Chapter Text
"You two fully comprehend the cost?" God says.
Crowley and Aziraphale turn to look at eachother. Their hands find their way together, and slowly slide into place, fingers gently interlocking. Aziraphales hand is warm, Crowley thinks to himself as he gazes into his deep blue eyes. He will miss that warmth. Aziraphales eyes sparkle with brimming tears, reflecting Crowley's own amber eyes. Aziraphales favourite colour. He will miss that gentle gaze, and how it always seemed to soften once it found him.
"We know what we're asking for," Crowley says, his voice wavering slightly, tightening his grip on Aziraphales shaking hand.
"Very well. I'll make it. I'll make the universe your way. I'll even let an earth happen. Eventually there'll be humans, and life, in all of it's.. mundane glory. Something that both of you will neither know nor experience however."
Crowley squeezes Aziraphale's hand even harder. A life without Aziraphale. No, not a life. He would die, they both would. A non-existence, an eternity of nothingness. Crowley was giving up his everything to give humanity another chance. He hoped it would be worth it.
"That doesn't matter," Aziraphale says, though the tremor in his voice betrays him. Crowley matters to him like the stars matter to the sky. Without him, he is dark, devoid of any light of happiness. Without Crowley, Aziraphale is nothing. So they both must go.
"Say goodbye then," God smiles. All good things must come to an end, and it is time for her favourite beings to finally part ways.
Time seems to stop as Aziraphale and Crowley turn to eachother once again, to see the faces they love the most for the final time. A sad smile is etched into Aziraphales face, tears finally falling as he takes Crowley's other hand. Crowley too, no longer able to keep his tangled mess of feelings bottled inside, begins to cry. Aziraphale reaches up, wiping the demons tears from his grief stricken face.
"Oh, Crowley," he sniffs, thumb gently caressing his tear-streaked face. "I will always love you. I always have." And he would love Crowley up until the very second they left his world, which was approaching all too soon.
Crowley's head is too loud. He's scared. Every unspoken word, declaration of love, everything he had wanted to say to Aziraphale but never had the chance to is racing through his mind. 6000 years with Aziraphale and there was still so much unsaid. 6000 years was not enough, for Aziraphale was worth an eternity. His dream of Alpha Centauri was long gone, crushed by the flames that has swallowed it's page in the book of life, eliminating his only hope. But right now, he is here, with the Angel he loves, saying the goodbyes he had never imagined he would have to say.
"Goodbye, Angel," Crowley chokes through his tears.
Aziraphale kisses his fingers, wet with Crowley's tears, and presses them gently to his trembling lips.
The edges of reality begin to flicker, as their bodies start to disintegrate. They do not look away from eachother as they start to fade away, for this is a sight they will never see again. 6000 years of love and this is how it ends. This was harder than they had imagined, they both realise. If only they could go back to how it used to be, back to the days when they could be freely together, so naiive and happy together, for what they thought would be forever. Who knew 6000 years could go by so quickly.
As the last of their bodies fade away, the world turns black, and is empty once more.

It is dark. It was like this at the beginning. An empty expanse of darkness, stretching through eternity.
And then, there is light. A collision, a bang, an explosion of light and colour.
And the Earth returns. But this time there is no heaven, no hell, no angels, and no demons. That is, however, expect for two.
Their bodies no longer exist, of course. However nearby, in an empty space in the sky (which could have perhaps once been the whereabouts of Alpha Centauri) some stars begin to form. They form slowly, over billions of years, but the shape they make is eventually clear. An angel and a demon, together in rest. But something awfully peculiar happens. After 13 billion years or so, the stars begin to move.

Crowley is dead. He is sure of that. So then why is he able to think? The space around him, though dark and glinting with stars, feels familiar, despite it's emptiness. He is in the sky. That must mean he is dead. No, no, dead people do not have consciousness, cannot question their surroundings. By some miracle, Crowley is alive. He can see, he realises, searching his surroundings with the eyes he is unsure he actually has, for he cannot seem to see his body. What is there instead, is an empty silhouette, outlined by the blinking of tiny white stars. Crowley is made of the stars. It is then that the demon realises he is not alone. A similar shape stands next to him, it's body too an animated outline of stars. Despite his unusual form, Crowley knows who this is.
"Aziraphale," He breathes, voice echoing through the emptiness of the infinite sky.
