One afternoon they were cuddling together on their couche while watching some random Tv series. During one of the adds a lot of chocolate muffins began to fall in the background while chocolates filled the rest of the empty space.
"Mm, honey do we have the ingredients for muffins at home? I'm craving something sweet..", Avery spoke as he looked up at Derek. He could see the wheels turning inside other's head. "Aren't I sweet enough for you?", he replied in a playful voice while Avery rolled his eyes not being able to resist a smile. "You're going to give me cavities soon enough.", he then softly pressed a kiss against others lips and snuggled in closer.
"Oh, yeah, we do have enough ingredients for chocolate ones if you're up to it?", Avery didn't have to be told twice and was already up on his feet, waiting for Derek to join him.
They made their way to the kitchen and they started to take out the needed ingredients. Avery took out the two bowls, tray for the muffin, measuring cups and other needed stuff while Derek took the ingredients; soy milk, apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, canola oil, vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
With everything being ready, Derek starts mixing in the dry ingredients while Avery just stands there not being sure what to do.
"Why aren't you doing anything? You need help?", he asks and turns to the other, still adding in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. "Uh.. yeah lol, I don't know the recipe. You never told me what we're making.", it took a few seconds for gears to turn inside Derek's head before realising that Avery just couldn't spawn the measures and everything right into his mind.
"Oh yeah, sorry Aves. I'll just tell you what to do, okay? If you don't hear something or need help just tell me.", Avery nods and now the show begins.
"Take the soy milk and the one cup measurement.", so Avery does. "Then add the milk only once before you take apple cider vinegar and the 1 tea spoon.", Avery adds the cup of soy milk and after the one tea spoon of apple cider vinegar and adds it in.
Derek added one third cup of cocoa powder while telling Avery to stir his mix and leave it for few minutes. "After stirring it, you can go turn the oven to 350F° so it will heat up when we're done.", the oven gets turned on and set to 350F.
3/4 tea spoons of of baking soda, 1/2 tea spoons of baking powder and finally 1/4 tea spoons of salt were added to the dry mix before getting stirred all together.
"Can I finish the liquid mix now Der?", he gets a small nod of approval before the recipe began to be told again.
"Take 1/4 cup measurement and the granulated sugar.", he takes the 1/3 though Derek stops him before he acidentally makes a mess. "At least it would've been a sweet mess!", Avery speaks trough giggles as he adds 3/4 cups of sugar—just how Derek told him so. "You're already a sweet mess Aves, we don't need more.", he kisses Avery on his cheek making him get slightly flustered.
"Now add 1/3 of canola oil and after that, you can add the last ingredient—1 1/2 tea spoons of vanilla extract."
Every ingredient has been added and now—now can the mixes be mixed together.
Derek takes the dry mix and slowly stars adding it to the liquid mix while Avery stirs it. It didn't take long for oven to Beep and inform them it's done heating up.
With mix being done, they just needed to prepeare the cupcake liners, but there was something important Derek realised they needed to do. He took the stirrer out of the bowl and called out for Avery.
"Taste test?", he handed it to Avery as his smile widened. "Absolutely."
He took the stirrer and ate the chocolate mix from it while Derek put the cupcake liners inside the tray and began adding the mix too.
"It's absolute ten out of ten."
"Of course it is."
Every bit of mix was used and now they needed to put the tray inside the oven, Derek put it inside and Avery closed the oven. The timer was set to 20 minutes and they decided to clean the mess they made in the kitchen.
When the last item was cleaned, the timer set off. Muffins were ready.
They took the tray out and first thing that happen was Avery trying to grab the Nether hot muffins and Derek having to stop him so he doesn't get first degree burns.
"Be patient."
"But they look so tasty."
"They won't be if you burn your whole mouth before you can taste them."
Avery wanted to argue back, but there was no response to throw in defence.
"Damn it...", he murmured beneath his breath.
They decided to take out some plates and napkins while letting the muffins cool down, which thankfully didn't take long.
Once they were served, they sat at their couch and started eating them.
"Ouhf myh Gof. Thef afe sho thafthy.", he didn't even swallow the first bite before striking for another.
"Yeah, well don't speak while eating, you're going to choke.", Derek replied and folded the cupcake liner that once belonged to a muffin.
"Bofing, I canf nof eafh fhe—", yeah well whatever he wanted to say was interrupted by he choking sounds and coughing.
Derek didn't say anything rather let Avery cough his idiot self out and grabbed his phone to search something up.
When he finally stopped coughing, he looked at Derek who still paid no attention to him.
"You were just going to let me choke?", he playfully asked.
Derek just looked at him and then a song started playing.
*You know I hate to say it, but "I told you so"
You know I hate to say, but I told you sooo*
He paused the song, still looking at the Avery who's expression could not be explained.
"Oh my God.", he dragged a hand over his face before looking back at Derek.
"Love you darling~.", Derek said with a very noticeable grin on his face, making Avery sigh. Though he couldn't help but to reply, "Love you too D3ar."
The night finished off with them being cuddled up on the couch and sweet smell of muffins filling their house.
