Avery knows he isn’t that smart. He can’t solve a code, clues tend to fly past his head, and puzzles always stump him. Avery isn’t clever in the way that Derek is. But Avery is also someone who would break netherite with nothing but his hands and the gravel stuck to his palms, stubborn and reckless and idiotically careless- just to find a guy he’d never met.
That was before, though. Now he’s met Derek so many times. And each time makes that ache in his hands worth it. He may not be smart enough to think up a way where they can both get out of this, but he’s stubborn, and if that’s the only thing he’s got, by god he’s going to hold onto it until the very end. He’ll grit his teeth and won’t give up until both him and Derek are leaving this place together.
