Chapter 1: we weep at...

Chapter Text

For the first time in years, a woman gasps for air on an island in the West Blue. She is the only human being on that island, also the first in years.

Neither of those facts should be true.

Because this woman remembers, more clearly than anything else, a sword sliding into her ribs. Breaking them. Bleeding through until she eventually bled out. Bleeding out while her mouth tasted like rot.

An accident but also not. For she knew what had passed into her veins the minute it touched her tongue.

Human Human Fruit, Model: Zaza.

The woman had been planning to tell...someone. But then, sword in the ribs. Screaming. Pain. She had been dying, and to avoid that to do something else-

She had retreated into dissociating from the pain, so she could do what needed to be done. But that had not been her salvation. Not really. Not when doing so had ended up stealing her entire body in the process. Breaking it down into nothing. Almost nothing.

And for years, she had been nothing more than rain. Now, through chance it seems, she is flesh once more.

But not for long. Already, the woman can feel things inside of her breaking apart. All bodies have water in them, but her body is water. Is rain, already aching to return to the clouds. She needs something to anchor, to make her body stay, before she loses herself to the rain again. What is there to stay for?

Her fingers claw at the earth, at the ground already becoming mud under her touch. Water dripping from her hands, no, her hands dripping into water.

Focus. Focus. What is real, what is around her-

Around her are ruins. Ruins made into being by-

Not time. That hasn’t taken these buildings, left the ruins of what appeared to be human corpses. No. What came for those who lived here was much more violent than that. Who led them here to-

“Oh.” Her voice doesn’t come out raspy, like it should after the lack of disuse. No, it comes out tap tap tapping, sound going up and down, like the rain she has been so long. “This was my fault.”

This truth beats next to her irregular heart. Truths that are needed to keep said heart beating, as one whole.

This is what the woman knows, what she is, outside of a woman made of rain.

  • This is God Valley and her home and God Valley is dead.
  • She has two children. Twin boys.
  • The father of her children used her to destroy God Valley.
  • To make up for that, she has to kill him.
  • Her name was Magnolia.

And that. Will have to be enough.

To drive the rain away.
