BREAKING NEWS: A New Superhero in Town? Who is this SHADOW? (2 min read)
By: Nobara Kugisaki - Last updated August 27, 2026 at 4:35 PM.
Locals are calling him ‘SHADOW,’ but the truth is no one is certain who is hiding under the mask of our hometown’s newest hero. After saving a young woman from a mugging, the mysterious hero was seen facing off with SUKUNA, notorious leader of the Ryomen gang. Will this new face (whether we ever see it or not?) be what this city needs to wipe out Sukuna for good?
Shadow has not responded to our request to comment. Sukuna… (Click Here to Keep Reading!)

Megumi stares at his phone screen before pressing the three dots that promise the continuation of the story (which expand to read Sukuna has not responded to our request to comment. Follow the Jujutsu University Free Press for updates!) and frowning. He scrolls back up to look at the byline.
Nobara Kugisaki. He has to stop this girl. Or, sabotage her at the very least. He has a secret identity to protect after all.
Starting university is hard enough as is, but with a superhero gig on the side Megumi feels a little in over his head. He only applied to Jujutsu University because his mentor, Gojo, promised he could finally start actually helping people with his powers instead of endlessly training. Megumi has trained enough, he’s ready, but if this Kugisaki girl draws too much attention to him it might be all over, at least until Gojo trusts him to be stealthy again.
Megumi sighs. He didn’t mean to have a face-off with a supervillain on his first night at university. He’d left his dorm without permission from Gojo to do any superhero work, mostly just intending to prowl the streets and get a lay of the campus, but then a woman was getting assaulted right in front of him. Was he just supposed to stand by and watch?
And then. Out of nowhere, he’d felt that presence.
It was overwhelming, like a wall of terror that was not his own being pushed onto his body. It had frozen him in place, and then he’d heard a low voice, laced in fire.
“Enchanting.”
That sole word kept him still, paralyzed, for a few solid seconds before he willed himself to turn around.
The man standing before him was tall, with striking black tattoos covering his face, arms, and torso, visible from the fact he wasn’t wearing a shirt. His hair was fluffy and pink on the top, but shaved on the sides in a dark undercut. His eyes seemed to hold liquid flame itself in them as they appraised Megumi.
“Excuse me?” He finally managed to ask, in a voice he pretended sounded more level than it really was.
Megumi knew the identity of this man, everyone in the city did: Sukuna of the Ryomen gang.
“You are. What do they call you?”
There was some hidden compulsion power in his words, something beyond just regular charisma that dipped into supernatural power, something that almost had Megumi telling Sukuna his real name. Instead, he crossed his arms over his chest, as if creating a shield between himself and the other man.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? That’s a shame. I’ve been watching you, moving quietly in the shadows. Is that what you are? A shadow?” His voice was teasing, harshly juxtaposing the danger Megumi knew the other man represented.
“Shadow! if you’re going to fight him, please do it away from our shop, okay?” A high-pitched voice called out, and Megumi looked up to see a child’s face peering out of a window above the storefront behind him. Fuck, a kid.
He looked back down, planning to draw the supervillain away from the innocent bystanders, but Sukuna was already gone, had already slipped away into the night. If it weren’t for this article, which popped up on Megumi’s instagram feed today from the account 'Jujutsu University Free Press, there would be no proof the interaction even took place at all.
Shadow. That’s how he has this superhero name now, associated with him. Because of what Sukuna called him.
Megumi closes his eyes, and sighs again deeply. He knows he was lucky more didn’t happen, but the idea of taking down the infamous supervillain also makes him feel a little hesitantly excited. He remembers the words from the article (Will this new face (whether we ever see it or not?) be what this city needs to wipe out Sukuna for good?) and tries to fight the rising mix of panic and pride in his chest.
The next time he confronts Sukuna, he’ll be ready. Megumi is determined to take him down.
