Work Text:
Kate thought it was her eyes she loved first. That gorgeous hazel that could switch from cheerful, to challenging to threatening. This tiny woman could do so much with a simple glance in her direction. The first time she looked at her with want, Kate's knees almost gave out.
Yelena's eyes were shut right now.
"Lena?"
Yelena mumbled something in Russian, snuffled adorably and rolled away from her voice.
Kate took a 14th picture of her snoozing girlfriend. Sure, Yelena had yet to master sharing a bed (she starfished), but Kate couldn't feel too put out. (She was considering buying a double king anyway.)
How someone could feel annoyed with a beautiful badass in their bed, Kate didn't know. Nor did she care to. Those people sounded terrible.
It had taken a few tries to get to this moment. From Yelena not sleeping over at all ('I'm not ready'), to Yelena trying and leaving after a few hours ('I can't sleep'), to restless sleep ('I get bad dreams') to...
Well. Kate didn't know how to describe this.
Usually Yelena got up at 6am to train. Try as she might, her movements would briefly awaken her adoring girlfriend, who would never get up before 8 unless she had to. It was a clockwork act left over from her widow days. It didn't bug her, but it bugged Yelena.
"It's been years. I don't understand why I can't break some habits."
"Does every habit need breaking?" She immediately regretted how she phrased that.
"When it's from the room, yes."
Kate checked her phone and felt warmth spread through her chest.
9:06am.
Yelena pulled the quilt up to cover her shoulders. Kate had never seen her do that before. Her Russian girlfriend who said she never got cold, may, in fact, get cold. What a liar.
She kicked her slippers off and crawled back under the covers. She didn't have anything to do today. Except an assignment that she should have started last week.
The bed embraced her first, but Yelena's body, the softest, most carefree it had ever been, followed soon after. She felt her girlfriend's lips on her bicep, then the telltale light nibble. A favourite pastime in her waking life too. Kate kissed her hair, unable to angle down to her face and deeply unwilling to adjust herself to try. Like when a cat sits on you, you just have to stay goddamn still.
Then there came the warm, rough hand on her stomach, thumb rubbing just a bit. If Kate were artistically inclined, she'd write a poem about Yelena's hands. The tender caress, the strength, the surety. It was her hands Kate loved first, actually.
Kate figured she could probably just drop out of college again. Maybe take a sabbatical from the Young Avengers too. Whatever kept her in this moment.
Pfffffft.
Her eyes widened. Today had yet another milestone - she'd just heard her girlfriend fart.
Yelena blinked awake, rolled onto her back and raised herself on her forearms. "K'Beeshop?" Her voice was lower than Kate had ever heard it. Yelena squinted at her with those eyes. "Did you fart?"
She giggled, "uhhhh..."
"Oh."
"Yeah, it was y -"
"I slept in." Yelena looked down at her body, unbelieving, a light beamed from her smile. Kate decides it was the smile she loved first, definitely. "I slept in, Kate Bishop." Her palm wiped her eyes.
Kate had never seen that either.
She pulled her in for a kiss, morning breath be damned. She wouldn't even break the news that Yelena had woken herself up with her own fart.
They managed another 20 minutes in bed before the dogs decided they needed to get up.
That was alright. They could sleep in tomorrow.
