Chapter Text
Finally, the trip we had been so excited for was happening. Everyone on the bus was in a great mood, singing songs and some even dancing. Almost everyone. Everyone but Bakugou.
You seriously don’t understand what the deal is with this guy. He wants to appear nonchalant, but is the loudest, most aggressive ass you’ll ever come across.
You remember when you first joined 1-A, all pumped to befriend everyone in the class. All your classmates were so welcoming, but he ruthlessly dismissed you whenever you tried to get to know him. If you didn’t know any better, you might’ve thought he was ignoring me on purpose, but apparently, he does that to everyone. Almost everyone. Kirishima being the only exception.
Right before we boarded the bus, that jerk bumped into you, and instead of apologising, he asked you to ‘move’. Even thinking back to it makes your blood boil, so you’re just not gonna think. To hell with him. you don’t care if you’re being petty, but you do hold a grudge. A small one. You’re not proud of it. People like him just piss you off so bad, and you’d rather jump into a cold lake with your clothes on than talk to them.
It has been a rough and chaotic couple of days, and you didn’t get to sleep a lot because you were packing, so now you’d love nothing more than to close your eyes and tune out their singing. The bus still hasn’t started moving. You wonder what we’re waiting for. Mid-thought, the door hisses open and Aizawa steps in. Yeah, right, how can we leave without our homeroom teacher? He starts going on about the fact that we’re not the only class going on this trip, so we must be on our best behaviour to set an example for junior students.
Four excruciatingly long hours later, the bus comes to a stop. As excited as you were, you genuinely just felt sick crammed between everyone, and needed air, so this was a welcome opportunity. You wasted no time getting away, and when your friends try to whisk you away to get some food, you humbly decline their offer by lying that you gotta go wee.
You take in your surroundings; why did they think it was a good idea to stop in the middle of nowhere. Aside from the tiny stop with a corner shop, there was nothing else in sight, but a tiny road surrounded by dense trees leading into a forest. In your peripheral vision, you could see other buses stopping as well and students rushing out. You knew you had to move fast if you needed a moment of silence.
After spending an hour away from them to breathe, you decided it’s time you joined the group. If you’re being honest, you usually prefer being around my friends. They ground you, but today is just weird, and you needed a little time after that hell of a week.
You made your way back, but as soon as you got there, all the life drained out of your face. Not a single person in sight. No bus, no Aizawa, no friends, nothing. You blinked hard and hoped you were imagining this, and that somebody would pop out anytime now and say haha you’ve been pranked. You paced around, and slowly the panic started settling in. What the fuck just happened? Where did they all go? Why would they just leave without you?
A sudden presence behind me pulled you out of the spiral. You turned around to see Bakugou holding a cup of coffee.
“The hell,” he says. No question. Just a statement.
Then, without a second glance, he walked past you. Not towards you, past you, like you were some sort of furniture. He stood at the edge of the road, looking both ways as if a pumpkin carriage might materialise out of nowhere and offer to give us two idiots a ride.
“You were supposed to be on the bus,” You try to say something.
“So were you,” he immediately responds.
“They left without us.”
“No shit,” he deadpans. You just roll your eyes at this point.
You leave him to do whatever he thinks he is doing and walk towards the shop. Maybe the guy who works there would know something, but to your surprise, when you got there, the shop was locked with a huge ‘CLOSED’ sign hanging on the door. “Just my luck,” You exhale. You see a notice pinned right next to it that read: ‘Dear customers, the shop’s closing down early due to the recent weather warnings. Stay safe out there.’
You resisted the urge to smack yourself. You remembered there being a sudden commotion, but you figured it was a bunch of excited juniors. Now you realised, they all must be preparing to leave early because of the upcoming storm.
Bakugou comes up behind you and follows your gaze to the notice. You didn’t think it was physically possible for him to look more annoyed, but he did. “We’re fucked,” he says.
“No shit,” You clap back this time.
He gives you a short ‘fuck-off’ look and then starts walking away. You ran after him, “Wait, what are you doing?”
“Walking...”
“Where?”
“Somewhere”
“Are you stupid?”
He stops and turns to look at me, “The fuck you mean by that?”
You tried to stay calm and composed, and started gesticulating, “Lemme explain. Forest on one side, a road that leads to God knows where on the other. A storm’s coming. We have limited options and going either way isn’t one of them.”
“So, do nothing about it?” he looks at you as if you’d gone insane.
“If you wanna walk in this weather, be my guest. I’m not risking it. Here, at least, we’ve got a cover and a slight chance that a bus shows up at some point.”
“You can’t be just thinking of staying here like some damsel in distress”
“Joke's on you, Bakugou, I am.”
He scoffs, but you decide to ignore him and walk towards the awning.
Soon, Bakugou realised that from here, it’s just going to get worse, so he begrudgingly decides to sit beside you on that tiny bench. He shifts uncomfortably, and you can feel his wet sleeve and pants sticking to you.
“So…” you begin.
“What?” he responds.
“What do we do? Wait it out?”
“Wasn’t that your plan?” he asks sarcastically.
“The plan was not to die out in those woods. You’re welcome”
“Stop talking already,” he rolls his eyes.
This guy makes the forest look so tempting right now. You don’t know how you’ll survive this.
The rain was coming down hard now, drumming against the awning in a rhythm that felt almost aggressive. You pressed yourself against the shop wall, but the awning was too narrow, and Bakugou was taking most of it with his refusal to stand still.
“Move,” he said.
“I’m against the wall.”
“You’re in my space.”
“There’s no your space. It’s a public awning.”
He shifted, which somehow made him take up even more room. The rain got heavier. The shifted, blowing mist under the awning. You shivered.
“Cold?” he asked. Not concerned. Mocking.
“You know,” You said, “in a normal situation, you’d offer me your jacket.”
“This isn’t a normal situation.”
“No, but you’re taking up all the space, while I’m half out and slowly but surely freezing to death.”
“Not my problem,” he says, looking away.
“Wow. Chivalry really is dead,” You scoff.
“Chivalry is stupid.” He looked back at you. “And you’re not my date. I’m not obligated to be uncomfortable because you didn’t check the weather.”
“First of all, I didn’t know there was weather to check. Second of all, who hurt you?”
“Not my problem,” he said again, but his hands had left his pocket.
A minute passed and the winds started blowing harder. Your right side was completely soaked. You were going to be sick if this continues.
“Fine,” he said suddenly, sharp and angry, like you were forcing him to do something heinous.
“Fine what?”
He was already shrugging off his blazer and holding it out like it was soiled.
“Take it before I change my mind.”
“Why?” you asked.
“Because your teeth are chattering and it’s bugging me so take the damn jacket before it drives me crazy.” He nudged it towards you again.
You took it. It was heavy, lined with wool and smelled of slightly burnt caramel popcorn. You pulled it on. Immediately, impossibly warm.
“Happy?” he asked, turning back to the rain. He was in his black t-shirt now, arms crossed, looking even more irritated than before.
“Ecstatic,” You replied.
“Don’t get used to it.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
