Work Text:
It all started with a simple misunderstanding in the dim light of a December evening within the shared apartment of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto when Satoru overheard Suguru talking with Shoko.
"Geto, you're overreacting." She drawled, the smell of cigarettes wafting throughout their living room.
Gojo was in his room when he heard the tail end of their conversation and suddenly had the very strong urge to eavesdrop.
Now, he knew it was wrong to but he was so desperate to know why Shoko was telling his smart, reasonable and level headed best friend that he was overreacting of all people.
Like, let's be real. When has Suguru ever overreacted?
So Satoru decided that he just had to hear because he's like, Suguru's best friend so he deserves to know, obviously.
He walked up to his bedroom door and placed his ear beside it, trying to hear the conversation clearly.
Satoru was unable to make out the foggy words through the thickness of his wooden door so he decided to crack it and put his ear against it.
"...Would not say that! Be real," Shoko's voice filled the space between the crack in his door and he let a sigh of relief.
"Have you seen the way he acts around you? Or how he looks at those guys on those American TV shows? You're smarter than this, Geto."
Who the hell is 'he'?

Gojo tried leaning farther against the door but he very unfortunately slammed it when his weight collided with the door.
He inhaled a sharp breath and closed his eyes as he could hear their conversation go silent for a few moments.
Please keep talking Satoru's nosy ass couldn't help but think.
Their voices were quiet until he opened it back up, hearing the end of his best friend's sentence just in time.
"...Sorry but I don't like gay people. You guys are gross as hell and going there too."
What?
Satoru knew Suguru was a lot of things.
He knew Suguru was caring and funny. Smart and patient. Interesting and thoughtful.
But Satoru would have never used the adjective "homophobic" to describe Suguru until now.
What the actual fuck.
────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────────────
Suguru was a lot of things.
Calm, stubborn, patient, somewhat understanding and a little close minded.
And he was also in love with his best friend.
It didn't come as a shock to him and it definitely didn't change his life's trajectory when he found out.
It was like realizing something that you'd always known in the back of your mind.
Like a song that was constantly playing that you never really learned the lyrics to but you could subconsciously sing along to.
Or finding out that a piece of the paint on your bedroom doorway was chipped and you had never really noticed it before that second but it had been there all along.
Or finding a beauty mark or birth mark on your body that has been in your literal baby photos but you didn't find until you were staring in the mirror one day in high school, trying to look at something completely unrelated to the mark.
Suguru loving Satoru was just a fact.
A constant.
Something everyone knew and no one could deny.
Like saying the sky was blue (technically speaking, it isn't, but there's no need to think about that now) or that grass is green.
So when he was sitting in class his junior year of high school and he realized his love for Satoru was a little more romantic than platonic, he didn't pass out or gasp aloud.
He just understood.
That sense of understanding never went it away.
Instead, it only grew.
He later understood that his love was almost one hundred percent unrequited and would probably be frowned upon by his best friend.
He didn't think Satoru was homophobic or anything but he also did not think that his feelings were reciprocated in any way.
That was until a random day in November in their first year of college.
They were sitting on their shared couch in their apartment with Shoko, Utahime, Nanami and Haibara watching a movie when Shoko yells out,
“Dude, does anyone else think that the two main guys like… totally have something going on?”
It goes quiet for a moment and Suguru inhales very slowly at the silence.
And just as he’s about to speak on it and say god knows what, Satoru speaks first.
“What do you mean?” Satoru asked, picking his head off of Suguru’s shoulder and turning to look at Shoko who was drinking some unknown substance from a styrofoam cup.
“Well, they seem like they have something going on? What do you mean ‘What do you mean’??” Shoko took another sip.
Her sentence seemed to agitate Satoru, his nose scrunching and eyebrows furrowing.
“What, do you mean that they’re like, gay?”
It was quiet once again and Geto wanted to die.
No one really knew he was gay besides Shoko but he also knew it was sort of obvious.
