Seven years after Killua and Gon went their separate ways they decided to meet up again but it didn't exactly as they expected...

I wrote this in my notes app months ago and decided to post it.

Work Text:

• Seven years after they separated •

A soft breeze ruffled Killua’s white hair that shone silver under the stars. It was a light kind of wind that carried the scent of the nearby forest. The way the forest smelled always reminded him of Gon…

He and Gon separated 7 years ago and now he was waiting for that very person. The leucistic boy looked down at the bustling city below, his legs dangling loosely off the edge of the roof.

He wanted to see Gon, he really did. But how different would he be? Would Gon still be the same kid he befriended and fell in love with when they were 12? As excited as he was, he was also scared… terrified even.

Killua’s thoughts were interrupted by a cheery sounding voice, it was Gon. He turned around to face the boy. Gon was a lot taller than he used to be and his voice was deeper yet he seemed to not have changed very much.

“Killua!”

Gon had a huge grin on his face as he approached the boy on the roof’s edge. Killua gave a small smile and waved a hand in the air closer to his chest.

“Hey, Gon..!”

Killua’s voice hadn’t changed at all, it was still the raspy voice of a teenager despite him now being 19. Gon moved to sit next to Killua indian style.

“So, Killua… It’s been a while, how have you been?”

Gon started the conversation so casually as if it had only been a week rather than 7 years. Killua blinked at the question, it was so to-the-point. Gon really hadn’t changed.

“Man, you haven't changed a bit.."

He passed to huff out a small laugh before answering Gon's question.

"It has been… An eventful couple of years.”

Killua didn’t mean to be dry, he just didn’t want to dump everything on Gon all at once. He glanced at Gon sideways, examining his facial expressions closely. He was just smiling, looking down at the city below as he shifted his position so his legs were dangling off the edge next to Killua's.

“… What about you?”

Killua prompted, hoping Gon had a lot to say. He wanted to hear how Gon’s life had played out, if he’d ever relearned nen, new relationships, life as a hunter.

“It’s been great!”

Gon chirped positively, thinking before speaking again,

“I actually managed to relearn nen! It’s not as powerful as it would have been but it’s progress nonetheless!”

Gon’s positivity was so overwhelming, yet comforting. Killua’s own cheeks started to hurt just by watching Gon smile. He hummed in acknowledgment, it could barely be heard above the sound of traffic on the street at the foot of the building.

“That’s good.”

Killua didn’t have much to say, but inserted another question to keep the conversation going.

“What has it been like… Moving back to Whale Island and all?”

Gon didn’t reply immediately, it seemed like it took a moment for the green haired boy to register the question.

“Well, no different than when you had seen it. A few shops closed down and new ones opened up. Oh! And I started talking to this girl on the island, her name is — and she’s really nice.”

Killua tensed at the mention of someone else, it made his heart ache deep in his chest as he listened. He couldn’t bring himself to say anything. As much as he hated to admit it, he was jealous. What if Gon fell in love with her?

“How were your adventures with Alluka?”

Gon’s question snapped Killua out of his mini-spiral. He looked over at Gon with a weak but genuine smile.

“After a while of traveling around we felt that we had seen everything so… We went back home. I realize now that the reason we gave up early is because it just wasn’t the same without you there.”

It was an honest confession, a hint towards his true feelings. Killua looked back down between his legs at the bustling street. Night life here was quite loud, almost like York New City.

“And, I decided that I would take over the family business. I didn’t like the idea but I didn’t know what else to do.”

He didn’t mention the new status he held as one of the most highly ranked assassins in the world, right above his father and grandfather.

“How did that go?”

Gon pushed for more, was he actually interested? No, surely he was just trying to keep conversation.

“Well, I finished my training and accepted the position as the heir to my family. Illumi was quite pleased.”

Killua paused, he wasn’t sure how in depth he should go about the training he endured and what it took to overcome his father’s position. He wasn’t sure if he should mention the need to continue the family name, as much as he hated the idea of marrying some random girl his parents chose. In all honesty, he wanted Gon.

“I see. That’s… nice?”

Gon seemed stumped, like smoke was about to start fuming out of his ears. Killua quickly started a different conversation.

“What are you thinking about, Gon?”

The silence that fell between them grew loud. He was beginning to wonder if Gon had even heard his question. Then the boy spoke, his voice laced with unshed tears.

