Work Text:
When Scott had been told that there was someone new joining their team, he hadn't thought that it might be one of the sophomores that was already a student at his school. Much less the newbie who had barely been a Watcher for a week.
It made sense though, after all, the newbie’s parents didn't know their kid was one of them, although they would eventually find out after the kid passed the base exam. Or, more likely given his seeming lack of physical strenght, failed it and got hurt as severely as they had been when they failed it the first and only time that happened.
But alas, here they were, sitting around the lunch table with the newbie glaring at Troy, who, funnily enough, was not only the only one in the team who had willingly become a watcher, but also the one who had apparently gotten the newbie into The Watchers.
If it wasn't because he knew it would endanger the mission, and by extension, Grian and the whole team, he would have absolutely scolded him about the violation of the newbie's freedom, even though he knew he’d have done the same a few years ago before he started dating Grian and realized how messed up it was for this life to be thrust upon him and his team. Whether Troy was included or not in there was up to debate given how he had chosen to become one of them rather than being forced to.
But regardless, they could see how anxious Kai was, which was very much understandable, given the circumstances.
“Are you okay?” He softly whispered to the newbie, who didn't respond but looked like he was on the edge of crying as he started to curl up on himself.
Pearl, who was sitting on the newbie's other side, whispered something to him, causing him to relax a bit.
Seeing as how Pearl and the newbie were engaging in silent conversation, he started to talk with Grian, leaving Troy forced to sit there with his thoughts.
