Work Text:
Ever since coming out, Suo had been less afraid to be himself. He wore whatever felt like him now without worrying about others. It felt liberating, which is exactly what Tsubaki must’ve felt when he stopped caring.
Anyway, he was running from the police.
Let’s take this back a little.
“There isn’t a price tag on this.” Sakura said “That means it’s free, right?” Nirei looked at Sakura with exasperated disappointment “No, Sakura-san. That just means that the price tag has fallen off.”
“We’ll ask the cashier when we go up to pay.” Suo said.
‘This’ was a blåhaj. It was a blåhaj which was incredibly soft. Sakura had liked it for some reason. He kept squishing it. He said that it really resonated with him which Suo had never expected to come out of Sakura.
Suo was a boy today. Not much changed aside from the fact that he’d done his hair up. He’d been growing out his hair a little so he could look as androgynous as possible. Nirei, Sakura and himself were shopping in the next town over where the Makochi train station went. They’d never really explored outside the town so he thought it would be a fun adventure.
They found an Ikea. Sakura had never been to an Ikea so Nirei practically dragged him inside while Sakura grumbled about it being ‘a literal furniture store’. Obviously he was not prepared for the restaurant and the blåhajs both of which he liked and also confused him to no end.
Sakura carefully put the blåhaj at the bottom of a plastic bag where'd they had been stashing their purchases and they continued shopping where the promptly got lost and then got separated in the maze that was your average Ikea which resulted in frantic texting until Suo had spotted Nirei hanging out with the cutlery and then they’d found Sakura who had taken up residence in the fake bathrooms. They paid and left.
End of story.
Except the barriers at the front of the store went off which startled Sakura who’d probably never seen those things much before and was generally quite surprised at sudden noises so the dual-haired delinquent took off running. He had already disappeared around a corner before Nirei and Suo even realised what was happening.
They took off and suddenly they noticed that they were being pursued by a security guard who was now radioing for back-up. “STOP!” the security guard yelled.
Suo and Nirei were not inclined to do that. They were more inclined to chase after their jumpy friend rather than stop for the guard. They rounded the corner, spotting Sakura legging it up the streets like a man possessed. “I think we forgot to scan the blåhaj.” Nirei said. Suo very nearly laughed at the ridiculousness of that statement.
Sakura stopped where he was panting as the other two flew past him yelling something to the extent of “RUN!” or “THE SECURITY GUARD IS ONTO US!” which prompted Sakura to start sprinting. They heard police sirens and Suo thought that this was an awful lot of fuss for a blåhaj. Cars skidded in front of them, police practically jumping out of their vehicles “PUT YOUR HANDS UP. DROP THE BAG.”
Suo raised his hands above his head as did Nirei and Sakura, the bag dully thudding on the floor. This was certainly going to be a fun story to tell when they got back to Furin. Yes, Umemiya, we got arrested by the police after we accidentally stole a blue shark plushie from Ikea.
One of the officers with a stern bead and sideburns went by and emptied the contents of the bag: A candle, a spatula, a random instruction manual Nirei had found and finally, la piece de resistance, the blåhaj. Suo briefly wondered what decisions he had taken in his life to lead him up to being a petty blåhaj criminal. “You’re under arrest, young men.”
Suo decided that this situation could not get worse and while he was currently male, he decided to say: “I’m a girl.” for the hell of it. That did not stop the officers from loading Sakura, Nirei and himself into separate police cars.
They had to call Umemiya to bail them out because Nirei’s parents would kill them, Sakura’s parents were dead and Suo’s parents were transphobic little pussies. Suo had thought coming out would help them realise just how stupid their hate was and maybe, just maybe, they’d be more accepting considering the person in question was the same child that they’d known since the day he was born but no, they kicked him out the same day. At the moment he was living with Sakura which was the best decision of his life.
However, there was nothing worse than Umemiya’s disappointed stare as they were herded out into the police station’s lobby. “Really?” he asked, big brother tone fully in use. “You got arrested for stealing a blåhaj from Ikea?” They nodded and Umemiya sighed. Sakura glanced around to make sure no officers were watching before he tugged the blåhaj from under his shirt. Umemiya’s exasperation reached levels never known by a human before. “I picked it up before they put me in the car.” Sakura shrugged and then led the way out of the station.
