"So, this is what you do when you're out in the middle of nowhere with your bike?" Frank stretched out his hand above him and, as Robby could tell, tried to measure star distances with it the way Robby had taught him—with lackluster interest.
Robby sighed. "Well, one of the things." He found Sagittarius and was about to tell Frank how to see it when Frank interrupted.
"What's another?"
Robby didn't answer. Why were they even here if not to enjoy that it was dark out here and quiet without any distractions. He just wanted to sit here together for a bit and look up at the sky and—
"Oh, wow, is it masturbating. Is that the other thing."
Robby wiped a hand over his face. "I'm going to strangle you."
Frank sounded very self-satisfied when he answered, "You can't. If you strangle me, you'll have to spend all night digging a hole instead of sitting here, trying to find the big arugula in the sky."
"It's not the big arugula."
Frank heaved out a groan. "I'm sorry if the names mean nothing to me. There was a vagina that you tried to sell me as a shield." Frank tipped his head against Robby's shoulder. "Which one's the cat's asshole again?"
Robby was close to breaking. "It's a lion cub."
Frank huffed out a breath. "But its biggest star is still its asshole."
Robby couldn't hold it in anymore. He broke out into laughter and pulled Frank on top of him, rolling him over so he wouldn't be able to see the stars anymore. Frank had had enough stars tonight. "You're a big asshole, too," he murmured and dug his fingertips into Frank's side.
That got him a wiggle and a hiss.
With a heavy, put-upon sigh, Robby reached up and cupped Frank's head to half cover his eyes. "I love you too much to strangle you. That's the only reason."
Frank relaxed against him. "I'm sorry about the stars. It's just not my thing."
"Yet," Robby said. He was patient. He knew it wouldn't take much to get Frank interested in the stars. Maybe a visit to an observatory would do it.
It wasn't about forcing Frank to share his hobby; but Robby knew his lover. He'd thought the first time would go better, but today was just not the right night to catch Frank's interest. "I know you. I just need a hook."
Frank nuzzled his cheekbone into Robby's chest. "I'm already hooked. Line and sinker. Like the pisces."
They stayed there a while longer until Robby got tired of trying to make out formations. Frank seemed to have fallen asleep on him. Or so he thought, right until Frank shifted and dug his chin into Robby's chest. He rubbed his hand over Robby's shoulder, too, to make sure he really had Robby's attention. "Hey, you."
Robby tipped his chin down and stroked a hand over Frank's head. "What now?"
"Can we try that other activity now?"
It took a moment for Robby to get there, having forgotten that part of their earlier conversation. When he realized what Frank meant, he huffed. Bringing both arms around Frank's torso and interlacing his fingers behind Frank's back, holding him there, tight and secure and close. "Yeah, sure. Why not."
"Well, don't sound so enthusiastic about it, lion cub." Frank squirmed to get Robby to loosen his hold. Frank's breath puffed against his neck and he laughed into his ear, which made Robby want to keep Frank there even more. He loved Frank's laugh. He appreciated it more these days; that he got to hear it in all kinds of different forms and under all kinds of different circumstances.
"I've got you right where I want you," Robby rumbled and nosed into Frank's hair.
Still, he let go a moment later, holding loosely onto Frank's sides as his lover pushed himself up on his arms. He stopped when he was on all fours over Robby and looked down at him. "Thank you. This is a lovely evening."
"It is." Robby confirmed as he reached up to run his thumb over Frank's cheek.
Their relationship was good now, letting each other in, allowing themselves to be seen. Robby felt laid bare under Frank's loving gaze and he wasn't scared at all.