“I missed you so much, Killua…”

Killua blinked and his body tensed as he was overcome by Gon’s embrace. He hardly registered that Gon had hugged him until his own arms wrapped around Gon’s back.

“Gon… I missed you too.”

Killua’s face glowed as a light, warm blush poured into his cheeks. He closed his eyes and leaned further into the hug, tucking his face into the crook of Gon’s neck.

He breathed in Gon’s scent, savoring the feeling of being held. He didn’t want it to end, he wanted to stay like this forever. He felt Gon’s grip loosen but he subconsciously held onto Gon tighter.

“Killua..?”

Gon sounded concerned but he didn’t respond, he simply held on, refusing to let the feeling end early.

“Gon…”

Killua’s fingers curled around the fabric of Gon’s shirt, afraid that if he let go Gon would simply disappear. Gon didn’t resist, instead he just sat still, waiting for Killua to release him.

Gon’s chest was filled with a warmth he couldn’t quite name, a melting feeling overcoming his senses as Killua pulled him closer as if trying to merge their very souls.

“Killua… Are you okay..?”

The question hit Killua like a physical blow to his gut. He released Gon and gazed deeply into the warm caramel galaxies of Gon’s eyes. He gave a soft smile, a single tear paving a dark streak down his cheek.

Gon’s heart ached at the sight of the tear, though the smile made him feel like everything was going to be okay. If Gon said he didn’t miss Killua’s face, he would be a liar.

Killua couldn’t look away from Gon’s face, why not though? He wanted to return his gaze to the city below but Gon was far more beautiful than anything else he could see.

“Gon…”

Gon hummed in acknowledgment, tilting his head slightly. He subconsciously leaned a little close to Killua, partially with interest. Killua scooted a little closer so their thighs were connected. He lifted his head to some degree just to see Gon’s face better through his fringe.

Gon couldn’t help but giggle, this was his best friend seemingly lost in his own mind yet he was too focused on something else…

Killua’s gaze lowered to Gon’s lips before he could stop himself. He blinked and looked away, a deep blush spilling over his cheeks. Gon didn’t look away though, instead he placed a gentle hand on Killua’s face forcing them to make eye contact again.

Killua smiled, usually he would make some kind of remark to ease the flustered state he was in but now… He couldn’t bring himself to break the moment. Gon’s hand fell to Killua’s thigh, he didn’t even realize it but Killua did.

Killua’s body tensed up yet he still refused to move away. He let out a shaky sigh and let his gaze drop to the lack of space between them and decided to lean into it. He placed one hand over Gon’s on his thigh and his eyes flickered to their hands then back at how close they were.

“Gon I-“

He started, he couldn’t find the words to express himself.

“I… love you. As more than what you think. A-And I have for a very long time. Longer than I can remember…”

Gon stared blankly at the top of Killua’s head before a childishly large grin spread over his face. A slight laugh bubbled up in his throat as he moved his hand to intertwine their fingers.

“Killua… I love you too..”

Killua shook his head and looked back up at Gon, his eyes glazed over in unshed tears.

“No, I mean- I love as in like… romantically. Gon. I want to be your boyfriend. I love you.”

Gon chuckled again, this time it was a lighter, more forgiving sound that almost got blown away in the wind. he moved his other hand up to Killua’s face, using his thumb to wipe a tear that dared to fall.

“Killua. I love you too.”

Killua just stared, waiting for the realization to hit him and when he it did it hit hard. Killua smiled and pressed himself more against Gon now so that way their chests were together. Gon loved Killua, actually loved him. It was the one thing in life he'd always wanted to hear, since the moment they met back during the Hunter Exam all those years ago.

Gon just looked at Killua and before he even knew what he was doing his lips were on Killua’s. It was a slow kiss that felt more like a question but it was also a warm feeling that made his heart swell and his stomach tighten in the best way possible. It felt like he was floating.

Killua immediately kissed back, more eager than Gon’s initial press. they melted into each other, pouring every ounce of the love they held in during their misspent youth. at was a long, tender kiss that said everything it needed to.

After another few seconds that felt like hours they pulled apart. They didn’t move far, instead they pressed their foreheads together and gazed deep into each other’s soul. The moonlight seemed to shine a single beam of silvery white light over the both of them like a spotlight in a theater. They loved each other and their connection was undoubtedly secure. It was perfect. in unison their thoughts seemed to echo as one, “He’s perfect.”
