When you had been diagnosed with two lifelong, chronic illnesses your first year in high school, you had instantly shifted your plans. Away from grand aspirations, away from long-term plans, and into reality. Ever practical, you channeled your focus into things you knew would help down the line, even if it's not fun now. Learned how to mitigate. Learned how to work with it, day in and day out.
And then a bunch of turtles get into a fight right outside your window, and suddenly the exhausting life path laid out before you looks a little more interesting.
This is my love letter to the chronically ill people in the TMNT fandom.
