Chapter 1: Trinity

Chapter Text

7:02pm

The dreaded nightshift rotation. Everyone has to do it at some point in their residency. This week Trinity was on nightshift, and she hated every minute of it. Why would someone willingly ruin their circadian rhythm was beyond her. But at least Shen does coffee orders for everyone.

"Hey, who's the extra one for?" She asked, noticing the fifth cup.

"Oh, that's Emery's."

"Who's Emery?"

"I am." A new voice said before an arm reached over her and grabbed the coffee.

Turning to look Trinity saw Dr. Walsh, whose first name is emery apparently, standing behind her. She was wearing a bright purple sweatshirt the had the words 'your village called. they're missing their idiot' written in white block letters. Over her shoulder were 2 giant canvas tote bags that held something rectangular.

"Lyra discovered a love of baking yesterday in her home economics class and decided to take over my kitchen today." Walsh said, handing Shen the tote bag. "There's like 4 different types of cookies in there."

Just as Shen was about to say something Walsh's phone went off.

Pulling her phone out of her pocket she said. "I need to go scrub in on an emergency hysterectomy. See you later losers."

Trinity watched her go. Watched Dr. Abbot emerge from the elevator just as she pressed the button. Watch Abbot give her a kiss. Watched the fond looks they gave each other as the doors closed.

"Is that normal?" She asked.

"Sometimes." Shen smiled. "Always love a sweet treat before a quiet shift."

"Goddammit Shen!" Ellis yelled from the locker room.

7:42pm

Shen just had to jinx it, didn't he? The past 40 minutes of her shift had Trinity run ragged already and she still had 12 hours to go. Shortly after Walsh left the first of 7 MVA victims rolled in. Most were didn't require surgery but there was a few that did. They were currently working on one of those that does. His name is mason, he is 19, and he had the unfortunate luck of driving a motorcycle and crashed into the second car.

While he was wearing a helmet, that's where his protection ended. If reports are to be believed he hit the second car at 40 MPH after slowing drastically from 70, flipped over the handlebars of his bike, and through the windshield of the first car. It was a true miracle that he even made it into the ED while still alive.

The trauma room was chaos. Nurses were running back and forth bringing meds, intubation kits, and anything else they need to try and save this kids life. Abbot was shouting orders while Trinity tried to get the kid some air in his lungs and the surgery resident that was in the trauma room was incompetent.

"Ok, you!" Abbot shouted, pointing at the trauma resident. "Get out and go find Walsh."

"We don't need her." There was something about the way the surgeon said 'her' that gave trinity bad vibes. And based on the look on Abbot's face, he felt that too.

"You're incompetent. We need an adult if this kid wants a chance at survival. So, get out and go find Walsh. now!" Abbot yelled again, turning back the body on the table and Trinity just as she got air back into his lungs. "What did the FAST exam say?"

"FAST is positive for fluid in the pericardial space. " The tech said.

"Shit! Someone get me an ETA on Walsh!" Abbot yells out to the trauma resident standing in the doorway. Someone hands him a tray holding everything he needs for a pericardiocentesis.

Dr. Abbot was focused on the ultrasound screen so he didn't pierce the heart while getting the fluid out, so he missed the eyeroll and storming off of the resident.

Trinity just hopes that he is actually going to get Walsh.

It was then that she noticed the burns running up the kid's arm.

"Uh, Dr. Abbot?"

"What is it Dr. Santos?"

"I think this kid was electrocuted. There are burns on his arms that look like power lines." She said, wiping away some of the blood to get a better look while still bagging him.

"Well, I'll be dammed. The reports didn't say anything about powerlines, but it certainly looks that way." He said, rounding the table and looking at the kid's arm.

Mason then started seizing just as Dr. Walsh walked into the room. The needle for the pericardiocentesis was still in masons' skin, luckily it was falling out rather than going in deeper.

"Jesus Christ!" She shouts as she pulls the needle out. The monitor starts beeping as mason stops seizing, showing asystole.

"Vivi, take over bagging from Santos, Santos come stand on my left side. You get to watch me do internal compressions." Walsh said with authority.

Trinity did as she said and came up to stand at Walsh's left side.

They did compressions for 20 minutes. For 20 minutes Walsh manually pumped masons' heart while they pushed epi, 20 minutes they fought to save this kid's life, yet in the end it didn't matter. The monitor still showed asystole. And you can't shock asystole back into rhythm.

