Chapter Text
"You think I'll drink it just 'cause you call me chicken?" Chandler says in response to JD's remark.
JD hands the mug to Veronica, then he says, "No, no, of course not, I just knew you were a chicken."
Chandler scoffs, then says, "Fine. I'll drink it. Only if you take a sip first."
Before JD can say anything, Veronica cuts in with "Sure, I can do that."
JD's heart drops as he watches Veronica take a sip of the drain cleaner.
The quiet in the room is broken by Veronica choking.
She coughs as a dark blue mixed with a bit of blood liquid sputters out of her mouth.
She falls forward, collapsing into a glass table.
glass going everywhere as she does.
Chandler stares at the now dead body in horror, then yells, "What the fuck was in that cup!?!?"
JD steps back from the glass and then says, "It was just orange juice. She was probably allergic to it or something."
Chandler's eyes drift to him, and she says, "Last time I checked its called orange juice because it's orange. NOT BLUE"
JD quickly pulls his gun out of his coat's pocket.
"You're not going to tell a soul about this, or you're dead too. now help me chop up her body, we can like blend it up or something." JD says, his hands shaking slightly.
Chandler stares at him with wide eyes, then she says, "im not helping you with this. im calling the cops."
JD's grip on the gun tightens, then says, "I swear to god, I will shoot if you do not get up and help me get rid of the body right now."
Chandler's eyes drift to the dead body, then back at the gun.
"Fine. I'll help… what do you want me to do?" Chandler mumbles, also shaking now.
JD replies with "I need you to think. I had an idea for you, but it wouldn't work with her. You need to come up with an idea on how we can hide this from the cops."
Chandler sighs, then asks. "What was your idea? im sure I can make it work."
JD replies with "I was gonna make Veronica fake your suicide note, but y'know she's dead now."
Chandler swipes a pen off her desk and a piece of paper from her notebook.
"We can make that work. Let's sneak into her backyard and hang her on a tree later tonight. You think you could fake her handwriting?" Chandler says while staring at Veronica's body.
JD nods while saying, "no, i haven't seen anything she's written before."
Chandler replies with "of course… i can do it, just you go load her into the back of my car, and I'll drive there later tonight, make sure you don't get caught and don't flake on me." her tone shaky and worried.
JD gives a quick nod, then quickly picks up the body, then grabs the keys to Chandler's car. and then makes his way out to the front.
He quickly unlocks the car and jams the body into the trunk.
He slams the trunk shut and locks it.
He takes a breath, then heads back inside.
He tosses Chandler's keys onto the counter.
"I'm gonna head home now, uh, bye!" JD quickly shouts, then heads back outside.
He starts walking home.
Chandler stands in the doorway of her room and stares at the blood, glass, and whatever else came out of Veronica's mouth while she was dying, staining the carpet.
"Now, how do I clean this?" she mutters while staring at the mess.
She stands there staring at the mess for a moment, just thinking about the events.
She walks into the room and sits at her desk.
She grabs the pen and the paper again and starts writing.
After a while, she finishes the note and leaves it on her desk.
She gets up, walks over to her bed, then flops down.
She rolls onto her back and stares at the ceiling.
"I need to get a new table," she mutters, then rolls onto her side and faces the wall.
Later that night, JD walks to Chandler's house and finds her sitting in her car smoking.
He knocks on the partially rolled-down window.
"You ready?" JD asks, while pushing his hands into his pockets.
Chandler nods, then says, "Yeah. Get in the passenger."
JD nods, then gets in the passenger seat.
Chandler turns up the volume of the car radio. The song "girls just wanna have fun" by Madonna plays loudly.
Chandler nods her head to the song while driving to Veronica's house.
JD glances in the back seat, seeing a rope and a folding chair sitting on the seat.
"So, question, do you even know how to tie a noose?"
Chandler rolls her eyes and scoffs, then says, "Of course I do, im popular pretty girl, everyone like me knows how to tie a noose."
JD nods, then says, "Good. You tie the knot, and I'll hang her."
Chandler replies, "Good… you wanna get Dairy Queen after this?"
JD lets out a small sigh, then says, "Sure. Let's do it."
Chandler makes it to Veronica's house and pulls into the driveway.
"You get her body and carry it to the back," Chandler says while getting out of the car.
JD just nods and heads to the back of the car.
He opens the trunk and lifts the body up.
He holds her as he watches Chandler get the chair and rope out of the backseat.
The two make their way to Veronica's backyard.
They walk to the tree in the far back.
JD drops the body onto the floor as Chandler sets up the chair and steps onto it.
She tosses the rope over the branch and starts tying a noose.
While tying the noose, Chandler breaks the night silence with "Did you write the note?"
JD's gaze stays on Veronica's body as he responds.
"Yeah. I did," he mutters while taking the suicide note out of his pocket.
Chandler nods, then gets off the chair.
She swipes the note from JD.
"Alright. Hang her," Chandler says while reading over the note.
JD nods, then grabs Veronica.
He pulls himself and the body onto the chair.
He slides Veronica's head into the noose, then lets her body go, letting it hang limp.
Chandler slides the note into the pocket of Veronica's blazer.
JD hops off the chair, then kicks it over.
Chandler turns to him, her shoulders tense.
"Let's not talk about this… ever," Chandler mutters, then starts walking back to her car.
JD doesn't respond.
