Work Text:
“Hey, Gabe.” Sam went into the library, where Gabriel was sitting, reading a book upside down on the sofa.
“Good morning, Samsquatch.”
Unlike other times, Sam smiled at the nickname. It didn’t annoy him as much as it used to. In fact, he sort of enjoyed it every time Gabriel came up with a new one. He sat down next to his boyfriend, who instantly moved positions so he was laying with his head on Sam’s lap.
“What are you reading?” Sam asked, staring down at his ex-archangelic partner.
“A book.” Gabriel said.
“Very descriptive.”
“I know.” He rested his book down on his chest so he could look at Sam properly. “What’s up?”
“Nothing. Just wanted to spend time with you.” Sam shrugged.
“How sweet.” Gabriel moved his book - Hansel and Gretel - onto the nearest flat surface, which happened to be on Sam’s laptop. Usually, Sam would protest and make a scene if anyone touched his precious laptop, but it was different. It was Gabriel.
Sam began to run his fingers through his boyfriend’s hair while he stared up at the sitting man. It was a nice, comfortable silence for a while. Dean and Cas were apparently on a hunt, but, as Gabriel said and Sam silently agreed, that was probably just cover for a date. What made it especially obvious was that they didn’t even tell the others what said hunt was.
“I have a present for you.” Sam remembered after a while.
“What is it?” Gabriel sat up and held his face close to Sam’s.
“Hold on. I’ll go get it. You stay here.” Sam didn’t actually believe the ex-archangel would listen, especially since it concerned a present for himself, but he thought it was worth saying anyway. Just in case his boyfriend would actually listen, for once.
The present was in the kitchen, because of course it was. Sam got up off the sofa and made his way there, Gabriel in a not-so-secret pursuit. He always made it back to wherever he was supposed to be before Sam actually saw him, so he couldn’t actually be accused of anything.
This time, Gabriel was a lot slower to get back to the sofa, but Sam didn’t actually care that much. The two sat down almost at the same time, and Sam gave his boyfriend the present. It was a large box wrapped up in green wrapping paper, which Gabriel ripped off instantly. He took the lid off the box and gasped in excitement. Inside, was a large variety of his favourite candies. Most of it was lollipops, since Sam noticed he loved them the most, but there was also some more, such as Reeses Pieces and milk chocolate balls with gooey melted chocolate inside.
"You.... Got me all this/" He asked in awe.
"Of course. You haven't seemed the happiest lately and I wanted to cheer you up." Sam said, blushing intensely.
"I love you so fucking much!" Gabriel squealed, placing the box gently on the floor before launching himself at his boyfriend and hugging him tightly. Sam didn't even think before hugging the ex-archangel back.
"I love you too."
"Marry me." The words were whispered in Sam's ear, making him tense. That was not what he was expecting.
"You- what?"
"I'm sorry. Is it too soon?" Gabriel asked shyly, and looked down at his feet.
"Hey, hey. No, I was just caught off guard. Of course I'll marry you. I love you so much." Sam said. He pulled his now fiancée into a hug, and then made the two of them lay back on the sofa until Gabriel was laying on top of him.
"Thank you so much." Gabriel whispered before he went off to sleep.
Dean and Cas came back home early in the morning, and when they found the two still asleep, Dean took a picture for later. He usually wasn't the type to do so, but he felt it was needed. He didn't even know they were engaged yet.
