Chapter Text
George Washington. He was your normal high school boy, except very kind and never spoke badly about anybody.
...
"You really just had to be such an idiot, didn't you?" Washington says quietly, whispering to his friend, George Frederick.
Frederick rolls his eyes, smiling as soft as he always does towards Washington.
"Well, sorry I'm not as perfect as you."
The two were always sat next to each other in this class, Honors Chemistry. It was their second period, so they were decently awake by this point. They also weren't tired yet. They were quite energetic this time of day.
They didn't choose their seats, it's just that Frederick was so good at Science in general that Washington always piggybacked off him. It made things easier.
The teacher was led to believe that they were simply, remarkably good partners together. So... She always sat them together, even if it were a new month or quarter in the school year, they always were together.
They only had two other classes together, (And one of them only happened twice a week.) so this time together was quite enjoyable for them, especially since they'd known each other for three years - they found themselves quite enjoying of each other's presence.
However, recently, Washington got a girlfriend. She had been flirting with him for about a week, which was unfortunately enough for her to build up the courage to ask him out.
He felt bad saying no, so he tried to seem as enthusiastic as he could when accepting her confession, but internally was so reluctant to this whole ordeal.
Washington only ever dated... Men. Not including a girl he was pressured to date for a month in Junior High.
So this was weird to him.
He tried pleasing her throughout their relationship but - spoiler - they never even really held hands.
Sorry, Martha.
Washington leans his head against his hand, his elbow propped up on the table both him and Frederick are sat at. A movie about... Rockets? Or something? -Plays as they sit quietly; the room dark - disregarding the bright screen illuminating the room gently.
The two Georges happen to have similar interests, too. Frederick had just gotten into this show that Washington has been watching since its release.
Frederick had been making silly attempts at drawing his favorite character, showing them to Washington enthusiastically whenever he'd make a new drawing.
This might've just been the first or second step to... Washington falling in love with Frederick.
He can't have been sure.
Washington had grown quite fond of Frederick, not ever noticing.
If he did, he'd have just brushed it off as platonic adoration.
Washington has received a drawing of his own favorite character from Frederick, and he could tell it had a lot of effort put into it.
At that point, he'd already been dragged happily with the shining smile of the man he can't help but adore; into a field of golden and luxuriously fragrant flowers.
The beauty of that field was miles away from the beauty of Frederick's face, but it was remarkably stunning, especially considering it was fabricated in Washington's mind.
Washington hid the drawing in a folder he carried with him throughout the day. "I'll hang it on my wall." A whispered promise left his lips. He couldn't quite notice it with how absorbed he was in admiring the fact that Frederick made something just for him; but anyone paying tons of attention would've seen the subtle red rise to Frederick's face. "O- Okay." He said quietly, his eyes lingering on Washington before he returned his gaze to the screen, playing a surprisingly interesting movie.
Despite it being only about rockets and the friends who made them.
~
They seem quite close. However, that's mainly just this class.
In the one class they had before Honors Chemistry, they sat next to each other, since they had the same role in this class. They spoke and laughed discreetly together, and it was a subject they were both so engrossed in that it was another reason Washington fell.
In the one class they had after Honors Chemistry, it was almost the same subject as the one before their second period, but they didn't sit directly beside each other, only in close proximity.
This felt unfortunate for Washington, because he had to watch Frederick speak with someone he was closer with than Washington. Even though he's known Washington for a bit longer of time.
This someone was Samuel Seabury.
Washington hated to say he happened to be jealous of such a kind person.
Seabury was quite nice to everyone, including Washington.
This infuriated him.
Though, he never expressed this to anyone except friends who had really no relation to Seabury - or who also despised him.
Actually- pause. No, Washington didn't despise Seabury. He just hates how much easily close Seabury is with Frederick than Washington. They see each other outside of school so much more often than Washington does with Frederick... It's more saddening than anything.
Washington fantasizes almost innocently about Frederick.
But sometimes his thoughts trail off accidentally and he thinks of what he could do if Frederick was vulnerable in his arms, guard down, and...
He loved Frederick.
He couldn't help it, Frederick was almost as addictive as Cigarettes.
