Work Text:
"I don't think I can do this," Harry said. "It feels too soon."
"You've had months to prepare," Sophie said. "Plus, this isn't your big day, it's Becky's and she wants you there. You only graduate high school once. You're supporting her."
"I'm not ready for my little girl to be graduating," he replied, the sadness clear in his voice. "It feels like yesterday that she was starting kindergarten."
Sophie rested a hand on his shoulder. It was almost pathetic how sad he looked, and would have been if she didn't understand how it felt to watch as a child grew up and flourished.
"They do grow up awfully fast," she said. "But it is also one of the joys, getting to see them become a person all their own and become someone amazing."
"How am I supposed to go and not cry when she's up there walking across the stage?"
"You're not. You cry and everyone knows it's because of how proud you are. If you don't you either are too happy to, or don't care."
"I know."
"And Becky won't be embarrassed no matter what you do, she will just be overjoyed that you are there with her."
