A Perfect Performance - Blue x Yellow

Summary:

In order for Blue to perfect his ballet routine, he needs a dance partner to help him. Luckily, he knows just the cowboy for the job.

Notes:

This account is run by two authors, everything under the sun is made by two people who are madly in love! We really like gay people.

Yellow is written by Big K
Blue is written by Mr. Cool Guy

Each time the dots appear it means a new author is writing!

Work Text:

Blue felt his best when he was on stage, performing. Ballet encompassed nearly every aspect of his life—he lived to sway to the gentle melody on the tips of his feet, perform elegant pirouettes, and leap across the stage as the music grew to a crescendo. The flower loved to bask in the spotlight, envisioning a cheering audience in front of him.

Blue hummed to himself and gently eased out of the pirouette he had finished. He opened his eyes as he heard faint footsteps coming from the side of the stage.

“Hm? Who’s there?” the flower softly called out.

•••

Yellow had been feeling a bit off today. He missed his dear Blue! It had been so long (2 hours) since they had last seen each other!! Yellow got so bored sometimes when patrolling, since there was usually no one committing crimes or injustices much anymore.

When the cowboy saw Blue’s performance come to an end from behind the curtain, he shifted on his feet, feeling a bit shy. He took off his hat, brushing his hand through his hair before he slowly shuffled out from behind the safety of the curtain.

“Uh, uh.. howdy, Blue. That- that was a spectacular performance ya did there! Real good!” He complimented, fanning himself with his hat.

•••

Blue’s eyes lit up and his smile widened as he saw his darling enter. He blushed and clasped his hands behind his back at Yellow’s compliment. “Oh stop, you flatter me,” he chuckled and fanned himself with his hand.

He walked over to the cowboy and pressed a soft kiss against his cheek. “I’m so glad you enjoyed it darling. It’s a new routine I’m working on,” the flower explained. He stepped back to smooth down his periwinkle skirt.

•••

The cowboy’s face turned a bright vermillion at the feeling of his lover’s lips on his cheek. His shy smile spread into a dopey, love drunk grin, and he wrapped his arms around the ballerina tightly, rocking a bit.

“Oooohhhhh! Ya always make yer dances look great! I just think yer the perttiest darn thang ever!” He gushed, pressing kisses to the top of Blue’s head. He then let go of his darling, rocking on his heels which caused his spurs to jingle.

Yellow put his hat back on, avoiding eye contact now. “Uhm, I remember you talkin’ ‘bout.. uh.. how some dances have meaning.. or, uh.. stories behind ‘em.. what’s this story?” He asked, trying to put his little knowledge to use.

•••

Blue squealed in delight as Yellow peppered kisses against his head. He buried his face into his chest and smiled, the blush on his face growing brighter. “Ohhh, how sweet you are, my strong cowboy,” the ballerina drawled, squeezing Yellow’s bicep.

As Yellow asked about his performance, Blue smiled. He always loved the opportunity to share about his art!

“Ah, this one is meant to portray the divine elegance of flowers like us! Even if some believe they are not graceful, at the end of the day there is a special quality within flowers that grants them elegance. Some simply need to harness it more than others!” The flower explained. He did a little twirl as he concluded, his tutu ruffling.

“There…is a slight problem, though,” Blue murmured. “I need a second dancer! And I don’t know any other dancers! Oh Yellow, this performance won’t be perfect without a second ballerina…” Blue sniffled.

•••

Yellow nodded along when Blue was explaining the dance, but his brows raised when he uttered his plight. “Uhh, UH OH! Now dat’s no good, no siree! Uhhh..” He tapped his chin, tapping his foot against the wood of the stage.

“Well, I dunno any other ball’rinas ‘cept for you! I think uh.. I think.. I think Flowery might be good at dancin’.. n’ Aqua’s the nimble lil’ lady! Oh! Oh! I got it!” Yellow snapped his fingers.

“ASGORE! I bet he’ll dance with ya! Yknow, when he tells us stories, I can just imagine ‘em dancin’ and skippin’ around.” The cowboy chuckled.

