[ EXCERPT FROM PERSONA BOOK ONE: VALIANT, CHAPTER THREE ]
“The Invisible Mafia.” The Warden stated, clicking on a red button that led to the next slide. The photo taken obviously from an old camera, grainy and definitely out of shape. But, you could make out the army of invisible people marching in unison down a large street in near total darkness. All of them were wearing matching netherite armor, complete with a shimmering purple glow. Flame raised an eyebrow — you couldn’t tell anyways, he was wearing a blindfold.
The heroes in the room sat up a little straighter when the image was shown. “The photo was taken approximately two days ago by a passing civilian. This is what they called themselves. We don’t know their goals, nor their motivations, but we do know their leader.” A click and the next image was shown.
It was in the same area and the same time, but the camera shifted towards the front of the army. A guy stood in a purple and black military suit, complete with gold accents. The strange thing is, that this man did not even have a face, instead his entire head was covered in a deep shade of purple and black glitch effect. It was an eyesore even from a grainy image, and Flame could not even imagine what that man would look like in real life.
“Word on the street is that this man is called The Commander, but it’s just rumors for now.” A pause. “What we need to do is find out if they are an active threat, the real identity and gift of the leader, who are the people in that army, and what their intentions are.”
Flame frowned slightly, his eyes scanning the masked heroes who were all currently murmuring with each other, probably something about this new threat. Of course it would stir up something, nothing in the past history of Unstable City had seen a villain like this, one with enough power to command an entire army and vanish every night.

Rundown of the world of PERSONA
The world of PERSONA is an extremely complex yet beautifully well crafted story with many different elements that make it all work. It is a superhuman society, with the powers called “gifts,” though some individuals may have underlying mutations that cause different hair color, skin, eyes, or even animal characteristics (like wings, fur, cat ears, etc.)
Identity is a very important part of this story, as each hero, vigilante, and villain go by code names and all collectively cover their faces. Why? Here are some reasons:
- Privacy. Heroes are practically worshiped in this society, and it’s in the best interest to go by a code name and cover your faces. You don’t want your personal life to be in the media spotlight every single day. It’s just collectively easier.
- Protection. If you are a villain or vigilante, you WANT to conceal your identity, or else it would be pretty easy to get jumped in your own home. Trust me, you do not want to go to jail.
- The AURA. The amount of aura you get if you're faceless. Just think about it.
Our three main protagonists are Flame (a hero under the name Inferno), Spoke (a vigilante under the name Void), and Wemmbu (a villain under the name Gambit). Their stories are told through three different books as they are slowly putting the pieces in place to defeat the Invisible Mafia. The side characters serve important roles as well, from aiding the protagonists in their respective roles, being mentors who guide them, or being a friend for them at the end of the day.
They aren’t also all perfect characters, which makes them all feel so real. They all have a variety of flaws that make you resonate with them, as you have been in their shoes someway in another.
I honestly cannot wait for the ending of this beautiful series, it feels like you will be saying a goodbye to a very old friend.

[ EXCERPT FROM PERSONA BOOK THREE: MALEVOLENT, CHAPTER 16 ]
Wemmbu was immediately hit with a memory from months ago, but it felt like years to him.
“Why did you become a villain anyways?” Eggchan asked, his brilliant blue eyes staring into the feared purple mask of Gambit. The supervillain paused, before tilting his head to watch the night sky, moonlight dancing on his long silky hair. The rooftop they sat at is a great view to stargaze after all.
After a long beat of silence, Wemmbu finally spoke. “Because no one wanted a demon child like me. Because no one cared enough for the other starving children like me. Because not a single hero helped any of us when we asked and begged. Because society is too crumpled to realize the actual truth and instead believe in what they want to believe. Because no one ever reached out a hand for me.”
Another long beat of silence.
“You know fate is a funny thing Wemmbu,” Eggchan spoke, his eyes darkening as he had seen lifetimes. “Maybe one day, you will have a change of heart when someone finally gives you a hand.”
The purple-haired individual snorted and sighed. “Yeah right.”
But now, there was his enemy, a hero no less, his rival, reaching out a hand covered in blood and sweat.

I HAVE A THEORY FOR PERSONA: SAUDADE!
The word “Saudade” itself means and I quote from Google, “an emotional state of melancholic longing for a person, place, or thing that is absent.”
So what if this means someone really important DIES.
The protags (from the last book) are at their breaking point, and the mafia is literally stronger than ever. It seems like an impossible situation, but Spoke found something at the very end that could help them defeat the mafia. Now, literally no one knows what this thing is, but it is something of “great power beyond what the world could comprehend.” Now, people have been literally arguing about this for the past two years, but I think that great power is so deadly that something will go terribly wrong and BAM, someone DIES.
It’s possible, Parrot once literally tweeted “lmao maybe I will kill off a beloved character just to see all of you chungies suffer,” SO IT'S NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION!!!

[ EXCERPT FROM PERSONA BOOK TWO: AMBIVALENT, CHAPTER 9 ]
“OPEN THE PORTAL STELLAR, I CAN'T DO PRISON AT MY AGE!” Spoke wailed dramatically into his communicator as he jumped from building to building, an army of invisible soldiers hot on his trails. Even with all of that bulky armor, the invisible soldiers were still able to keep a fairly fast pace with him, even gaining less distance by the second.
“VOID, I CAN’T, THE INVISIBLE WERIDOS ARE ON ME TOO!”
“WE ARE ACTUALLY SO DEAD!” Crimson shouted right behind Spoke as they both tumbled onto the next building. “YOU OWE ME A GODDAM CANDY BAR AFTER THIS.”
“WITH WHAT MONEY?”
“UM, YOUR GIFT?”
“YOU KNOW THE FOOD THAT I SUMMON TASTES LIKE RADIOACTIVE SHIT-“

[ EXCERPT FROM PERSONA BOOK FOUR: SAUDADE, A THANK YOU NOTE ]
Dear readers,
I was nineteen when I first started putting my pencil to the paper and began working on this series with nothing more than a dream. Now six years later the final book is in your hands. I didn’t know what to expect when I was furiously developing my characters and plot lines, and it was certainly not the loving community that we have built. Your fanart and theories were all so interesting to look at.
The finale of PERSONA is one that I thought about essentially every single day. On the train, during lunch, and especially right before bed (I swear that is where all my inspiration comes from and that has led to many late nights of scribbling away in my notebook). I was stuck as you can say for most of the long years that I have worked on this. None of the options and endings seemed right or fitting to end off such a complex storyline. It was to a point where I was considering discontinuing the series because I couldn’t fathom giving you all an unsatisfying end.
Then, after a particularly long night of staring at my laptop, I experienced a dream. Funny how all great things started with one. Now, I can’t say what I did or what exactly happened, but I can tell you what the conclusion was.
The world simply isn’t just black on white, white on black. The world is a changing, evolving, and growing cascade of all the different colors under the sun, from royal blues to bright yellows. We are different in every single level, yet all still so connected. Some just can’t seem to understand it, while some fully embrace it like an old friend.
I hope you enjoy the final book in the PERSONA series, Saudade.