Luckily, he has his room to himself to worry about it for now. He moved in as soon as the window opened, but there is still at least a week before that ends, and Megumi does not pretend to feel disappointed with each passing day as the other side of his room remains empty upon his return. Maybe it will stay that way the whole year; that would be lucky. For someone who has been told he’s gifted countless times, Megumi has often felt as though the universe forgot to make him fortunate as well.
Aside from his powers, he’s just a normal guy, facing a plethora of Normal Guy problems. For starters, he doesn’t know what he wants to major in, which is partly because he only came here to start doing real superhero work. He’s enrolled in general education classes that will satisfy the major requirements for most of the popular choices, but he doesn’t see any of them being all that appealing.
He’d rather focus on finding Kugisaki. For that reason, he chooses to ignore his mounting to-do list (buy textbooks, get his class schedule, find professor and TA office hours, etc…) in favor of tracking down the JUFP (Jujutsu University Free Press) field office, betting that’s a safe place to start looking for her.
– – – – –
Megumi finds Nobara Kugisaki easily enough. She is … a character. After he poked his head in the dinky field office (which, although it appeared something like a hole in the wall on the outside, a nondescript sign labeled ‘JUFP’ with an outside window underneath an Insomnia Cookies, was actually much larger and less scary looking on the inside) Nobara is one of the few students milling about in the field office, and immediately tries to recruit him.
Despite his insistence that he’s only curious, it’s only after Nobara Kugisaki forcibly introduces him to everyone in the office that he has a chance to confront her about her article on Shadow.
“So..” he tries to think of a natural way to bring up the articles, but he can’t think of one. “You wrote that article about that guy? The new superhero?” He tries to sound like he doesn’t really know what’s going on.
“Yeah, he’s my beat,” she replies with a nod, and now Megumi honestly doesn’t know what’s going on. Her beat?
She laughs at his puzzled expression. “In journalism, your beat is the thing you focus on, think ‘divide and conquer,’ so everyone specializes in whatever they cover because you’re doing it all the time and you know all the evolving stories. Sometimes you switch beats, but right now my beat is Shadow.”
Megumi realizes with a sinking feeling that this means the eccentric young woman in front of him is essentially in charge of his media presence.
“How did you get this beat when the school year hasn’t even technically started yet?” He asks, wondering how a fellow first-year has already been delegated something so important.
“Oh, well, Shadow’s just an up-and-coming hero, so no one really cares about him, which makes covering him a good trial beat!” Nobara responds enthusiastically, and Megumi deflates a little. Oh.
“Wanna see my latest story? It’s way more interesting!” She promises with excitement in her eyes, and he feels a little suspicious but agrees with a silent nod. She pulls out her phone and then faces the screen towards him, revealing an Instagram post featuring a photo of him and Sukuna from a few nights previously. The caption reads:
SHADOW vs SUKUNA: Heated Sorcery? (2 min read)
By: Nobara Kugisaki - Last updated August 28, 2026 at 2:07 PM.
The JU community is still waiting to see another face-off between its newest budding rivalry– the mysterious newcomer, SHADOW, versus SUKUNA, notorious supervillain– but eyewitness accounts suggest their first battle will not be their last, as Sukuna was heard saying, “I’ll be watching you,” to Shadow. Who will be the victor in this epic clash of superpowers? Shadow has not responded to our request to comment. Sukuna… (Click Here to Keep Reading!)

“Who’s the eyewitness?” Megumi asks before he can help himself, looking up at Nobara. She blinks back at him innocently.
“That’s obviously confidential.” He has a feeling she made it up (considering he doesn’t remember Sukuna saying any such thing), and sighs, looking back down. Then, Megumi clicks on the dots, looks closer, and his eyes narrow.
“Why is this labeled as hashtag-’gay’?”
Nobara chuckles evilly. “What, you think that’s inaccurate?"
“Kugisaki! This is a serious matter! Sukuna is a dangerous supervillain, and Shadow is risking his life out there fighting him!”
She taps her finger on her chin as if mulling over what he said. “Hmm, I hadn’t considered that, Fushiguro. I’ll be sure to thank Shadow for his courage if I ever get the chance. But, I raise you this– it’s also kind of gay.” And then she shoots him a smirk that tells him the matter is pointless. With her, at least.