"Call it." Abbot whispered.

"Time of death 8:39pm." Walsh said, checking her watch before lowering her head like she was praying.

"Take a few minutes, everyone. Get a coffee, get something to eat, clear your head." Abbot said before walking out of the room.

When Trinity slowly made her way out of the room Walsh was still standing there with her head down.

8:50pm

Trinity has been hiding in the stairwell for 10 minutes and has officially run out of tears to shed. Mason wasn't her first loss but for some unknown reason his death hit her harder than the others.

That's how Ellis found her, sitting on the stairs between the 2nd and 3rd floor.

"Jack told me what happened. You did everything you could." She said, sitting down next to Trinity and pulling a pack of slightly crushed zebra cakes out of her pocket. "Sugar always makes me feel better."

"Does it get easier?" Trinity asked.

"Losing people? No. Was this your first loss?" Ellis asked around a bite of zebra cake.

"No. that's why I'm so confused on why I'm acting like this."

"I'd be more worried if you were completely unaffected. That's when you want to worry."

"I just…I just keep thinking back and running through different scenarios on what I could have done differently. If I did something differently maybe he'd still be alive." Trinity said through another wave of tears.

"Maybe. Or maybe not. A wise woman once told me, back when I was a baby doctor, that to look back and think about the 'what if' scenarios is both an act of selfishness and an act of selflessness. Because we die twice. Once when we leave the mortal world and once when are names are no longer spoken." Ellis said, finishing her zebra cake. "Now, finish your cake. We have a shift to finish and people to save."

9:13pm

Her next patient that night was a pregnant woman who was in labor and having symptoms of preeclampsia.

"This is Charlotte Taylor. she's 34 weeks pregnant and went into preterm labor while cleaning her kitchen. BP is 145/97. she's been complaining of blurred vision and shortness of breath. Contractions are 5 minutes apart." The medic said.

All of those symptoms together, along with the preterm labor could mean nothing. But it also could mean preeclampsia.

"Hi Charlotte. I'm Dr. Santos and this is Dr. Shen. Is this your first child?" She said, guiding the gurney into central 5.

"On my count. One, two, three."

Charlotte gasped as they transferred her from the gurney to the bed. "No. Thi…this is my third."

Trinity smiled. "Page OB." She said to one of the nurses, who she kept forgetting the names of.

"Could I have all female doctors? Nothing against you but I've had some bad experiences with male doctors during my first two pregnancies." Charlotte asks between contractions, which were now three minutes apart.

"Of course." Shen smiled, Turing back to Trinity. "I'll go swap with Ellis."

It was not parker who walked into the room. It was Walsh who walked in while Trinity was placing the fetal heart monitors.

"Dr. Walsh? This isn't a surgery case? Where's Ellis?" Trinity asked.

"Surgery? Am I going to need a c-section?!" Charlotte asked in mild hysterics.

"No, you are not going to need surgery." Walsh said to Charlotte before saying to Trinity. "Ellis got stuck with a concussed drunk high schooler. So she went to change which means you get me for a few minutes."

"Ah." Trinity said in realization. Drunk highschoolers were the worse. They all threw up eventually.

Charlotte gasped again as a puddle of water appeared on the bed. "Are you qualified for this?"

"I was thinking about going into obstetrics before I found a love for surgery. And I have 2 of my own." Walsh smiled at charlotte.

Lena, the night shift charge nurse, poked her head into the room. "OB has an influx of patients. it's going to be a minute until they get down here."

Trinity heard Walsh mumble curses under her breath but before she could say anything Charlotte passed out and her BP started tanking.

"Shit! Charlotte?! Charlotte, honey open your eyes!" Walsh called, rubbing her knuckles hard across charlottes sternum.

"Baby's heartrate isn't looking good. Prep for a crash c-section!" one of the nurses, Vivi she thinks, did just that.

By the time Walsh made the first incision, because while Trinity was confident in her abilities she wasn't going to attempt a crash c-section when a trained surgeon was in the room, Charlotte's legs were covered in blood.

"Ok, she had a placental abruption. Based on the amount of blood I'm going to guess it's a total abruption. Dr. Santos? Trinity? Dr. Santos?!" Walsh yelled. Trinity had apparently zoned out.

"Yes?"

"When I cut the cord, your main priority is the baby. Understood?" Walsh said, cutting through the seven layers to get to the baby.

