Work Text:
He stalked for an opening, his paws patting against the lush greenery of the UA walkway. His blonde fuzzy hair catching on a few leaves and branches causing him to growl, stupid plants! He just needed to get to his dorm room and figure out how the hell this could’ve happened!
He was about to start thrashing when he heard the soft sound of humming coming from one of the many dorm rooms. His beady red eyes widened as he hopped up on the ledge, his chubby stupid paws gripping for dear life.
Bark! Arf!
You were focused on folding the clothes in your room that had been piling up, groaning as you had to refold the same shirt three times until the sound of your grandmother’s complaints about neat lines quelled in your mind.
Katsuki needed a different technique, he started to growl and bark louder, he needed to get inside! He’d rather die than stay a minute with the damn branches and the stupid leaves!
GRRR…Arf!
You turned your head slowly towards the window to come face to face with a blonde pomeranian hanging from your ledge, barking and growling to be let in. Was this one of Koji’s pets? But didn’t he only have rabbits?
You pouted in confusion, slowly twisting the windows open to let the dog in, “Hey buddy, where did you come from? Are you lost?”
Katsuki barked again, buddy?? Did he look friendly to you? He was thinking about how to get inside from his precarious position when you grabbed him by the armpits, sniffing him up.
HEY HEY! STUPID EXTRA PUT ME DOWN.
He continued to bark and growl at you, trying to slap at your cheeks and kick but you just held him at a distance.
“You smell…fine. So you must’ve not been out for long.” You astutely observed, placing his body against your chest, letting his chubby paws hang off your shoulder as you brushed the leaves and branches off his body, “What happened to you?”
Katsuki tried biting at your hair to show his discomfort, he wasn’t a dog! He was a dog right now but he didn’t take kindly to being treated like one!
PUT ME DOWN GRRR!!
Then you smelled him again! Why were you smelling him so much? It was pissing him off but he was helpless as you practically rocked him like a damn baby.
“You’re so soft and cute! You smell so sweet too!” You cooed, running your hands through his blonde fur. “Can I keep you?”
ABSOLUTELY NOT. HE NEEDED SOMEONE TO HELP HIM OUT NOT MAKE HIM A PET!
He jumped out of your arms and started to run around. None the wiser, you thought he wanted to play, “I’ll catch you! Come on!”
Katsuki let out a deep exhausted growl, jumping on your chair and looking for any kind of writing utensil, he would write with his mouth if he had to! His paws found some paper and he picked up a marker with his mouth starting to write.
You finally stopped playing around, it wasn’t normal for a dog to start…writing, your eyebrows furrowed as you focused on what was going on, “What are you doing puppy?”
Katsuki rolled his eyes but kept writing, doing the best he could to write. The scribbles were chicken scrawl at worst, juvenile at best but it was a testament to his determination.
HELP. ME BAKUGO. STUCK DOG.
He presented his ‘letter’ of distress with a kick of his foot, dropping the marker from his mouth with a lip of drool pooling. Hmph.
You picked up the paper, having to assess the words carefully due to the scrawl. You had to squint a few times, turning the paper around a lot, much to Katsuki’s annoyance. He knew you wore glasses but this was just ridiculous.
“He..lp…Ba..ko..ga…dog.” You looked at the dog, then down at the paper, “You want to play bakugan?” Katsuki had never wanted to murder a person more. He started to pick up the marker in his mouth again, this was pissing him off.
At seeing him try to write again, you just picked him up. Clearly, he was trying to tell you something but this was taking too long! You picked him up again by his armpits, keeping him at a distance as you pouted at him, “I was joking, I guess you don’t want to play Bakugan.”
Katsuki calmed down a bit, at least you connected something with your empty brain. “Just drop the marker, okay?” You had to place him against your chest to tug the marker out of his mouth, when he dropped it, you beamed. “Good job!”
His ears twitched in annoyance, he was not a dog but his stupid tail was wagging happily making your eyes twinkle with delight.
Stupid dog body. I am not some good boy-dog bullshit!
You sniffed him a bit again, he smelled a bit like oven-baked cinnamon rolls, “Look, I don’t know what you need but I’m taking you to Koda okay? His quirk is super cool, you can talk to him.”
Katsuki’s beady eyes widened, of course. Why hadn’t he thought of that sooner? Koda’s quirk was Anivoice. Right now he was an animal and he desperately needed his voice to be heard! He smacked his face with his tiny paw as you put on your slippers and carried him out of your dorm.
You had an inkling of what the pomeranian was trying to say but you couldn’t quite wrap your head around the possibility of someone like Bakugo letting himself get caught by a quirk or machinery that would turn him into a dog.
“You remind me of someone I know…but I don’t think he’d ever let himself be turned into a dog.” Katsuki rolled his eyes sarcastically as he used you as a medium to get from point A to B, tell me about it.
“But you’re exactly how I’d imagine him as a dog, so feisty and fluffy. I hope Koda can help you get back to your owner but…I wish I could keep you.” Katsuki paused his little annoyed puffs to stare at you. Admittedly, he didn’t really know you. He was busy being himself, he didn’t even remember your name.
