Work Text:
When Tim and Bernard had started dating, they had a lot of long conversations about Tim’s other boyfriend, Conner. Tim had made it clear he had no intention of breaking up with Conner, that Conner was okay with Tim dating Bernard, too, and that he wanted them both to be sure that Bernard was okay with the polyamorous aspect of the relationship.
And he was. Okay with it, he means.
Bernard knew Tim was Red Robin, and he saw how well Red Robin worked with Superboy. It wouldn’t do Bernard any good if he tried to separate the two heroes from one another to pursue his love, and honestly he didn’t mind sharing his boyfriend.
There were just a couple of issues.
Firstly, Bernard knew Tim and Conner were Red Robin and Superboy. There was nothing wrong with knowing it, except for the fact that Tim seemed completely oblivious to the fact that he knew, and it was kind of annoying how Tim kept badly trying to hide their secret identities from Bernard.
Sure, the identity thing could be fixed with a good conversation but the second issue was more pressing.
Whenever Bernard saw Tim and Conner doing anything together, whether it be the Young Justice working together to prevent an apocalypse on the TV, or Conner kissing Tim while they’re all spending time together, Bernard grew incredibly jealous of Tim.
How come Tim gets to date Conner, and Bernard can’t?
Sue him, he finds Superboy hot.
But it’s just unfair that Tim gets to date them both, and Bernard and Conner aren’t also dating each other.
And that’s not something that a simple conversation can fix, he’s sure. Why would Conner even want to date him, when he’s already dating Tim? How could Superboy even find someone as ordinary as Bernard attractive?
Yeah, there’s no way Bernard could also date Conner.
Tim’s new boyfriend is an issue.
It’s nothing life-ending, it won’t cause the end of the earth, but it’s still important to him.
Kon sees them kiss whenever he drops Tim off from missions and dates, hears them spending time together, and feels in their presence how important they are to each other.
And that’d be fine, except.
Except Kon’s jealous.
How come Tim gets to kiss Bernard? How come Tim gets to sleep in the same bed with him? How come Tim gets to be all domestic with Bernard? How come Kon doesn’t get to do any of that?
Kon wants to have that, too.
Sue him, he finds Bernard hot.
Even though his family likes to joke about it, Tim isn’t oblivious to people’s feelings. He just has a hard time realizing when people are infatuated with him. He doesn’t, however, find it hard to notice Kon and Bernard’s crushes on one another.
“So, you have a crush on my other boyfriend?” he asks them both, separately.
Bernard’s response is, “Can you blame me? It’s Superboy!”
And Kon’s is, “Well, you have good taste in guys!”
A lot of scheming and planning and considering lead him to believe that leaving them alone in a room together for an extended period of time would be great, and lead them to talking to each other.
He’ll have to invite Kon in the next time he drops him off where Bernard is.
Kon thinks, since Tim is dating two people, he’d also be okay with his two boyfriends being closer.
When Tim gets him to drop him off at Bernard’s after a mission and immediately crashes, Kon decides to get to know his metamour a bit more. Sure, he knows the guy enough to already have a crush on him, but it isn’t really that much.
Bernard is funny. He’s cute, the food he offers Kon is better than anything he’s ever put in his mouth, and, to top it all off, he keeps complimenting Kon. His heartbeat picks up whenever Kon smiles at him, and Kon thinks there’s a possibility of making the V-shape of their relationship into a triangle.
He thinks there’s a possibility he’s not the only one of Tim’s partners infatuated with his metamour.
It’s not the first time Bernard is meeting Conner, not by a long shot, but it is the first time they’ve spent an extended amount of time with each other without Tim there.
It’d be heartwarming how fast Tim passed out once he was there if Bernard didn’t know how long he has to have been awake for that to happen.
So, it’s just Bernard and Conner in the room (not counting the unconscious lump of Tim in his bed) and it’s kind of awkward. That is, until Conner starts to ask him very obscure questions, varying from his favourite place he’s seen Tim keep coffee or passed out from sleep deprivation to guessing how Tim and Kon eventually got together.
It’s fun.
Conversation comes easy, Conner keeps smiling these pretty little smiles at him, that feel really flattering, and when Bernard offers him something to eat, the noises of approval and the compliments that keep streaming from his mouth are enough to make Bernard flush red.
It’s not really a conscious decision when Bernard finds himself in Conner’s personal space.
It’s not really a conscious decision when he responds to the press of Conner’s lips on his.
They’re making out against the wall when Tim wakes up.
It’s not really that Kon forgot he was there. He just had something better to remember.
The drowsy smile he feels rising onto his boyfriend’s face with his TTK is enough to let him keep going.
Robin always tends to plan ahead, and his plans are usually the most brilliant of them all.
The genius must’ve planned this from the beginning.
“So, I probably should’ve realized a little earlier than I did, that this was going to turn into a throuple,” he retorts from the bed.
“Yeah?” Kon asks. “We wanna make this a triad?”
Even though he’s focusing on the expression on Bernard’s face, the speed at which his heart is beating, he can feel the way Tim is nodding.
“Sale! Two for one!” Bernard laughs into the side of his neck.
He can’t do anything but join the laughter.