Megumi stalks over to the open door in the press office, where the faculty supervisor, Shoko Ieiri, is lounging in her office chair.
“Did you know Kugisaki is tagging posts about Shadow and Sukuna as gay?” He demands. She raises an unimpressed eyebrow.
“Is that… upsetting to you? What was it, Fushiguro? I trust Nobara, she does great work. It’s the social media age, and I’m just a dinosaur–” she raises her hand to rest dramatically on her chest, and Megumi thinks she might be mocking him “-who am I to question her methods, even if they’re a little unconventional?” Her words remain flippant as Megumi gapes at her.
Then, as if making a point, Shoko pulls out a GeekBar vape and takes a hit right in front of him. The constellation pattern on the side lights up when she hits it, and then she’s blowing a puff of smoke out lazily, like she doesn’t have a care in the world.
“Are you seriously vaping?” He asks incredulously.
“This is my office, kid.” She responds with a sterner voice than before. “Now scram.”
He retreats back to Nobara angrily and seethes out, “You two are made for each other,” before running out of the JUFP field office with his metaphorical tail between his legs.
– – – – –
When he returns to his room, for a split second he thinks Sukuna has already discovered him.
There’s a figure standing in his door, which is open, and his pink hair and dark undercut are so remarkably similar to Sukuna’s, and his height is the same, that it strikes a bolt of fear through Megumi’s heart. However, when the figure turns around, his face is lacking Sukuna’s tattoos, and he’s smiling at Megumi warmly.
“Hiya, roomie! I’m Yuji Itadori! Nice to meet you!” He exclaims earnestly, putting his hand out to shake.
Something lurches in Megumi’s chest and he distantly thinks, Oh fuck.
He was foolish to think this boy might be Sukuna. Their auras are entirely different. This boy, Yuji, is a bottle of sunshine in human form; he’s wearing a baggy yellow t-shirt and longish jean shorts, and he has a messenger bag casually slung around his chest in a way that makes him look a little roguish. The skin around his eyes crinkles into smile lines as he looks at Megumi, and he’s tilting his head slightly to the side, his eyes happy like a golden retriever.
Oh fuck, Megumi thinks again. Somehow he manages to reach out to try and shake Yuji’s hand, but then the boy is doing some weird sliding motion and squeezing Megumi’s hand briefly before letting it drop that has Megumi holding his hand dumbly in the air afterwards.
“Oh shit, you don’t know how to dap?” Yuji asks casually, chuckling lightly, and his voice sounds like music, his laugh like bells. “Don’t worry, roomie, we’ll have a handshake in no time.”
“Dap?” Megumi’s voice sounds silly in his own ears, alien. He hesitantly tucks his hand back down. Yuji has walked back into the room where a suitcase is open on the bed which had been vacant on the other side of Megumi’s room the last few days, and Megumi follows him.
“Like, dap someone up?” Megumi is a little embarrassed he doesn’t know what this is, but he put the pieces together that the weird sliding motion Yuji did must have been a dap and Megumi needs to learn how to do it, stat. But then, Yuji changes the subject with ease, asking “Hey what’s your name, by the way?”
“Fushiguro. Megumi Fushiguro,” he chokes out.
“Ooooh that’s a cool name,” Yuji gushes (Megumi thinks It’s really not), but then he purrs out, “Megumi Fushiguro,” as if announcing someone grand into a ballroom, and that stupid, awful feeling in Megumi’s chest lurches again. Oh, fuck.
He’s definitely, certifiably, so fucked.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD HERO?: SHADOW SAVES Local Cat From Tree, No Sight of SUKUNA (2 min read)
By: Nobara Kugisaki - Last updated August 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM.
