us during his time in Montreal. That’s the past and now we are just focused on what we do best, [which] is win on the ice.”
When the new captain, Johnathan Meyers, was asked on what the team could do differently with their new adjustments, his answer gave off more of the frustration than the organization would’ve liked.
“Everyone is acting like we can’t lose a couple games. Everything is fine. We are now focused on us, especially since the noise is no longer in the locker room.”
The noise could be attributed to Pike’s and Boiziau’s strong support for former captain and now member of the Ottawa Centaurs – Shane Hollander and the current allegations of the league surveilling queer and POC athletes.
Admiral’s captain Scott Hunter added to the conversation.
“It’s always tough playing against them [Montreal]. So, there was no surprise that this game was equally as challenging. Tonight reaffirmed the importance of us having a strong defense if we want to make a proper playoff push and now that we’ve acquired Boiziau, I believe we are on the right track.”
“Sorry, or not sorry [to Montreal] for losing him though.”
Whether the noise is still there or not, the Voyageurs have important questions to ask themselves in preparations for their next games.

MHL can owe up to 16 million in damages in case for queer and racial discrimination.

NEW YORK --- — As arguments conclude in the case Hollander v. Major League Hockey, it is noted that if the MHL is found guilty on the counts for queer and racial discrimination, that they have to pay the plaintiffs up to $3.2 million in damages. This comes up after months of litigation between two parties. Back in March 2022, Shane Hollander, Zane Boodram (Ottawa Centaurs), J.J. Boiziau and Carter Vaughn (New York Admirals), filed a lawsuit against the league sighting illegal surveillance and oversight based on the players race and sexuality. In December, Assistant General Manager of the Boston Bears, Svetlana Vetrova joined the lawsuit, after internal requests between the Bears and the league to prove that they were not tampering with an employee. This has now become a historical lawsuit, setting new precedent on labor rights within and outside of sports leagues. Major League Hockey Players Association (MLHPA) executive director, Joshua Adams, stated in an official press release that the MLHPA will continue to support their players in this effort as the actions from the league sets a dangerous precedent moving forward.
Sport and labor lawyers have all anticipated that the jury will rule in favor of Hollander, making this the largest amount of money the league has ever had to dish out. One lawyer that we spoke to anonymously fears that this opens the gates for more people – players and citizens – to sue the league and expecting big pay days, something that can have a negative reaction. However, Hollander’s lawyer, Jack Kelber, state that this a positive result, especially for persons that have been pressured by the league to not report or file charges against the league and/or its players.
The final verdict is slated to be presented in February 2023.
