    Percy's heart squeezes in her chest. "I was rounding up, Wise Girl," she counters, but she knows her tone is too soft to sound even like she's teasing.

    "Yeah." Annabeth's eyes rake over her face, like she's making sure Percy's still the same person she was thirty seven days, fifteen hours and forty eight minutes ago. "I know." She pauses. "I really missed you, Percy."

    Percy should return the sentiment. It wasn't like it wasn't true. She had missed her too. Terribly. Like a phantom limb. But it won't sound the same, coming from her.

    Annabeth had missed her like anyone would miss their best friend of seven years. Platonically. Heterosexually.