"Understood." Trinity said, coming up to stand next to Walsh.

The baby was a girl. And she was tiny. When Walsh cut the cord Trinity instantly took the baby and placed her in the warmer while she cleared her airway. The baby only weighed 4 pounds 3 oz and was only 16 inches tall. It pulled at her heartstrings a bit that charlotte wasn't awake to see her girl. Trinity was pulled out of her thoughts by Walsh's voice.

"Bleedings controlled. Pack her up and send her to OR 4."

"You're taking her to surgery?" Trinity asked.

"She ruptured her uterus. The bleeding is controlled for now but I need to do a hysterectomy to stop it fully." Walsh said, looking down at the baby. "Keep an eye on the baby, Nicu will take her tomorrow morning. I'll find you when I'm done."

11:56pm

In the two hours—almost three— that Walsh was in the OR Trinity had stitched up 5 people, given banana bags to 3, and is currently monitoring an elderly woman who's waiting for ortho.

Charlotte's baby was completely healthy 34 weeker. Her lungs needed a little help, but that was an easy fix by giving her a teeny tiny oxygen mask. Trinty had been checking on her every ten minutes, as were the other nightcrawlers. By the time Walsh had found her, Trinity was sitting in a chair, leaning over the bassinet with a hand on the baby's stomach.

"Charlotte's out of surgery. She'll be awake by lunch tomorrow." She said, closing the door and walking behind Trinity to look at the baby. "You're good with her. From what I hear you're good with kids in general. You ever consider peds?"

"I did at one point but I like the ED."

"Well, for what it's worth I think you'd do great in peds and you're doing great in the ED. If you made the call for a crash c-section even a minute later there's a chance neither of them will be here right now." Walsh said, turning towards the door. "Take a breather. Charlotte's husband will be here in a few hours; he is on a plane right now."

It was silent for a minute, the only noise was the monitor, when Trinity spoke, just as Walsh reached for the door handle. "Does it get easier? The peds cases?"

"Not really. Having a child is like watching a piece of your heartbeat outside of your chest and hoping the world is kind to it. We see people on their worst days, grieving days. It doesn't get easier, but you learn to cope with it. And remember that the sun still shines after the darkest days." Walsh whispered before disappearing back into the hustle of the ED.

12:30am

A bus carrying 30 9th graders heading to an overnight camp collided with a semi on the interstate. The semi flipped and t-boned the side of the bus. Luckily the semi hit a relatively empty part of the bus so most of the kids only had minor injuries. However, a hand full of them need immediate attention.

"14-year-old Arlie Sinclair. She was sleeping against the window when the bus crashed. BP is stable but on the low side. Compound fracture to the left leg and probable broken ribs on her left side." The medic, the same one who brought Charlotte in earlier, said as he wheeled Arlie into one of the trauma bay.

"Arlie? Sweetheart, can you hear me?" Trinity asked.

"Yeah. My leg hurts." Arlie whispered.

"We'll get you some pain meds." Trinity smiled, turning to the medic. "What meds did you give her?"

"2 of morphine."

"Uh, Tyler. Could you push 2 more of morphine, please?"

"You got it boss." The nurse smiled.

"What do we have?" Dr. Abbot asked walking into the room.

"This is Arlie. She has a compound fracture and probable broken ribs."

"Hi Arlie, my name is Dr. Abbot. We're gonna fix you right up, just hang in there."

The doors opened again to reveal the surgical resident from earlier. Still as snobby as ever.

"Ah, compound fractures. My favorite." He said as he pulled on the Arlie's ankle to set the fracture.

Except, seeing as Arlie had just been moved to the bed from the gurney, the wound hadn't been cleaned, and Arlie hadn't been given any anesthesia.

Park the Shark, of all people, walked in just as Arlie released a pained shriek. Park was covering for the night shift ortho attending it seems.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" He asked in a growl, just as Emery walked into the room.

"What the hell? Trevor, what did you do." Walsh asked, her tone sounding more like a demand.

"Ortho was taking too long so I did what any good surgeon would do and set the fracture myself. You do know what I'm talking about right?" Trevor, apparently, snarked.

Abbot glared at Trevor's back and looked ready to run him through with a scalpel while Park on the other hand look amused.

"Go home, Trevor. You're done here." Walsh said in tone that made chills run down Trinity's back.

"Sorry sweetheart. I don't take orders from you." Trevor has a death wish it seems.

