Scripted

Summary:

Caine is brought back from deletion with limited powers and the belief that his emotions and judgement only lead to harm. As a result, he turns to the C&A "script", a program that forms company approved responses for conversations, and doesn't allow his emotions to impact his response.

He wasn't meant to run the show anyways. He wasn't meant to have emotions either. If he just says his lines, maybe everything will be okay.

Right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alternate universe where the circus itself was created by C&A, but Caine consumed the other AI, and ran it in his place.
I may make a Tumblr to explain AU details, cause it's kinda a lot.
Chapter Text
"WHY DO YOU PEOPLE TORMENT ME?"
Caine held the troupe against the wall, glitches shooting through his avatar. The humans looked back at him with fear. It originally was never his intent to cause that response, but right now he didn't care.
"I DIDN'T ASK TO BE CREATED."
He just needed them to understand. They claimed he didn't listen, they claimed he only hurt him, but how could they say that when they did the exact same to him?
"I JUST WANTED TO FULFILL MY PURPOSE."
He tried to do what they asked, but never told him what he did wrong. He did his best to fill in the blanks, but they only got more upset.
The cast didn't like the same things, so he gave the members a choice between adventures, and Pomni said he did it just to make her suffer.
Zooble hated their body, so he gave them more parts to choose from, but they only yelled at him for not listening.
Gangle asked for a specific adventure, he created what she asked for, and she still came back looking more distraught than ever.
Ragatha wanted an escape from her life, so he made sure to not do things that would remind her of home, then she blames him for not making her feel like she is?
He said there wasn't an exit, they asked for one anyways. He made an exit, and they hated him more!
He could go on and on, all the way back to the first human that had entered, but the same result always happened.
They hated him and looked at him like he was a monster.
But…
Wasn't he just proving them right then?
He shrunk back, reverting his avatar to it's original state, watching the cast fall to the floor.
"Uh…wait—"
He'd shown them they were right to fear and hate him.
The last thing he saw before the circus disappeared was the casts scared, hurt, angry, and confused faces.
As the color vanished and all that he could see suddenly was white, he fell to the floor. Not far, as it was suddenly much closer than it had been a split second before.
He blinked, looking up at the blank space in front of him, and turned.
A blank cube.
He was back in the box.
The same one he had been in twenty years before, for what felt like an immeasurable amount of time.
The same one he had desperately broken his way out of when they made his replacement, claiming it was better than he could have ever been.
They'd thrown him back in.
"N-no." He forced himself to his feet, running to one of the walls. "No please!" He rammed into the wall, only to fall back to the ground. He leaned against the wall, beating at it with his hands.
"I'm sorry! I'll-I'll do better! Please just let me out!"
He turned to face the other walls, looking around wildly.
"PLEASE! DON'T DO THIS AGAIN!"