•••

Blue hummed thoughtfully. “Well, Flowery might have the aesthetic but… I don’t think he’s much for dancing. And Aqua gets distracted quite easily,” the flower murmured. He chuckled at the mention of Asgore. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to disturb our King while he’s hard at work.”

Blue tapped his foot against the wooden stage. “Perhaps… Yellow, would you care to assist me?” he asked, looking up at the cowboy. He knew Yellow wasn’t one for ballet either, but he was always enthusiastic, and that’s a wonderful quality for a ballet partner.

•••

The lanky man pointed at himself in surprise, then glanced around the room. What if I trip over my own feet? What if I embarrass Blue?.. but if I don’t accept it, he’ll be disappointed! I’d be hurtin’ his feelin’s! That’d be criminal..

Yellow straightened his posture, then nodded. “O’ course, Blue! I’d be happy ta help!! Now.. err.. what do I do first?” He whispered loudly, leaning closer to Blue to make it look conspiratorial.

•••

Blue smiled and gently cupped Yellow’s face. “Don’t worry darling, it’s fairly simple. All you have to do is copy my moves until the finish I have in mind—that’s when you’ll need to lift me in the air and spin me as I pose,” Blue explained. “We can start off slowly so you can follow my steps easily,” he assured.

He took Yellow’s hand and led him to the center of the stage. He turned on the little speaker he had, and the classical music began to play again.

“Just like this, darling,” the ballerina instructed as he stepped into first position.

•••

Yellow looked Blue up and down as he started the performance. He quickly copied him, albeit he was a bit late, but that was normal for a first time. His brows furrowed in concentration, and with each new move the ballerina performed, the cowboy felt more and more lost.

How was he supposed to remember all of this? What if he messed up? What if he tripped?

When it came time for a spin, Yellow’s hat fell off, and he grunted. “Uh oh.” He said beneath his breath, then stopped the spin to pick it up. He then awkwardly resumed spinning. His was less of an elegant pirouette like Blue’s, and more just spinning in a circle on his tip-toes.

•••

Blue giggled softly as the cowboy’s hat flew off. He then continued his routine, making sure he wasn’t going to fast for Yellow. His pirouettes were slow, and he verbally warned Yellow when they were going to do a more complicated move, like a leap or jump.

When it came time for the finishing move, he walked over to Yellow and took his hands. The music continued to flow softly around them, almost engulfing the two in its melody.

“Alright, darling,” he began, tilting his head to look up at the flower. “You’ll put your hands on my waist, like this,” he said, guiding Yellow’s hands around his torso. “Then, lift me up.”

•••

“Uh, yes sir.” He nodded, then his face flushed as he realized where his hands were. He braced himself, muscles tensing as he then lifted up Blue. He understood that Blue likely meant lifting him above his head, but that would be a feat for anybody in general. Blue was made of muscle, muscle meant for grace and magnificence. Yellow was.. sorta noodley.

A bead of sweat rolled down the side of his face, and his knees started to lock. He then let out a strained growl, finally managing to bring Blue above his head. He felt proud of himself! He could make the ballerina’s vision come true and be a visual piece of art! (Not that Blue needed a dance to look absolutely wonderful)

•••

Blue exhaled softly as he was lifted in the air. He posed with his limbs stretched out, and guided Yellow to slowly spin around. The ballerina smiled to himself as Yellow gently moved them both. His routine was finally coming together! Even if he didn’t have the large audience he had always dreamed of, he still had Yellow and the other flowers who would appreciate his work. That was enough for him.

Eventually the music quieted down and Blue relaxed out of his position. “You can set me down now, dear,” he said to Yellow. Once he was on the ground again, he looked up at Yellow with a smile and blush across his cheeks.

“You did perfect, darling. Thank you for helping me.”

•••

Yellow was panting heavily, and he hunched over, hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. “I don’t… understand how… ya do this… on the regular.. darlin’..” He huffed, then slowly laid down on the floor, feeling his body decompress as his back was flat against the wood. He let out a sigh of relief, then took his hat and began to fan himself.

“I respect what ya do, Blue. Whoooweee, if ya ain’t the strongest flower I ever did see..” The cowboy grinned up at the ballerina.