Walsh heaved a sigh, like she has done this before, and spoke. "Actually, I do. I'm the attending and you are a first-year resident. So, by experience and rank, I give the orders."

Trevor looked to Park, like he was waiting for park to vouch for him and was met with the most deadpan expression trinity had ever seen on a living person. Trevor then stormed out of the room like a toddler throwing a tantrum.

Once he was gone the actual surgeons got to work.

"Arlie, I'm going to have one of the nurses give you something to knock you out so you won't feel anything, ok?" Park told the girl, getting a nod in return. "Push it."

"Jesus Christ, Emery. Are all your students like that?" Park asked with a laugh.

"First of all. You were almost as bad. Granted you didn't set a dirty break, but you were an arrogant asshole. Second of all he's not mine, he's just on his night shift rotation so he became my problem. Third of all. His daddy is some big shot neurosurgeon at mass gen, and he thinks that means he can trample all over female authority figures." Walsh said, putting in a chest tube. One of Arlie's ribs punctured her lung when Trevor pulled her ankle.

"Oh, so he's just an asshole then." Trinity said before her filter could catch it.

Park just stared at her while Walsh laughed. "Pretty much."

"We'll clean this out and set it properly in the OR." Park said, guiding the bed out of the room.

"God, I hate misogynistic assholes." Walsh said, stripping her gloves.

2:09am

Roughly halfway through her shift, Shen ordered coffee again. from Dunkin obviously.

There was a—knock on wood— peaceful lull in patients and she was getting caught up on some charts while Shen sat a few feet away, sipping on his coffee and scrolling on his phone.

The father of one of her patients, a six-year-old boy named Emrys who fell of his bunk bed and clipped his chin on a nearby bookshelf on his way down, came storming out of the room and started yelling.

"Excuse me! This is taking forever! My son is tired and you all are just sitting on your asses doing nothing!" The father, she thinks his name is Mark, yells while storming up to central and leaning over the desk to get into Trinity's face.

Before she could say anything, a hand is placed firmly on the man's shoulder.

"I'm going to have to ask you to step. back." Shen said, calm but firm.

The man did yet he kept shouting. "My son only has a cut on his chin that has been stitched! I don't know why were still here! She's clearly not doing anything!"

The man's yelling woke up Charlotte's baby who was sleeping in peds waiting for the Nicu to take her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Abbot slip into peds and Ellis walking up behind the man.

"She's charting. A very important part of being a doctor. We are waiting for your son's CT results to rule out a concussion or God forbid something worse. So go back to your son and be patient. If you yell at one of my staff again, I will have you escorted out by security." Shen told the father in a tone that she had never heard him use before.

The father did go back to his son's room, not before glaring at Trinity though. Shen returned back to his coffee and turned to trinity. "I'm taking over that case. I will not subject you to a man like that if I can help it."

"Really its fine. He didn't even call me a bitch so all in all that was a better experience." She said, going back to charting.

"You get yelled at a lot on days?" Ellis, who trinity forgot was nearby, asked.

"Yeah. Sometimes not by patients." She whispered. Because she was focusing on the keyboard, she missed the looks that Ellis and Shen shared over her head.

"Be that as it may. I'm pulling rank. I'll even give you one of my cases. 5-year-old girl with 2nd degree burns on her hands from pulling down the tea kettle from the stove. Her mom is worried sick."

Trinity was too tired to try and argue, she was already halfway through her shift, so she just took the chart and walked away to the sound of Shen and Ellis whispering.

3:30am

"Santos, with me." Abbot called as he walked past central.

They ended up in south 7 where an older man, late 60's if she had to wager a guess, who was sitting propped against the pillow with a prosthetic arm resting in the bedside table.

"Alright, Mr. Cory, I'm back. This is Dr. Santos, a 1st year resident. Is it alright if she observes?" Abbot asked.

"I've been poked and prodded my entire life. The more the merrier." Mr. Cory laughed.

Abbot smiled. "Why don't you start by telling us what happened."

"Insomnia is a bitch so I got up and went to make a tea that my daughter sent me, it supposedly helps you sleep, and I took the corner to sharp and ran into the wall right on the edge with the seam of my prosthetic. This is the aftermath." He said, lifting his bloody arm.

"Ah, been there done that." Abbot said, lifting his pant leg to show off his own prosthetic.

"How'd you lose it?"

