Chapter Text
Lucifer sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee. He was sorting out the welcome assembly for the new year sevens, him being the new head teacher and all meant that he had to present it. Which he wasn’t looking forward to at all.
He’d worked at this school for multiple years, starting out as just a drama teacher. And then overtime? He climbed the ranks until he was head teacher, which meant he officially owned the school.
He hated most of the students, like any good head teacher did. And of course, he treated the very few students he did like as slaves or princesses/princes. There weren't a lot of pupils that he liked, there was one that he adored with all his heart though, his daughter, Charlie.
She was now year 11! Woah! Top of the school, though to him? She was still his little girl. It was hard to believe she was finally in her last year at school, it felt like just yesterday when she was leaving primary for the last time. Oh his darling little girl.
As he thought about her, she seemed to just appear downstairs, putting her hair up in that signature ponytail like style she always had it in. Jeez, her hair was getting long now but she always refused to cut it. Maybe she was growing it out to be like her mum’s, that was really long. Or at least, it was when he last saw her.
‘Char-char! Morning!’ He called from the kitchen, watching her in the hallway. ‘You excited for your first day back? Ready to blow every teacher away once more?’
‘Gah- Oh, I didn’t know you were awake dad.’ She chuckled softly at the way she had jumped back, she seemed surprised that he was up so early, ‘you’ve been awake for quite some time then, I’m guessing.’
‘Ah, you know me,’ Lucifer sighed, running a hand through his hair. He noted how she had completely ignored his questions only to ask one of her own. Was she nervous? He understood, obliviously, that the first days back were hell. Even for the adults, even the ones who’d been going to the school for years already. It would still be terrible, no matter what.
Charlie gave her dad a disapproving frown, clearly unhappy her dad was staying up late and waking up extremely early. It was a normal Morningstar thing to do, they both did it yet told each other off for it. Talk about hypocrites.
‘We need to leave for school soon. Well, I do. But you usually come with me.’ Lucifer shrugged, glad he changed the topic without Charlie noticing and taking another small sip of coffee. The mug he was drinking out of had a cartoon duck on it, it was his favourite mug.
‘I think I’ll stay here until school starts today, dad.’ She said softly, obviously oblivious to how that seemed to shatter something inside her father. He took his daddy daughter time with her very seriously but his girl was all grown up.
‘Oh- pfft- yeah. That’s fine.’ He laughed it off, trying to ignore how much he was dying inside.
‘Are you alright, dad? You’re pulling that face again.’ She frowned once more, gesturing towards his scrunched up face. It wasn’t surprising, Lucifer was terrible at hiding when he was hurt.
‘Yep… Fine honey.’ He pushed himself up from the table, finishing his coffee and gently placing the mug in the sink, so gently it barely even made a sound. ‘Is… uh… What’s her name?... Va… Vagather? Coming round later?’
The girl he was trying to name was Charlie’s girlfriend. They had been together for quite some time but Lucifer only found out rather recently. He knew her originally from school, she used to be the most unresponsive kid in his year seven drama class. She was more lively after meeting Charlie.
‘It’s Vaggi, how do you keep forgetting this? You remember the names of all my other friends- Like Alastor! You remember Alastor, right? Anyway, yeah I’m pretty sure.’ Charlie chuckled, she always found it funny how Lucifer could never remember Vaggi’s name.
‘I don’t know! It kinda just… poof’s out my head when I need it, like..’ Lucifer snapped his fingers, ‘that! Gone!
Charlie sighed and shook her head, seemingly used to her dad’s childish nature. It was like he never grew up fully, well, he changed slightly after her mum left. But that story was for a different day!

Lucifer stood in front of his fellow colleagues, he looked at some with utter respect and others with deteste. Some of these people were down right weirdos but he couldn’t fire them because of what they did for the school.
He adjusted his suit jacket slightly, staring down the physical education teacher. This was the person he hated the most, end of discussion. This dude had had it out for him since when they were both in school themselves. Ever since Lucifer “stole” his girlfriend, keep in mind they were twelve. It was pathetic, truly. This man knew how to hold a grudge.
