Post saving-the-world, Newt is dragged into a nightmare scenario. He wakes up, against the odds, but is not the same. To be fair, being possessed by a kaiju would mess anyone up...
Post Scunner's-death, Hermann attempts to do what he failed before - keep Newton safe, help him feel sane. To do this, he feels he must at least pretend to be alright. He fails at that, too.
In the aftermath, Newt stays awake for 4 days, terrified of sleep.