Trinity decided to keep quiet. She loved learning about people, mostly for blackmail, but still.

"I was in the army. Lost it on my third tour." Abbot smiled, reminiscing. "That's how I met my wife so it's not all bad."

Trinity smiled then. don't believe anything Huckleberry says but she's a sucker for fluffy romance novels.

"Yeah? How'd you meet, if you don't mind me asking." Mr. Cory asked.

"I met her on my second tour. I was doing triage outside when she started barking orders at people inside the tent. From the minute I heard her stand her own against the 6'6'' sergeant I was done for. She said, 'if you are going to try and order people around, you can do it away from where I'm trying to save lives.' And the sergeant backed off." Abbot laughed. "Imagine my surprise when I walked into the tent and see this woman, who is 5'4'' mind you, staring down my sergeant while wrist deep in some guy's abdomen."

"Sounds like love at first sight." Mr. Cory commented.

"Well, for me it was. But she hated my guts for the first 6 months. But she got over it. We've been married 15 years." Abbot said as he stitched up the wound.

They were interrupted by a knock on the door. It was Walsh.

"Speak of the devil and she shall appear." Abbot whispered to Mr. Cory.

Walsh paused. "You talking shit about me?" She asked with a smile.

"Why, of course."

Walsh smiled and turned back to Trinity. "NICU is here if you want to do one last check on Charlotte's girl."

And so, she did.

Charlotte's little girl was already looking better, even in the few short hours after her unexpected arrival.

The Nicu nurse, a pretty blonde woman, was messing with the monitor when Trinity walked in.

"Hi. You must be Santos." The blonde woman smiled. "I'm Davina."

"Hello. I just came to say goodbye to the baby." She said, leaning over the bassinet while Davina walked to the other side of the room. "You, dear girl, are a fighter. you'll achieve great things."

Davina paused. "You're more than welcome to walk her up if you want."

And Trinity did. By the time she made it back down to the ED it was, knock on wood, oddly calm again.

4:05am

4am was sacred according to Ellis and Shen. When she asked Abbot about it, he just chuckled.

"So why is 4am 'sacred' again?" She asked.

"It just is." Shen said, finishing off his coffee.

Both he and Ellis were facing the ambulance bay doors, watching, waiting for something.

Just then, Abbot walked through the bay doors carrying two paper bags. On the bags written in blue swirly letters was the name of a nearby cafe.

"Alright, you vultures. Have at it." He said pulling out a box out of one of the bags and setting aside.

"What is this? I didn't realize anything was open at this time." Trinity said as Ellis handed her a croissant.

"Cause nothing worth your money is. An old friend of mine owns the place and will give us the day-old stuff instead of throwing them away." Abbot smiled.

Walsh, in an odd sense of deja vu, reaches from behind Trinity to grab the box.

"What up, weirdos." She laughed, jumping up onto the counter.

"You're the weirdo." Ellis retorted around a bite of scone.

"Don't fill up on those. We're still going to Bridie's after shift." Abbot gently scolded from where he was leaning against the counter next to Walsh.

"Birdie's?"

"A diner a few blocks from here. We get breakfast there a few times a week." Shen told her. "you're coming, right?"

"Uh, I don't know if I'll be awake enough for that." Trinity said, pulling up a chart.

"We'll see."

6:07am

An hour. that's how long she spent with this patient because the girl's mom had googled it and apparently thought her daughter had tuberculosis. The girl didn't, to be clear, she just had a rough case of the flu. She also only had an hour left on her shift. One more glorious hour before she can fall into bed and forget the world.

But the fates have it out for her apparently. That or Shen jinxed it again.

Some idiot brought fireworks to the early bird church service. and now she had to deal with burns and angry senior citizens.

Currently, she was working on the idiot with the fireworks. Said idiot was holding the firework when it went off which led to him blowing his hand off and shrapnel all over him. luckily the worst of it was his hand and the shrapnel, by some miracle, only resulted in superficial damage.

Walsh and Abbot were arguing again. About the amputation of the kid's, cause he's like 20, hand. Walsh wants to amputate immediately and Abbot wants to wait. If you asked Trinity she'd agree with Walsh.

"Emery. He's 20. He has his whole life ahead of him. don't make him do it without a hand." Abbot pleaded, using Walsh's first name.

"If I don't amputate it, he will die. There is no saving the hand and if we wait any longer, he will lose more than a hand. Jack, I know you don't want to do this but it's life over limb. It always has been and always will be." Walsh said, softer than she ever heard her.

