Summary
The Hinterlands mission was supposed to be a routine one: mark out some watchtowers, fight a few wolves, run away from a bear or five... But the Inquisitor almost died the last time she was out traipsing around, and the Commander thought it better if he went along to supervise. She's the only one in Thedas that can close rifts, after all.
Their day started innocently enough with some bickering over firewood, but it ended a little differently: a torrential downpour, a mudslide, and a near-miss with a Venatori ambush.
Stranded in an abandoned cabin while a storm rages around them, Ella quickly learns that Cullen takes her safety very seriously and it turns out his restraint is a rather fragile thing.
And when it breaks? He doesn't just ask for her, he claims her. (Though obviously he asks first. He's still Cullen, after all).
(Or: An Alternate-Timeline, Pre-Confession AU where they get separated in the Hinterlands, the Commander gets very growly, and the Inquisitor realizes she really likes being pinned against surfaces).
