Work Text:
"Mike." Will sighs, holding their crying daughter.
Mike looks up at him from the video game that he's playing and presses the pause button, setting the controller down next to him on the couch. "What's up?"
"Finley won't fall asleep, it's been so long and–"
Before he can even finish, Mike stands up from the couch and takes their daughter out of Will's arms, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "I've got her, love." He says, walking towards the nursery.
Already, Finley has started to calm down. Will can't blame her, he knows that Mike is the better one at calming other people down. On the other hand, Will still has trouble calming himself down from panic attacks or nightmares caused by PTSD. He's very grateful that Mike has always know how to take care of him.
He takes a deep breath, following his husband into the nursery, where he has already set their daughter down in the crib. She's stopped crying, but her breathing is still uneven. Mike's leaning over the crib at an angle where Will can't see what he's doing, but whatever it is, it's clearly working.
A few minutes later, Finley's cries have turned into soft snores, and Mike reaches a hand out to Will to pull him over. Together, they watch their sleeping child; a very adorable sight. This is something they never thought imaginable, but thank God for Dustin's science experiment that gave Mike and Will a biological daughter.
Eventually, Mike and Will head back to the living room, Will leaning against Mike as he continues his game, feeling like he could fall asleep at any moment.
"How'd you do that?" Will asks before he can forget.
"Do what?"
Will quickly realizes that he wasn't very specific. "How did you get her to fall asleep so quickly?" He corrects.
"Well, she's a lot like you," Mike explains, pressing a soft kiss on Will's head. "She falls asleep the same way as you."
Will looks up at his husband, very confused. "What do you mean?"
Mike pauses his game to explain, and turns himself to sit more comfortably. "I don't know how to explain it, but, like..." He trails off and strokes Will's nose with his finger, making his eyes flutter closed.
Now Will really does feel like he could fall asleep.
"Hey, wait, let's get to bed before you fall asleep on me." Mike says, turning the game off and standing up from the couch, letting Will lean against him as they walk through the hallway to their bedroom.
Will climbs into bed first, Mike immediately after him. Mike lays down and puts an arm around Will, moving just enough so that Will's head is resting on his chest. Then Mike strokes his nose again, and Will falls asleep almost instantly, but he doesn't snore like Finley, she definitely got that from Mike.
Mike smiles at the fact that his trick he's been using to help Will fall asleep since they were kids still works, even though so much has changed.