It seems JU’s newest hero, SHADOW, has a soft side, as this last weekend he was seen performing small neighbourly acts of service: he rescued a local cat from a tree, was seen cleaning litter in the JU Quad, and walked several elderly people across the street. There have been no reports of SUKUNA showing his face in the city again since the arrival of Shadow, showing our new hero may already be having some success against his nemesis. The JU community is placing its hope in Shadow to keep driving the scourge of the Ryomen gang out of our city!

“How come you don’t put any of the gay stuff in your articles on the JUFP website?” Megumi asks Nobara a few days later, who found him during orientation and seems determined to follow him around. Does she think that they’re friends or something?
As irritating as that thought is, it provides him an opportunity to ask the question. He’s realized after reading all of Nobara’s stories about Shadow that the blog posts on the JUFP website tend to be of a much higher quality than her Instagram posts: they are all amply hyperlinked and always only contain legitimate facts (opposed to her falsified quotations), and they never suggest at a romantic relationship between himself and Sukuna.
He once thought that Nobara might have some secret way of spying on him that was enabling her to write her first article, maybe a superpower, but after the last article he thinks she’s grasping for content. He always does small acts of service when out prowling the streets, yet she still found a way to make it about Sukuna, and their (alleged) romantic relationship.
“Oh, the University Admin checks that. Plus, as José Esteban Muñoz wisely said, queerness lies in the ephemeral!”
He doesn’t really understand her, but he doesn't know if she understands herself either. “Do you know what that word means?”
“Oh my god, Fushiguro, don’t tell me you’re mainsplaining queerness to a lesbian.” His cheeks grow hot. Maybe he should shut up.
“I’m literally gay,” he replies instead, because his tongue is a traitor. For the first time since he’s met Nobara, she’s momentarily speechless. He freezes in place. Oh shit. He’s not exactly in the closet, but he tries to keep that information under wraps nonetheless.
After a beat, Nobara recovers. “Still a man!” She waves a hand dismissively, and despite himself he’s privately a little grateful that Nobara is this way. She’s the first person he’s met who hasn’t made a big deal about him coming out, and it feels nicer than he would have expected.
Megumi decides he will tentatively explore the possibility of a friendship with Nobara Kugisaki.
– – – – –
“Where are you off to?” Yuji asks, Megumi’s hand hovering over the doorknob of their room, and he realizes the backpack he’s carrying at 9pm is slightly more conspicuous than he’d intended.
“Nowhere,” he replies, hoping Yuji will take the hint that he wants to be left alone.
He doesn’t. Instead, he asks “Oh, cool, can I come with?” in this bright voice that Megumi knows he won’t be able to say no to.
They have been living together for approximately two days, and Megumi is already struggling immensely. It’s not that Yuji’s a bad roommate (well, sometimes he can do things that Megumi thinks are red flags, like play his music too loudly or burp without saying Excuse me or leave his dirty clothes on the floor, but he’s mostly decent so far), however, he can’t exactly go out looking for Sukuna with Yuji along for the ride.
There’s also the issue that looking at Yuji for too long makes Megumi’s heart do those awful, lurching, twisting motions in his chest, like it’s trying to leap out towards the pink-haired boy, and it scares him a little how much he is already apparently crushing on Yuji this quickly into knowing him. They are supposed to live together the entire year, he needs to act like a regular human person and maintain his guard to keep his secret identity safe, but he’s weak. Yuji’s eyes are so pretty and shiny, and Megumi wants to be his friend (and maybe hold his hand).
“Sure,” he agrees, and because he has to think of something, he says, “I hope you don’t mind if I introduce you to someone.”
Megumi’s first thought was to introduce him to Nobara, but she isn’t at the JUFP field office, so he pivots to someone else: Gojo. It’s too late for him to be at his office, but luckily, Megumi knows where Gojo lives. After all, the man did practically raise him.
Gojo’s place is just off campus, so the walk to his apartment is just about fifteen minutes for a regular person (Megumi, proudly, can do it in ten), and the whole walk there Yuji is chatting with him brightly. He walks through the world like it can do him no harm, high off the confidence of a strong young man, and Megumi knows that Yuji is someone he needs to protect, not just from the vague, abstract dangers of the world, but from Sukuna. The supervillain made it obvious he was going to return and face Megumi again at some point, and even though he wears a mask and a hero suit when he’s out keeping the streets safe, for some reason he feels like Sukuna would recognize him in his civilian clothes, and would show no apprehension about calling him Shadow in front of Yuji.