•••

Blue crouched down to his level and chuckled. “It’s all about practice and consistency, darling,” he said softly, stroking Yellow’s hair. He blushed at the cowboy’s compliment, shifting to sit beside him where he was sprawled out. “You did wonderfully for your first time,” the flower praised.

After a few moments he gently pulled Yellow to sit up. “Oh goodness, I didn’t tire you out too much, did I?” Blue asked worriedly.

•••

The cowboy leaned into the touches, continuing to fan himself. “Naw, y’didnt, Blue. I could do that lil’ performance again if I wanted to!” He boasted. He probably couldn’t, and if he did, his joints would probably give out.

Yellow scooted closer to his darling so that they were pressed together, side to side. He then leaned his head down onto Blue’s shoulder with a sigh. “Y’smell nice today, puddin’. Like flowers.” He smiled innocently, batting his eyelashes as if everybody here didn’t smell like flowers.

•••

Blue smiled and blushed. “Oh, Yellow…” he purred affectionately. He adored when Yellow showered him in compliments like this.

The flower turned his head to the side to kiss his cheek, then moved to face him instead. He shifted to sit on his lap and wrapped his arms around his shoulders, looking up at him with a fond smile.

“You’re so handsome, sweetheart,” Blue drawled, tilting his head. His eyelashes fluttered against his flushed cheeks.

•••

Yellow giggled at the kisses and affection. He then turned his head away to avoid eye contact, his face turning a vibrant scarlet. He didn’t really know how to handle this well. “Yer— yer so nice ta me, Blue— oh- I dunno what to do!” He stammered, wrapping his arms around Blue’s waist.

“Aw golly, Blue, I just— yer so pertty an’ kind an’— man, I just— whew!” The cowboy shook his head, grinning like a kid on Christmas. His expression softened as he looked down at the ballerina’s face again, his eyes flicking over his face. He then pressed a kiss to Blue’s forehead.

•••

Blue closed his eyes and hummed, leaning into Yellow’s kiss. He rested his chin on the cowboy’s shoulder, his arms still wrapped around him. He could feel Yellow’s heartbeat against his chest, and that made a warm feeling bloom in his heart. He truly loved his cowboy so much.

The ballerina pulled back to gaze up at him again. They stared lovingly at each for a few moments, before Blue reached up to cup his jaw. He inhaled deeply before pressing his lips against Yellow’s, softly. His heart was racing—this was the first time he’d kissed Yellow like this.

•••

Yellow froze, unsure of what to do. He felt Blue’s lips against his own, their chests pressed together. His heart was hammering in his chest faster than a jockey in a high stakes race. He glanced around, then grabbed his hat and pulled it to cover the side of their faces. If someone ever entered the stage area, he wouldn’t want them to feel awkward seeing the two kissing!

Despite knowing this was a highly intimate moment, he wasn’t sure how to conduct himself. He’s never kissed someone like this before. He’s only seen something so beautiful in the movies he watched, where the hero cowboy would kiss a girl before telling her he was too afraid his dangerous job of being a mercenary would get her killed. That, or the cowboys never had a solid love interest, because they were scared of commitment, their jobs being more important, so they simply roamed from woman to woman.

Yellow didn’t want to do that with Blue though. He didn’t want to leave and break the performer’s heart. Hell, he wouldn’t even want to leave Blue if he had a dangerous job! But.. he was a cowboy, wasn’t he? No. Blue came before being a western hero. Blue came before everything.

“Blue, I—“ He mumbled into his lips, his brow furrowing. “What do I do?” He whispered.

•••

Blue pulled back slightly with a soft exhale. He opened his eyes and his heart ached immediately when he saw Yellow’s nervous expression. The ballerina felt guilty—he should’ve known Yellow would be inexperienced or nervous. He was too, after all.

Blue reached down to hold Yellow’s hands, gently squeezing them. “Do you… Do you want to kiss me too?” he asked softly, bringing one hand up to brush against his jaw. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to, or don’t feel ready for it, darling,” he whispered gently.