Stupid dog-loving extra.
You carried him all the way until Koda’s room, the rock-form student opening the door as soon as you knocked.
“Koda-san, I need your help. I found this stray dog, he needs something but I can’t figure out what.”
STRAY DOG?? His soft reaction evaporated into thin air, he had pride. His pride refused to be called a stray and he started to squirm and bark again in your arms.
LOOK HERE EXTRA FIRST YOU SNIFF ME AND NOW YOU’RE CALLING ME A STRAY??
Koda seemed to pale slightly, understanding everything Katsuki was saying, loud and clear. “I see…I think I understand what he wants”
“Really?!” You beamed, placing Katsuki down as we walked into Koda’s dorm. “What is he asking for?”
Koda watched Katsuki move around, he was absolutely sure…it was Katsuki. The usually explosive boy was now a pomeranian. He took a deep breath and crouched down, pushing aside one of his bunnies so that Katsuki wouldn’t jump at it.
“How…did this happen…?” He asked softly, trying to figure out what to do to help.
STUPID SUPPORT SHIT. FUCKING HATSUME.
Katsuki couldn’t remember what happened but the last thing he remembered was dropping his gauntlets off at the Support students’ workshop and being flashed by something extremely bright, the sound of Hatsume’s loud booming laugh in the background. When he woke up, he was in the damn walkway, now about a foot tall and furry all over.
Koda winced, he didn’t like that at all. He looked up at you, trying to find the words to explain what he now knew. “The pomeranian you brought, it’s Bakugo.”
Your eyes widened and your skin got a tad cold, paling at the realization that the cute pomeranian that you were sniffing all day was in fact, your classmate, Bakugo Katsuki.
“Baku…go.” Not Bakugan. Bakugo. “How, how did that happen?” You sounded a bit more panicked now, Katsuki was a bit pleased, where was this reaction a while ago? Now we were moving!
“He says that it was probably Hatsume, from the Support Class?” You took in Koda’s words with a nod, it made sense. Even if it felt a bit like a scifi horror right now. Did you want to think too hard about how it happened? No.
You tilted your head to the side, watching Katsuki give into his dog instincts as he chased a rabbit around. “Bakugo-san?” Katsuki looked up at you, his tail wagging slightly as he walked over to you. Your heart started to beat fast, and you had to take a deep breath as to not faint from the realization that he responded…to his name.
“Oh All Might, it’s really you.” You fell backward onto the tatami mats of Kudo’s dorm, feeling absolutely panicked. “I’ll message--no I’ll call Hatsume now.” You were never close to the pink-haired support student but she worked on your hero suit and that was more than enough for you.
The phone rang twice before Hatsume picked up, her voice filling the air, “Hello, Hatsume speaking!” “DidyouturnBakugointoadogyesorno?” You quickly sputtered out, a bit too fast, you were eating your words from sheer panic. Hatsume seemed to understand regardless, letting out a hearty laugh, “Yep. Why?”
Why?? Katsuki started to bark loudly, trying to give Hatsume a piece of his mind. You pink-haired mad scientist when I catch you!!
“Is that him?! Is he still a dog?” Hatsume’s question made you pause, she’s the one that made him a dog. Why is she asking questions like she’s not sure?! “Yeah, he’s still a dog, what do we do?”
You heard a bit of chalk against a blackboard, Hatsume was recalculating her equation, a statistical model made to calculate what time the effects of her ‘Pet-inator’ would wipe off. “Ah, I see. I forgot to raise it by two…” She was muttering and it made your head hurt. Koda was trying to get Katsuki to eat a piece of carrot which he was doing his best to ignore even if it smelled great.
“Give it about…12 more hours?” The support student said flippantly, like it was just…another normal thing. The blonde pomeranian looked up in annoyance, his mouth filled with carrots. He dropped all of it and began to run in circles and bark loudly.
12 MORE HOURS OF THIS SHIT?!
He jumped up and around your legs, trying to grab the phone. He pushed at your legs, causing you to fall backwards into the mats. He took your phone into his mouth grunting and growling, doing his best to not smash it in his teeth.
HEY ASSHOLE YOU BETTER TURN ME BACK NOW OR I SWEAR TO GOD!!
Katsuki was going into a whole argument but it just sounded like barks and yelps to Hatsume who chuckled, “Oh come on! It’s just 12 hours! Sleep it off! Get someone to take care of you, feed you!” His eye twitched, he already had to swallow enough of his pride to get you to carry him here and now she wanted him to roll over and play PET??
You managed to grab your phone back, carefully avoiding his fingers as you wiped his drool away from your LCD screen, “I’ll just take care of him until then. 12 hours, okay? Thanks”
There wasn’t much else you could do! You picked him up by his armpits and sighed, he didn’t struggle too much this time, deciding to just hang in your arms with a look of annoyance in his beady eyes. “You heard her, 12 hours. Then you’re back to normal. I’ll get you food and whatever you need in the meantime, okay?”