“Hey, Fushigu-bro, are we almost there yet?” Yuji asks him, snapping Megumi out of his reverie.
“Yeah, we are,” he says, because they’ve arrived. “We’re here.”
One might have expected someone like Gojo’s apartment to be deep in the urban center of a city in some high-rise, penthouse suite, minimalist as all hell and barely lived in, but Gojo (despite, Megumi thinks, not at all being worth him) is blessed to have a partner with taste, Suguru Geto. They live together in a brownstone townhouse that sits on a street lined with similarly designed buildings, dotted with tall trees and foliage lining the sidewalk, and every time Megumi walks down it he can’t help but feel he’s in a coming-of-age movie or something. It has a dramatic, almost dreamy atmosphere, especially at night with the streetlights creating a soft glow that illuminates the moths and other nighttime insects flying around in their shine. They cast a warm, buttery light onto Yuji’s face that makes him look exceptionally soft, like his features are brushstrokes of an oil painting rather than cold, hard reality standing a few feet away from Megumi.
Maybe Megumi is just feeling a little romantic.
He texts Gojo a quick We’re here as they walk up the sidewalk to the front door, and tries to shut down the stupid daydream that’s taking hold of his mind where he’s introducing Yuji to Gojo and Geto as his boyfriend. Stupid, stupid, stupid, he thinks, trying to flood his brain with the words in an effort to drown out the fantasy.
Then the door opens, which saves him. “Yo, Megumi!” Geto greets him when he walks in with a cheerful wave. “Who’s this, the roommate?”
“Hiya! I’m Yuji Itadori, nice to meet you!” Yuji says in that bright voice, and when he sticks his hand out he gives Geto a regular handshake that makes Megumi feel embarrassed all over again.
When they’ve finished shedding their shoes in the foyer and make their way into the kitchen, Gojo has his back facing the entrance, holding a wine glass lazily in one hand and his phone in the other. As they approach the doorway, Geto chatting casually with them, as if in slow-motion Megumi sees Gojo turn around, and then his spine straighten and eyes widen in a way that immediately lets Megumi know Gojo has made the same mistake upon seeing Yuji for the first time that he did: he thinks Yuji is Sukuna.
For a moment, Megumi is a little worried that Gojo will do something stupid, like reveal his superhero identity and charge at Yuji, but then he relaxes and says, “Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in,” so casually that Megumi thinks maybe he was fooling himself about Gojo’s apprehension.
“Hello! I’m Yuji Itadori, nice to meet you!” Yuji introduces himself again earnestly, and by now Megumi is used to the twisting, lurching feeling in his chest that he feels in response. Gojo extends a hand to Yuji and ‘daps him up’ (as Megumi understands the phrase should be used) without either of them communicating their intention to do so beforehand, and Megumi is a tinge annoyed at Gojo but mostly befuddled. How did they know they were going to do that?
Then, Gojo shoots him a look that says We need to talk, and Megumi knows he’s in trouble. For the first hour or two, Gojo doesn’t approach him, just makes idle conversation with Yuji and Geto, asking about their class schedules and explaining what subjects he and Geto (who are both employed at JU as professors) teach, and, like an idiot, Megumi allows himself to relax. When Geto offers to show Yuji their rooftop, Gojo places a hand on his shoulder that Megumi knows means Stay here, and he steels himself.
“You see it too?” Megumi decides to beat Gojo to it once the others are out of earshot.
“Of course I see it, my question for you is why you saw it and brought him into my home?” Gojo asks with a voice that is far firmer than Megumi had been anticipating.
“He’s not Sukuna.”
“And how do you know that, exactly?” The tone of Gojo’s voice is slightly condescending, and it makes Megumi angry. Who is Gojo to tell him about his own roommate? He knows Yuji.