•••

The cowboy nodded vigorously. “I do! I do wanna kiss ya! I just— uh.. what if I do it wrong? What if I ain’t got what it takes? I don’t wanna make you feel wrong.” He sighed, lowering his hat into his lap.

Yellow reached up, taking Blue’s hand from his cheek to his lips, gently kissing the palm of the ballerina’s hand. “I would never in a million years give up the chance ta make you happy, puddin’. Even if I’m unsure.” He said firmly, staring down at Blue with both a sense of pride and determination, but also slight uncertainty and anxiousness.

•••

Blue hummed sympathetically and squeezed Yellow’s hand again. “You’d never make me feel wrong, my darling. And you always have what it takes,” he reassured. He rested his hands back on Yellow’s shoulders and rubbed gentle circles into his skin.

“There’s not really a… a way to describe the specific method,” Blue started. “You simply follow the movement of my lips and replicate it with yours. It’s like the routine we just practiced,” he explained, smiling up at the cowboy.

•••

Yellow slowly nodded, only semi-listening to Blue. His mind was already drifting away to how the cowboys in his movies kissed people. It was usually at the end of movies where it seemed like the men meant it most, cupping their lady’s face in their hands before initiating. Though, sometimes the movies would have the protagonist with prostitutes. Yellow always looked away at those parts, because it’d be wrong to intrude on someone else’s private time.

The cowboy gave the ballerina’s hands a squeeze in return before letting go, his hands going up to cup his cheeks. He adjusted himself for a moment, staring into Blue’s eyes, then down at his lips.

•••

Blue smiled and pressed his cheek against Yellow’s palm. He lifted his head and pressed his lips back against his. The ballerina hummed and his eyes fluttered shut as he wrapped his arms back around his shoulders.

He moved slowly, not wanting to overwhelm the cowboy too much. His lips lightly grazed Yellow’s in a delicate dance like a ballet routine.

•••

The cowboy let out a soft noise as their lips made contact. His eyes remained open to watch what Blue was doing, to mimic and mirror what was going on. He felt the performer’s arms around his shoulders, and awkwardly tried to do the same, eventually opting to wrap them beneath his arms.

Yellow leaned into the kiss a bit, noticing Blue’s eyes were closed. He then quickly did the same with a slight, guilty gasp that he hadn’t noticed sooner.

•••

Blue continued moving his lips with the cowboy’s in a slow dance. He pulled away after a few, long moments. His face broke out into a wide smile, and he gently cupped Yellow’s jaw.

“You did so well,” Blue praised, moving his hands down to massage Yellow’s shoulders. “How did that feel? Did you enjoy it?” he asked softly. He wanted to make sure Yellow was comfortable and okay. The last thing he wanted was for him to keep something bottled up.

•••

Yellow was caught off guard when the contact broke, but quickly grinned when Blue held his face and praised him. If he had a tail, it’d be wagging like there’s no tomorrow.

He nodded at the ballerina’s question. “Y-yeah, it was pertty good.” He mumbled, then glanced briefly around, leaning a bit closer. “Can.. can we do it again?” He whispered, almost conspiratorially.

•••

Blue’s eyebrows raised in surprise as Yellow asked to kiss again. He had expected him to only want to once, since it was his first time—but he was overjoyed that he liked it.

“Of course,” Blue purred and pulled Yellow into another kiss. He moved his lips a bit more firmly against the cowboy’s to test what he may be comfortable with.

•••

Yellow sighed in relief, pulling Blue a bit closer. His arms wrapped around him more firmly as he felt their lips press together again, and he closed his eyes.

He remembered the careful motions Blue used in their previous moments, and he tried to replicate that. He felt like he was growing a bit lightheaded from the sheer amount of excitement and giddiness this brought him, and his heart rate was starting to increase.

•••

Blue’s chest was set against his now as they gently swayed together. His tongue swiped across Yellow’s bottom lip and he panted against his mouth.

He pulled back again after a few moments to look up at yellow, checking in. His eyes trailed over his face, trying to see if he enjoyed it. Blue tilted his head and gently ran his hands down Yellow’s shoulders and chest. “How did that feel darling?”

