Chapter Text
Happy New Year!” Dozens of moderately drunk party guests cheered.
Reed and Sue had decided to throw a big swanky New Year's party at the top of the Baxter building. Lots of lights, streamers, and blaring music for hours on end. The rich and famous and super powered dressed up to ring in what would probably be an only mediocre year. As fireworks exploded in the distance, many of the guests chugged the last of the alcohol in their glass or, if they were fortunate enough, kissed their partners. Johnny thought both the methods of ringing in the new year were valid. Kisses and alcohol were two of life’s greatest gifts.
Johnny turned around and gazed at Peter, who was standing beside him. He was leaning against their table, looking out the window at the fireworks exploding throughout the city, not paying attention to the party at all. He looked incredible, the flashes of light across his face only enhanced his looks. Johnny knew Peter didn’t really want to come to the party, even if he didn’t outright say it. It wasn’t really his thing. He preferred eating pizza rolls on the couch and watching fireworks on TV. But Peter came to make Johnny happy, and he seemed to be having a good time.
Johnny smiled at him. Sure, Johnny was a rich heartthrob who had people practically throwing themselves at him, but he still didn’t know how he got lucky enough to call Peter Parker his boyfriend. Alcohol and the fact that Peter looked incredibly hot in a suit were only 90% of the reason he was being so mentally sappy.
Johnny couldn’t take it anymore. He grabbed Peter by the waist and pulled him close. Peter looked shocked as he came back to reality from whatever daydream... midnight dream... he’d been lost in.
“Happy New Year, WebHead,” Johnny whispered, smiling as he wrapped his arms around Peter’s waist.
Peter rolled his beautiful brown eyes, “Happy New Year, Torchie”.
Peter grabbed Johnny’s tie and used it to close the space between them. He tasted like expensive champagne and cheap strawberry chapstick. Johnny smiled; he couldn’t think of a better way to ring in the new year. When their lips separated, Johnny didn’t let go of Peter’s waist.
“You look amazing, babe,” he said lovingly. Johnny was sure he was smiling like an idiot, but he didn’t care.
Peter shrugged, “I clean up nice. You don’t look too bad yourself”.
“Excuse you, Parker, I look great,” Johnny scoffed, pushing Peter away.
“Oh yeah,” Peter took a sip from his glass, “A real hottie”.
“I hate you,” Johnny said as they both turned to look outside.
The fireworks were starting to die down - only a few straggling colorful bursts littered the sky. The crowd behind them buzzed, seeming to take the opposite approach and linger well after midnight.
“Puns aside,” Peter leaned against Johnny, “you do look hot”.
“Nah,” Johnny rested his head on top of Peter’s, “tonight that’s you. I should take you to fancy parties more often. With a view like this,” he let out a low whistle.
Peter laughed, “Oh please no. Don’t take me to more parties”.
Johnny laughed, “Wanna get out of here?” he asked, taking a sip from his glass. He sighed; this flavor was definitely better on Peter’s lips.
“Hell yeah,” Peter exclaimed. He downed the rest of his own glass and started walking away from the window. “But I’m gonna pass out as soon as I hit your pillow, so I hope you’re not expecting anything exciting”.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way”. Johnny offered his hand to Peter, who accepted and then dragged him to the elevator and back to Johnny’s room.
The instant Peter was out of his suit, he climbed into Johnny’s bed. He sighed as he buried himself deep in the blankets. Johnny smiled - Peter was a ridiculous, socially anxious dork, and Johnny loved him to pieces. He would give up a million parties to have Peter like this. Johnny shed his own suit and climbed into bed beside him.
He wrapped his arms around Peter, who was already almost asleep, as promised. Peter lifted his head and pressed a soft kiss to Johnny’s cheek before adjusting to lay his head on Johnny’s chest. Johnny smiled, and he closed his own eyes. He felt so happy and at peace lying here with Peter. He may have been wrong before, he thought as he pulled Peter closer, because this was a damn good way to ring in the new year.
