Work Text:
" Leave the window open." She said as the maid tried to veil the curtains down.
Gazing out through the window, on sleepless nights, has become a habit now.
" Madam, the young master said he wouldn't be coming back this time either. It appears he is very busy."
"I know, you may leave now." The maid left.
She has been lying in this bed for a few months now, sick and paralyzed. Every time she begged for her son's visit, he had this very same excuse.
After going out of town for business a couple years ago, he rarely paid her any visit. He kept saying he was busy and that is why he couldn't visit.
But she knew better.
He was just afraid that this sick old woman would be a burden.
Her face looked bright as the soft moonlight, which came flowing through the window, shone on it. But beneath that, she was dull and dark. Crushed by loneliness and misery.
Her house mirrored it.
The luxurious, magnificent gates and the exquisite appearance of the mansion hiding inside the tears of an unwanted old woman.
Her mind wandered into the past. Once she worked hard with her beloved husband, built everything they own from scratch. The house was filled with their love and laughter.
It was that one night- the accident- that caused her husband's sudden death and led her to paralysis.
Now everything has come to this point.
Despite being raised surrounded with love and care, her son had failed to understand the depth and greatness of relationships. Tempted by the riches, he chose to forget his own mother.
Her thoughts came to an end as her eyes followed a leaf falling down from the tree beside her window. It slowly made its way down with the wind.
She was like this leaf.
Once connected to her family, happy, high and mighty. But now everything was taken away. This leaf is now left alone to be trampled underfoot.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
All of a sudden, she felt a chill down her spine. It was like her heart was overflowing with happiness. She didn't understand at first.
But soon enough, she knew.
It was him. Her late husband.
He had come to take her away from pain and sorrow, from this doomed world itself. To somewhere she could be with him.
She was in his arms, the arms that once protected her. She felt his embrace, the warmth of his body melting her away...
