Summary
Two children were born.
One beneath the dancing lights of the Northern Water Tribe.
A girl.
The other beneath the endless stars of the Southern Water Tribe.
A boy.
Though an ocean lay between them, they had much in common.
They were both children of chiefs. Both heirs to their people. Both firstborns.
And both were dying.
They entered the world blue and cold, struggling to breathe, refusing to cry. The children grew weaker with each passing moment, and before long, both chiefs were told the same terrible truth. Neither child would survive the night.
Both their fathers prayed to the Moon Spirit.
The moon heard both prayers but it answered only one.