“Have you seen his face? Where are the tattoos?”
Gojo crosses his arms over his chest, as if not believing Megumi’s reasoning. “He might paint them on.”
“He doesn’t. I saw them up close, I would know,” Megumi retorts, and then bites his tongue. Shit.
“That’s another issue,” Gojo says angrily. “Why, again, were you out doing hero work that night? I don’t remember telling you to go out on the streets. You’re nowhere near ready to be going up against someone as powerful as Sukuna– he’ll eat you alive.”
Megumi knows that Gojo is probably right, but he just responds with, “I’m an adult now, you can’t stop me, Gojo.”
The look he receives in response makes him feel a little guilty. “I can get you kicked out of your university and stop providing you financial assistance, to be clear, but we both know I’m too nice to do that.” Are you, really? Megumi thinks, but then Gojo adds on softly, “I just don’t want you to die, kid.”
He looks down, unable to take the sudden paternal softness in Gojo’s eyes. This man is the closest thing he has to a father.
“I know,” Megumi says, his throat feeling thick. “Just… I have to grow up at some point, okay? Eventually you’re going to have to trust me to know what I’m doing.”
When he raises his head Gojo is still looking at him with that furrow in his brow and softness in his eyes, but then he closes them, takes a deep breath, and sighs dramatically. “I do, fine, fine, fine. Have it your way. Don’t come crying to me when he ends up being Sukuna, though.”
Megumi wants to say something witty in response, but then he hears Geto and Yuji’s voices in the hallway as they return to the kitchen, and he just shoots Gojo a look that says He won’t.
Yuji interrupts their silent conversation with a bright, “So, how did you two end up together?”
Geto quickly attempts to take control of the story. “Satoru was the frat president of- what’s it called again? Alpha Kappa… Beta? Sigma? Gamma? Phi?”
Gojo puts a hand over his mouth as if he’s stifling a laugh and looks at his partner with amusement. “You seriously don’t remember?”
“They all sound the same! Anyway, he was annoying as fuck and kept trying to flirt with me in our Chem II class with these lame-ass chemistry themed pickup lines.”
“They weren’t lame! You were into it!” Gojo protests.
“I-!” Geto cuts himself off, and a faint pink color blooms in his cheeks. “I tolerated it.”
“So, how long did it take for him to win you over then? Years?” Yuji’s voice is so sweet and earnest that Megumi feels a little embarrassed on Geto’s behalf, having been told this story before and knowing how it ends.
The dark-haired man looks away, and then twists his lips awkwardly before answering, “Not… exactly.”
“We fell hard and fast and both said ‘I love you’ after only, like, a month. Like teenagers,” Gojo crows, sounding extremely proud of himself.
“We were barely older than that!” Geto counters, but he doesn’t deny Gojo’s allegations.
“Awwww!” Yuji is smiling wide, and Megumi’s heart lurches. The feeling is familiar by now, expected.
“And we did it in-”
“OH MY GOD, SHUT UP!” Geto is blushing furiously now, and Gojo is grinning like that was the point.
Yuji looks back and forth between the two of them with bright, curious eyes. “What did you do?”
Gojo is grinning deviously. “More like, what do we still do-”
“Shut. Up. Please.”
Megumi makes a mental note to remember to stay out of the chemistry laboratories. He isn’t sure which, if any, haven’t been subject to Gojo and Geto’s… misdeeds, but the safest bet is zero.
“What happened next?” Yuji asks cheerfully, and Megumi feels something in his stomach drop.
Oh shit. This is dangerous territory.
What happened next?
Megumi knows, because it’s the story of his entire life. The story of how he became a sorcerer, a superhero.
