Chapter Text
It was around seven at night, Jason Todd and Roy Harper were in their living room.
Jason, is in his Red Hood gear, helmet currently off, and Roy is also in his gear, there at their apartment waiting for the babysitter-who is also a vigilante-, when Roy's phone buzzed.
Jason is holding Lian in one hand, and he reached over and took Roy's phone with his free hand.
Roy doesn't complain, he didn't even look bothered, and he didn't even glance back, Jason tends to use his phone a lot, and Roy has zero shit to hide, so he doesn't mind, why should he.
Jason unlocks Roy's phone with ease and glances at a few messages before muttering. "Shit."
Roy looks at his husband, with a bit of confusion plastered on his face, about what's happening. "What?" Roy asked.
Jason looks at Roy with pure exhaustion and unsureness of what to do, in his eyes. "The sitter canceled. Something about a family emergency, maybe a car crash."
Roy, processing what Jason just said, yells, "A WHAT?"
Jason rolls his eyes. He was being sarcastic, kinda. He doesn't know the emergency, so it could be a car crash, but for all Jason knows, it's a random emergency.
"I was joking... probably," Jason mutters, looking at Roy's phone.
Roy lets out a breath, then looks at Lian, then at the clock, and says, "Well, shit. We have to leave soon as well. We could leave her with one of your brothers, darling."
Roy suggested it, then he realizes Jason said "probably" and answered, his tone slightly concerned and still processing "Wait, what?".
Jason, ignoring the second part of Roy's sentence, said with no hesitation, zero hesitation, "No. Nope. No, no, no. Do you know my siblings? No, no, no. I'd rather die again than let them babysit our daughter. No, no. No thanks."
Roy sighs. Jason tends to be difficult a few times. Well, a few is generous; it's more like a lot of times. Okay, more like every day, 100 times, possibly more.
Jason trusts practically no one from his family to babysit Lian. The only person he would let babysit is Cass. She's probably the best choice. He would have let Alfred, but he's old, so his vision isn't that good, and it would be hard, and its also Alfred one day off, Alfred beraly gets a break from the batfam, he deserves this one day,
Roy, rubbing his forehead with two fingers, unsure what exactly to do with Lian since Jason would say no to anyone babysitting, muttered, "You're not giving me much to work with, princess," looking directly into Jason's eyes, his hands going down from his forehead and crossing over his chest.
Jason grins, even though it's not visible because of the helmet. The helmet hides it, but he grins and says, "Part of the job, sweetheart."
Lian understands zero stuff, but just feeling Jason is happy ends in her making a happy little "BAH" noise. Roy looks at her, smiles, then looks at Jason. There was a beat of silence.
Jason says, "Okay... what if we bring her with us?"
Roy isn't surprised that Jason suggested that, but the answer is, and always will be, "No."
Jason, with no hesitation, answers back with, "We got no other option. She's coming with us."
Roy, immediately getting protective of their eight-month-old, already has a full-on speech ready. He opens his mouth and starts by saying, "Jason Todd, I swear to—"
He gets cut off by Jason shushing him.
"Shushhh."
While Jason was putting Lian down on the couch, taking the baby carrier, strapping it to his chest, he picked Lian back up and put her in the carrier.
Roy sighs. "Jason, no. No. NO."
Jason looks at the time, 7:28, and says, "Well, we don't got much of a choice, Harper. We gotta go."
Before Roy can yell at Jason again, Jason gets his grappling hook out of his utility belt and grapples away, which Roy follows with his own grapple still mad still hating what jason is doing, he is this close to strangling Jason.
The mission is supposed to be stealth.
Jason and Roy started off amazingly. They were quiet. They got to the second floor when suddenly...
Lian makes a loud, happy baby noise.
"BAHHHHHHHH!"
Which alerts any nearby guards.
In a few seconds, the lights cut off. When they come back on, Jason has two guns in his hands, Roy has his bow and arrow, and a lot of guards/criminals are there with guns.
Arsenal, smugly —while stepping subconsciously away from Jason because if any bullets happen to come to hit Roy, it's better if he moves away from Jason so that they hit him and nowhere near Jason or Lian— says, "I told you we should have left her with your brother, Hood."
Red Hood, flipping a nearby table, crouching to protect Lian a bit, while firing his shots, says, "Which one, sweetheart? I have around five brothers, and again... noooo."
He stretched out the "no."
After like five minutes, Roy pins three guards to the wall with trick arrows.
10:00 Minutes
Jason is executing a lot of flawless precise headshots. A lot of guards are bleeding on the floor. Lian is startled by the noise. Jason tries his best to cover her ears.
20:00 Minutes
Groans, cracking bones, and the heavy metallic smell of blood filled the air. Jason leaves a trail of unconscious and dead bodies while shooting, and he stood up, going to the closed and padlocked door with Roy.
Naturally, through it all, Lian was bouncing in her carrier like she was on a playground ride. She used to be startled, and still slightly is, but as the noise was stopping, she was slowly and slowly becoming less and less startled. She felt safe with Jason.
After Roy and Jason got rid of all the criminals/guards, they got near the door the guards were protecting.
Roy got one of his trick arrows, shooting it at the padlock, making the door hacked and become unlocked after a few seconds, and Lian made a happy baby noise at the visibility of dead bodies.
Roy looks at Lian, then Jason. He knew Jason was smug, and Roy mutters, his voice low, "Should I be concerned by the delight of violence our daughter has, princess?"
Jason, without looking away from Lian, says, "It's genetics, darling."
Roy doesn't even answer to that. He just looks at the beginning of the door, the frame, and everything he can see through the open door to see if there's any traps. He doesn't see anything.
"This is the door they didn't want us anywhere near, so after you, Princess," Roy said, stepping slightly back so that Jason could walk in.
Jason says sarcastically, "Such a gentleman you are."
Jason thinks about walking in first, really thinks about it, then after a beat of silence steps back standing next to the door and says, "You should go first."
Roy, slightly confused while Lian flaps her hands around, asks, "Why?" Roy asked genuinely confused.
Jason, with no hesitation, already stepping away, says matter-of-fact, "There could be a trap inside."
Roy nods at that. "Alright?" he asks, still confused.
Jason continues, slightly dramatic, "And if there is a trap, the first person who steps in dies-."
Roy cuts in immediately, voice flat, saying, "Okay, that's dramatic."
Jason very obviously ignores him and continues, "I already died once. I don't plan on it happening twice... and I have our daughter strapped to my chest, so you may go first."
Roy stood there for a solid three seconds, staring at his husband.
"Are you seriously pulling the 'I already died' card right now? In front of our daughter?"
Lian just blew a spit bubble and let out a soft, "Pffft."
Jason doesn't even answer with words. He just nods and waits for Roy to walk in.
Roy just rolls his eyes. He knows there's no point arguing with Jason Peter Todd. He walks in, looks around again, and after a few seconds says, "Nothing. Don't worry. No turrets, no secret guards hiding and waiting to kill us. You may walk in, sweetheart."
Roy, dramatically putting one hand out, says, "Or do you need me to give you my hand for help?"
Jason rolls his eyes, fake annoyed, and walks in. Lian tries to copy Jason. Obviously she can't, since she's a baby. Roy chuckles slightly as Jason swats his arm away.