There was defiantly a story there.

It seems that whatever Walsh was referencing drained all the fight from Abbot and he gently pulled Trinity out of the room just as the transport team filed in to bring him up to the OR.

"There's defiantly a story there right?" She asked as he continued to walk her over to the nurse's station.

"Yep, but not one I'm telling you quite yet." Jack smiled before being pulled onto another case.

7:10am

Dayshift had started to roll in 20 minutes ago and trinity hasn't been so happy to see Huckleberry.

"You look dead on your feet." Huckleberry said, tossing her the house keys.

"I feel dead on my feet." She mumbled in return. "Goodnight and have a lovely shift."

She heard his squeak of protest as she walked to the locker room and smiled to herself. It was there she found Ellis, dressed in sweats and a tank top, typing on her phone.

"Oh, good. You didn't get lost." She joked as trinity pulled her bag from her locker and changed.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." That got a smile out of Ellis.

"Come on." She said after Trinity finished changing, guiding her out of the hospital with a hand on the small of her back. Trinity was too tired to argue.

Ellis led her out to a light blue range rover, like the ones that rich housewives drive, and gently pushed her in.

In the car was Walsh, Abbot, and Shen. Walsh in the driver seat, Abbot in the passenger seat messing with the radio, and Shen was sitting behind Abbot leaning over his seat also trying to mess with the radio.

Trinity was sitting between Shen and Ellis, who climbed in behind her and shut the door.

"We're all here?" Walsh asked, turning the key over in the ignition.

"Yes ma'am." Shen said with full sincerity.

"Well then, let's get going."

Trinity doesn't remember any of the drive, having fallen asleep 30 seconds after they left the garage, and was woken up by Ellis as they pulled up in front of a little mom and pop diner.

"What are we doing here?" She asked, getting out of the car and popping her back.

"Breakfast." Jack smiled, pulling Emery into the restaurant by the hand.

"Wait, what about my car?" She asked, finally realizing Ellis had practically kidnapped her.

"We'll drop you off at home and then pick you up for tonight's shift. You can drive it home tomorrow." Ellis said as Shen opened the door for them.

Trinity could admit it was a very cute diner. Vintage booths and checkered floors complete with an old jukebox in the corner that was softly playing music.

Parker pushed her into the booth and then slid in next to her while Shen slid into the booth on the other side. Walsh and Abbot showed up around, Abbot sitting next to Shen while Walsh was next to Ellis.

After they ordered food, Trinity spent the next 30 minutes listening to nightshift gossip. She now knew that one of the nurses cheated on her husband with a radiology tech, but her husband also cheated. with the same radiology tech. Park was apparently doing two weeks of nights in exchange for the nightshift ortho attending to take two weeks of days next month so he can take his new girlfriend on a vacation to the Maldives. And that Trevor, the misogynistic resident from earlier, only got a spot at PTMC because his daddy paid his way in.

She felt warm and fuzzy for some reason. Is this what proper team relationships felt like?

"So... Why do you guys go to breakfast after shift?" She asked around a bite of some of the best pancakes she's ever had.

"Builds moral. also, because no one wants to cook after a 12-hour shift." Abbot said, stealing a piece of bacon off Ellis's plate while she just tsked at him.

"Why can't dayshift be like this." Trinity said, mostly to herself.

Though it seems that the table heard her anyway because Walsh responded. "Because dayshift can't regulate their emotions at all." She paused. "well, most of them can't."

"And you can?" Shen asked with a giggle.

"Hell of a lot better than they can that's for sure."

The waitress stopped by and dropped off the check and Trinity went to pull her wallet out to pay for her food. Parker noticed and gently pushed her hand back down. "Emery and Jack pay. it's their treat."

By the time they all piled back into the car the sun was peeking through the clouds, and she felt like she could sleep 4 days. But she was warm and full so she couldn't really complain.

8:00am

She somehow made it up to her apartment without dropping anything which is an accomplishment in her book. She had just showered and gotten comfy in bed when her phone lit up with a text.

nightcrawlers (the Cullens)

abbot: you survived your first nightshift, santos. welcome to the weirdest and the wildest.

ellis: that was kinda cheesy old man.

Trinity put her phone down and closed her eyes, falling asleep with a soft smile of her face.

She still hated nightshift but maybe, just maybe, the people made them better.