The accident happened. His parents died, his sister fell into a coma, and everything changed. Gojo took him in. And Geto…
As much as Megumi sometimes harbors the slightest bit of resentment towards his caregivers for their role in flipping his life upside down, every time Megumi sees the faint scar across Geto’s forehead, sees the way that Gojo protectively orbits around him like he’s afraid to let Geto out of his sight, like he’s afraid that thing will come back…
“The rest is history,” Gojo replies smoothly, but his smile doesn’t reach his eyes. Yuji shows a rare sign of tact and seems to understand that he should drop the subject, and the conversation shifts to more innocuous topics until they bid the pair farewell.
Fortunately, Yuji doesn’t ask about it on their trek back to the dorms, but thoughts are swirling in Megumi’s head as he silently walks home. The accident. My family. What happened to Geto…
Every time that tiny spark of resentment tries to rear its head, Megumi resolutely stamps it out. He knows they have suffered enough for their mistakes.

Megumi quickly regrets becoming friends with Nobara.
(18:47) Nobara: fushiguroooooo
(18:58) Nobara: fushiguroooooooooooooo
(19:14) Nobara: megumi fushiguro?
(20:00) Nobara: ohhh megumiiiiii~
(20:01) Oh my fucking GOD what do you want?
(20:02) Nobara: wow that worked!
(20:02) Nobara: amazing!
(20:05) ……
She texts him incessantly. He thinks any normal girl would feel a little more hesitation about double, triple, even quadruple texting him, but she seems to feel no shame. If he didn’t know she’s a lesbian, he would think she is trying to come on to him. No, no, she’s just Like That, it seems.
(20:06) Nobara: come to the JUFP office!!!!!
(20:07) Why? What do you want?
(20:09) Nobara: to drink obv!
(20:09) Nobara: :D !!!
(20:11) I think that’s an abuse of power.
(20:12) It’s an abuse of something.
(20:15) Nobara: oh just get ur butt over here already
(20:18) You are the pushiest woman I’ve
ever had the displeasure to meet.
(20:25) Nobara: pls i’m literally ur best friend
(20:26) ……Maybe.
The second reason he starts regretting becoming Nobara’s friend is that she won’t let the matter drop of him joining her stupid journalism club.
“But-”
“No,” he says for the upteenth time that night. He acquiesced and is hanging out with her in the JUFP field office (because she kept texting him and telling him she would track down his mother and tell her he was out drinking if he didn’t, and he really doesn’t need her investigating the corners of his fake background story), and it’s the night before the first day of classes so they’re passing a bottle of Tito’s wrapped in a brown paper bag between them. Thankfully, Shoko is long, long gone, so they don’t feel too worried about being caught. Megumi had even offered to Yuji that he could come, but the other boy had some mysterious plans with ‘people he knows,’ so they’re alone in the field office.
“But you’re tall! You could get pictures I can’t reach! And you don’t know what you want to study, maybe you’ll even like journalism! And then you’d have something to do!”
He wants to say No again, but then he realizes she might have accidentally given him the solution to his problems with Yuji on and her shamelessly awful reporting on a silver platter. This way, he could sabotage her efforts at figuring out information on Shadow’s secret identity, remove as many suggestive tags as possible from her posts, and have an excuse whenever Yuji asks where he’s going, where he’s been, or why he seems to always be leaving the scene of Shadow’s saves.
“...Fine.”
“Really?” It makes sense for her to be shocked, she’s asked him probably a million times the last day. Before he can say Really, she exclaims, “Alright, well, no take backs!”
And just like that, against all odds, Megumi becomes the newest member of the JUFP.

SHADOW AND SUKUNA FACE-OFF: A RIVALRY FOR THE AGES? (3 min read)
By: Nobara Kugisaki & Megumi Fushiguro - Last updated September 2nd, 2026 at 5:05 PM.
SHADOW, our newest hometown hero, was once again sighted having a face-off with the notorious supervillain, SUKUNA, leader of the Ryomen gang! Pedestrians, beware: this most recent showdown ended in a violent clash of superpowers that destroyed the civilian infrastructure of Ohio St. from its intersections at 5th to 12th Sts, and resulted in injuries to 4 civilian bystanders. As a PSA, for their own safety all civilians should immediately evacuate the premises if they see Sukuna and Shadow fighting.