He sneezed at you, causing you to wince and Kudo to let out the quietest of chuckles. You glared at him, the first time he’s ever seen you do it but it doesn’t last for long, your face crumples a bit for a moment instead. “Do you want to stay with someone else? LIke Midoriya-san or…?”
Katsuki shouldn’t feel bad. He should have bit your hand and ran out of the door, but he could also see how much you cared. How you took him in, cared for him…it was annoying how much you put in the effort. He huffed, sneezing again. “I-Is he saying anything?” You asked Koda, who just shook his head. Katsuki barked out his answer, it took a little too long to muster but he didn’t want to leave you.
Tch, don’t look so damn pathetic! Just give me some damn dinner already!
“He says he wants dinner and to stop looking so pathetic.” Koda translated, feeling a bit sheepish to say such harsh words to you. You nodded, hauling Katsuki over your shoulder again, much to his discomfort but he did relax considerably compared to before, his plush soft body bleeding warmth into your shoulder.
“‘kay, thanks for the help Koda.” You gave a small smile and waved to Koda with the pomeranian on your shoulder. Koda sighed, taking one of his rabbits to hold into his hands, just checking to make sure there weren’t any classmates in disguise among them.
You hauled Katsuki on your shoulder all the way down to the dorm kitchen where thankfully for once, no one was there. “What do you want to eat? What’s that thing you like to eat…tofu? Mapo tofu?” You remembered it from a few Class 1-A movie nights, where Katsuki would always make his own food in the corner that smelled slightly of hot peppers and Sichuan peppercorns.
His eyes twinkled softly, he didn’t expect you to know that even if he was screaming it all the time. You scrolled on your phone, could dogs eat tofu? “You can have tofu…but I’m pretty sure you can’t have spicy food.” Katsuki’s mood deflated, what was the point then?
Tch, I don’t care.
He really did, he moped a bit, putting his face against the tiled floor by your feet and poking at your foot with his paw. You chuckled a bit, deciding that the most ‘dog-safe’ meal he could have was probably just, boiled chicken. So you did just that, grabbing a piece of chicken breast from the class refrigerator and boiled it with salt and pepper.
Katsuki’s tail started to wag softly, it smelled pretty good but there was a long way to go until it was done. You sat next to him on the floor, “Can I scratch your ears?” You probably wouldn’t have asked before but knowing it was Katsuki, it felt right to be a bit more mindful.
He thought about it for a while before walking over to you and settling into your lap, his chin on the plush of your thigh and his ears all for rubbing. You beamed and went all out, scratching and scritching while his tailed wagged excitedly behind him. “You’re so fluffy! So cute.” He let out a breath, of course he didn’t take kindly to being called cute but he started to not mind at all. When you hit an area of his ears, his eyes widened and he melted, rolling around in your lap, his tail slapping against the tiles.
Itchy. Yes. Arf! Arf!
He barked out while you scratched, he only stopped panting when you suddenly pulled away from him. He opened his eyes only to see you taking out the chicken from the pot. As much as the chicken smelled amazing, he didn’t want you to stop scratching at his ears. He bumped his head into your shin, causing you to jerk slightly, “Bak--I swear, you’re a dog, not a ram. Don’t headbutt me! I’m making your dinner.” You pushed him slightly with your foot, he growled, slamming his head against your shin harder.
“Ow!” You winced as he practically head-butted his full weight against your legs, you dropped the chicken breast and for a split second the both of you made eye contact.
Katsuki grabbed the freshly cooked chicken breast and made a run for it. Running to the elevator up to your dorm floor. “HEY GET BACK HERE!!” You yelled back at him, he took the elevator!
You huffed and turned to the stairs running up it with as much energy as you could muster, your whole body aching as you got to your floor. Sweat pooled down your face, wet spots against your chest and back. Once you opened the door to your dorm room, Katsuki was already inside, pulling at the chicken breast with his teeth, bits of chicken all over your rug.
You didn’t even have the energy to get mad anymore, you just wagged your finger angrily before lying face first into your bed, exhausted from the events of the day. You were just folding laundry and now, your classmate-turned-dog got one up on you and was eating the whole chicken breast you cooked for him.
Katsuki finished up his meal, he looked up, half-expecting you to ask if you could scratch his ears some more but…you were already asleep. He studied your features, how your soft cheeks seemed to be squished by the pillows and how your hair was sprawled out on the bed. He jumped onto the bed, he wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do. He didn’t want to wake you up but he wanted your attention again.
He licked your cheek, no reaction. He slapped your cheek with his paw, no reaction. He huffed but it couldn’t be helped, you were tired and he respected that. He nudged your cheek with his nose, before settling next to your side, curling into himself, sleeping into the night.
He knew he’d probably go back to forgetting you existed tomorrow but for tonight, he just wanted to be close to you, and if he had a chance, he’d let you play with his ears all night long.
