Work Text:
Bennett knows his luck is poor and while he does his best to not let it get him down sometimes it's hard not to. He stares at the beads in the dusty handkerchief resting on the palm of his hand. The bracelet he had been gifted just days ago had snapped during a commission. It wasn't even a stressful one though being chased by angry ducks until the sky begun to turn orange had been.
Now he could probably restring the bracelet though some of the metal beads are missing lost to a few birds who admired the shine but those weren't the problem. The problem was the sundial component that had wedged between stone and when he pried it out it had bent until the point snapped ruining it.
It's hard not to want to cry, his eyes misting over. Was it truly so hard to not want to have just one day where his luck didn't ruin things for him? Bennett rubs at his eyes and winces at the sting of dirt making it worse.
He drops the handkerchief but before he can catch it it lands in familiar warm hands. Bennett blinks trying to see them clearly but all he can really see is their blurry face rambling about the days events and apologizing.
He stops as he watches all the beads that had been lost rise to their hands before melting together alongside the sundial. He's in awe as the molten metal shifts and molds into a an exact match of the bracelet he had thought lost although the leather cord that bound them together is replaced by metal linking chain.
It cools gradually in their hands and when it's safe enough they close it comfortably around his right wrist. Bennett sits there stunned for a few moments before he bursts into tears startling them. They're a flustered as he leaps from the ground and clings to them his tears fizzling away before they make contact with their skin.
Maybe he doesn't need to worry too much about his luck with them as they walk him back to the city the evening sun setting behind them.