•••

The cowboy panted as the ballerina broke the contact once more. At the touches to his shoulders and chest, he giggled, then slowly rested his head down on Blue’s shoulder. “It— it— s’good—“ He stammered.

Yellow let out a soft noise, then buried his face into the crook of Blue’s neck. His face was burning and he wasn’t quite sure why.

•••

Blue smiled and wrapped his arms around the cowboy, gently rubbing his upper back. He took Yellow’s hat off to run his fingers through his hair as well.

“I’m glad you liked it,” Blue drawled, lifting his head to press a kiss against Yellow’s temple. He could feel the flower’s rapid pulse fluttering beneath his lips. “Mm, you really enjoyed it didn’t you?” Blue teased and hugged him tighter. The ballerina’s chest felt warm with endless affection for the flustered cowboy.

•••

Yellow nodded with a “mhm!” Letting out an exhale when he was hugged tighter by Blue. He returned the affection with equal fervor, squeezing his darling. He leaned further against him, then pressed the sides of their faces together.

“I dunno how ta put it into words, Blue, but I— I really, really love ya! I— yer just so pertty ‘n gorgeous ‘n nice ta me, I- man, I am the luckiest flower in the whole wide world! Yes I am!” He exclaimed.

•••

Blue smiled and rubbed his cheek against his in return. He blushed at Yellow’s stumbled affectionate words, his smile growing fonder. “Oh darling, you’re such a sweetheart,” he purred, tilting his head to catch his lips in another quick kiss. “I’m the lucky one.”

Blue moved his hand down and gently squeezed Yellow’s bicep. “You’re incredibly strong, brave, determined…” the ballerina rattled off, gently rubbing his arm. “I feel so safe with you, my dear.”

•••

The cowboy giggled at the continued praise, burying his face into Blue’s shoulder again. He didn’t know how to react to all these compliments, this attention! Blue always gave it to him, but it still never ceased to render the cowboy speechless.

Yellow felt like his heart was about to drill itself out of his chest, and his breathing was quite heavy. He clenched his eyes shut, grinning from ear to ear.

•••

Blue slowly stood, pulling Yellow up along with him. “And you’re a perfect dance partner. The routine was perfect because of you,” Blue cooed. He lifted the cowboy’s hand and did a small twirl beneath his hold. “Maybe if you ever get tired of serving justice, you could join me on stage,” he teased.

The flower stepped back, still holding Yellow’s hands as he gazed up at him. He rocked back on his feet and hummed, smiling happily. “You make me bloom, my dear Yellow,” Blue purred.

•••

The cowboy rubbed the back of his neck shyly. “Haha- well, er, sorry, puddin’, but I don’t think I’d ever get tired o’ justice! But..” he looked down at Blue, taking his hand in both of his own. “I.. I wouldn’t mind dancin’ with ya again.” Yellow mumbled, his cheeks turning a deep orange.

Yellow then cleared his throat, then heard running from outside the room. The voice of Seth and Aqua was audible, mostly Aqua giggling, and Seth yelling, likely scolding Aqua. Then he heard the purple child start yelling about.. knives? The cowboy snapped to attention.

“Ah- I- well— I’ll see ya later, Blue!! I think justice is callin’!! Seth an’ Aqua need HELP!” He exclaimed, then sprinted off stage. Though, he quickly skidded to a stop when he realized his hat was not on his head, and he spun on his heel, ran back to Blue, and took his hat back. The cowboy pressed a kiss to the ballerina’s cheek, then galloped out of the performing room to follow Seth and Aqua.

•••

Blue smiled and watched his darling skip away—duty calls, after all. The dancer glided back to the center of the stage, slipping effortlessly back into the start of his routine. Blue would stay out here until the late hours of the night, dancing as his heart guided him. Though, his heart now held space for another.

Yellow would stay on his mind throughout his routine, and it would bring peace to the ballerina—a peace that was sometimes hard to achieve with the intensity of his performances. The cowboy made it easier. He always made everything easier, and perfect to Blue. They would reunite in the morning—for now, Blue would drift away with his presence in his heart.