JD walked back home that night.
that Monday morning.
time:5:24 AM
chandler lies in bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to get the energy to pull herself out of bed.
after a minute or two, she finally gets up and walks into her bathroom.
she flicks on the light and walks in front of the sink and turns it on.
she splashes her face with water, trying to wake herself up.
she looks up at the mirror, jumping a bit as she sees Veronica standing behind her.
her mouth still dripping a mix of blood and drain cleaner, a shard of glass lodged in her cheek, and her shirt stained with blood and whatever she landed in after coughing it up.
"You're up early. trying to be on time for once?" Veronica says, mockingly.
Chandler quickly composes herself.
"shut up, sawyer. Just because you're… dead doesn't mean you can be a sarcastic asshole to me." Chandler says, trying to mask her guilt with confidence.
Veronica scoffs.
"And why am I dead?" Veronica mutters, her tone angry.
Chandler takes a sharp breath and turns to face Veronica.
"Just shut up. I didn't know what was in the stupid cup. I thought you spit in it or something." Chandler mutters, clenching her fists tightly.
Chandler exits the bathroom, slamming the door shut on her way out.
She takes a small breath, then walks to her closet and gets some clothes out.
She quickly gets changed, then she goes back to the bathroom to brush her hair and teeth.
She opens the door slowly and peeks in.
Veronica isn't there anymore.
She opens the door fully and walks in.
She brushes her teeth, trying not to look in the mirror just incase veronica tries to appear again, then does the same with her hair.
she exits the bathroom, and quickly grabs her purse off of her vanity's chair and exits her bedroom.
she exits her house while riffling through her purse for her keys.
she finds her keys and unlocks her car.
she gets in, tossing her bag on the passenger seat.
she starts the car and starts driving to McNamara's house.
she drives in silence, gripping the wheel nervously.
the smell of blood still lingered in the car, or at least chandler thought so, she wasn't sure if it was just her nose playing tricks on her.
she soon arrives at McNamara house, and parks in the driveway.
sees McNamara waiting outside on the front step.
chandler honks, then grabs her purse and tosses it into the back seat.
McNamara walks up to the car and opens the car door and gets in.
she shuts the door and buckles.
"morning, heather." chandler says, while pulling out of McNamara's driveway.
"Morning. how'd the party on Saturday go?" McNamara asks, while turning on the ac.
chandler tenses up and mutters "went fine. did some drinking, smoking, all that stuff. what about you? what'd you do?" chandler asks, trying to shift the topic.
McNamara doesn't notice how tense the other girl is.
"i watched the wizard of oz with heather. it was pretty good." McNamara says, her tone happy and cheerful.
McNamara clicks on the radio, the song "material girl" by Madonna plays.
McNamara hums along as the two drive to school.
the two arrive at westerburg, and see duke standing by the front talking to Mrs Fleming.
chandler quickly parks and grabs her bag from the back and exits the car.
Mrs Fleming has walked away by the time chandler and McNamara walked up to duke.
"what was that all about?" McNamara asks, putting her hand on dukes shoulder.
dukes eye shift to her and she replies with "i have no clue, she just walked up to me and told me she was sorry about my friends death, and some crap about how i could talk to her."
chandlers eyes widen slightly, and McNamara speaks again.
"who died?" mac questions.
duke shrugs,
"not sure. she didn't say, and i didn't get the chance to ask." duke responds, not caring to find out.
dukes eyes drift to chandler, who's oddly quiet.
"well, uh lets just go to class." duke says, the odd silence from chandler making her feel awkward.
McNamara nods and says "yeah, good idea."
the three part ways and they head to their separate classes.
chandler doesn't pay attention for most of the classes and just thinks about everything that happened.
then during her last class, english, she hears a voice. Veronica's voice.
"i used to love english, y'know, when i was alive." Veronica's voice appears in chandlers head.
chandler takes a sharp breath and tries to ignore veronica.
"c'mon, don't ignore me. you killed me the least you can do is pay a little attention to me. its not like you're paying attention to class." Veronica's voice echoes through chandlers head.
chandler lets out a quiet sigh and puts her head down on her desk.
she desperately tries to ignore veronica, but finds it impossible as the guilt from assisting with Veronica's death.
the voice in chandlers head eventually shuts up, but for the rest of that class chandlers mind is only filled with thoughts of veronica.
about how she would always pick up the phone no matter how late it was.
about how she was always writing or reading.
about how she'd help with reading whenever chandler would get stuck on a word or sentence.
about how jealous she'd get when she saw veronica talking to JD.
how soft her lips looked.
how pretty she was.
how she'd always have to squint when looking at stuff because she refused contacts and also refused to wear her monocle to school.
chandler zones out thinking about how she'd give anything to have one last chance to just talk with veronica. even if it was an argument, even if it was just throwing petty insults at each other.
she missed the useless arguments, she missed the late night phone calls. she missed veronica.
her thoughts are broken by the bell ringing.
as everyone collects there stuff chandler quickly exits the room.
she exits the school and quickly gets in her car.
her hands grip the steering wheel, even though the car isn't on.
she puts her head on her hands, tears welling up in her eyes.
she sobs loudly, her shoulders shaking with every loud sob.
she contentious to cry until she cant force out anymore tears.
by the end of that she starts her car and starts driving, not caring about the fact McNamara will have to ride with duke.
she makes it home relatively quickly, mainly due to speeding, and she storms inside slamming the front door and going to her room.
she walks over the blood stain on her carpet and sits on her bed.
she flops onto her side.
she stares at the carpet, remembering the lifeless body that was there just yesterday.
she stares for a moment then rolls onto her back and attempts to go back to sleep to avoid living the rest of the day