‘It’s great to have each and every one of you at this school.’ He nodded, deciding to say what the old boss said every year. ‘A true blessing, honestly-’
‘Didn’t Bernie say that last year… and the year before that? You gotta be original Lu…Honestly, do better.’ The PE teacher rolled his eyes, as if he could do it better, which he probably could.
Bernie was the old head teacher, he could be a proper sweetheart but most of the time? Right asshole. The kids called him Satan because of his anger and the amount of times he on called and gave detentions to students even if they did nothing wrong. He was very salty when Lucifer took his job as well, kind of hilarious.
‘It’s inspirational, y’know, it’s traditional.’ Was Lucifer just trying to come up with a cover for being lazy? Yes. Was it working? Probably not.
‘Mhm, sure.’ The PE teacher purred, leaning back in his seat and reaching into his bag, pulling out a packet of rib flavoured crisps. It was slightly amusing how the PE teacher, physical education if you will, only ever sat around and ate shit all day, yet yelled at the students to work harder and go faster. Despite not doing any of that himself.
‘Be quiet Adam.’ Lucifer sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance. Man, this day was going to be terrible.

Lucifer sat at his desk. He was meant to be catching up on overdue paperwork that he had ignored during the period everyone had off. But he found himself feeling a bit worried about the upcoming assembly he was presenting to the newbies. God he hated speaking to large groups of people in general, but too around a hundred people that had never met him? That was a different kind of horrifying.
His mind wandered over to what Charlie had said earlier. “You know Alastor, don’t you?”. How could he ever forget that idiot?
Charlie talked about that man so often, only ever saying positive things, saying stuff about how kind he was, how smiley he was, all that shit. He sounded like a great lad, right? That’s what he thought, oh, oh no, how wrong he was.
The kid was weird as hell, always smiling, saying passive aggressive comments and always watching him. Apparently, he used to go to Charlie’s primary school before he left abruptly, just disappeared one day and now he’s back for year 11.
Charlie had stayed at his place for most of the five weeks they had off. It pissed him off because why the fuck was she choosing that sicko over him? A guy she barely knows or her dad?! At least he was taking care of Charlie when she was with him.
He glanced at the clock. It was nearly time for the bell to ring which would symbolise period two. That meant it was time to start heading towards the main hall, where the assembly would take place. He could feel the anxiety building up as he collected his laptop, his mug and his blazer.
As he walked through the halls of a school he had come to hate, the loud annoying sound that always played to signal the end of lesson rang throughout the whole school for a solid ten seconds. He let out a startled gasp, jumping back slightly and having to do some weird dance like manoeuvre to stop his coffee spilling everywhere. He’d been at this school for ages and he still got scared at the bell? That was sort of pathetic.
When he got to the room where the assembly was happening, he started setting up the few things he had bought with him. The laptop was on the massive speaker, not yet connected though. He placed the coffee on one of the canteen tables beside him as they used the main hall for a seating area at lunch and break as well and the tables were often folded up at the front while one and two were still flat, unfolded.
A teacher stood at the assembly door with a line of students behind them. It took a moment for him to realise the teacher was the oldest teacher at the school, Zestial and he was waiting for permission to enter. Zestial teaches English Literature, not a single person’s favourite teacher but never someone's least.
He nodded at Zestial and turned away, putting on his blazer and adjusting it so it looked professional. He watched as dozens of nervous short, though still taller than Lucifer, people piled into the room. They took seats on the bleachers and all eyes were on him as the nervous chatter died down.
He tried to find some pupils that looked like other students that he knew, siblings or cousins. He saw two girls who looked slightly similar to one of the school prefects, Carmilla Carmine, he assumed they were her little sisters.
Lucifer smiled at everyone, clearing his throat and ignoring his self doubt. ‘Hello and welcome to Hazbin High! It is lovely to be meeting you all today and I hope you enjoy your next five years here! Now, I’d like to start this assembly off with a video, if you’ll just turn your eyes to the screen above me-’
The laptop wasn’t connected.
There was an awkward silence for around one minute and Lucifer made no move to sort out the obvious problem.
Man, this was going to be a long day.