Nanami gave him a knowing look and Geto swallowed hard.
He never went out with girls or talked about them in the way Satoru or any other guy they knew did.
He avoided questions about his love life and was very vague when asked about hookups he’d had or crushes he’d obtain in highschool.
But he also didn’t talk about guys or being gay at all so the absence of dating women didn’t mean the presence of liking men.
Maybe they thought he had no game or was like… asexual or something, he didn’t really know or care.
That was until Satoru said, “They’re definitely not!”
The sentence itself was innocent and its intent didn’t seem malicious inherently but the way he said it twisted something in Geto’s gut.
His voice was laced with what could only be described as disgust or disapproval.
“And why can’t they be, Gojo?” Utahime spoke up, tone tired and bored on the surface but curious and teasing underneath.
Geto sighed.
“I- Well- I- I never said that they can’t be but I just don’t think they are...” Satoru looked extremely uncomfortable as he spoke.
Utahime seemed like she was going to say something else but Shoko nudged her and shook her head to which surprisingly, Utahime took the hint and obeyed.
Nobody talked for a few moments before Nanami spoke up and said, “So can I play the movie again or are you guys still discussing headcannons?”
Haibara looked around slowly and Gojo made a small high pitched sound of agreement and then the movie began to play again.
Satoru put his head back on Suguru’s shoulder and the night continued on as normal but something dark and achy rested in Geto’s chest.
That was the night Geto decided that Gojo might just be homophobic.
And the same moment he realized he’d never have a chance with his best friend.
────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────────────
A few days after Gojo heard Shoko’s conversation with Geto, he formulated a plan to find out whether or not Suguru was really homophobic.
Step one: Subtly bring up gay people.
Step two: Hint at being gay yourself (even though Satoru is straight, he thinks it'll be easier to get the answer out of Suguru. Obviously.)
Step three: Outwardly confront him.
Satoru, of course, thought it was a pretty good damn plan.
So when him and Suguru were hanging out after a dinner with their friends, Satoru knew it was time to implement phase one of The Plan™.
"Did you see that Haruto from my class and his boyfriend got a cat together?" Satoru looked to the side as he took off his shoes, trying to guage Suguru's reaction nonchalantly.
Suguru didn't seem to have any extreme or visible response which only made Satoru want to push further for acknowledgement.
"Why would I see that?" He plainly asked, walking across their apartment to slump down onto the couch, letting out a sigh.
His tone was void of emotion but Satoru could tell the conversation was making him uncomfortable.
Oh no.... is Suguru... actually homophobic!?
"Uh, well... they posted it on their Instagram so I just thought you might've seen it." Satoru swallowed, walking towards their tan couch.
They got it real cheap off some weird thrift site and even though they ended up dry cleaning it, they saved a lot more money than if they had bought the couch Satoru's parents recommended.
He really had no reason to deny their couch recommendations besides the fact that he hated listening to their bossy suggestions. So of course, he got a cheap couch to make his parents mad.
Suguru called him ridiculous but smiled nonetheless when they bought it, immediately telling Satoru how much he liked it the moment Satoru began to fake pout (Satoru knew Suguru knew he was faking it but gave in anyway. Satoru loved that about Suguru).
"Oh, I didn't see their post. That's uh- nice. Why'd you, um, bring it up?" Suguru broke Satoru out of his thoughts, causing the other boy to slightly freeze before sitting beside the other on the couch.
"No reason!" Satoru quickly responded, voice so tight and forced that Suguru gave him a weird look, causing him to desperately try to fix the vibes.
"I just- thought about it I guess." Satoru expanded.
Suguru definitely thought he was being normal, right?
I mean, Satoru has always known he's kind of a weird person so this isn't too out of the ordinary.
....Right?
"Well, I'm gonna head to bed. Night, Satoru." Suguru said as he got up from the couch, purring Satoru's name as he left.
Satoru definitely did not immediately miss his presence and he definitely did not feel a weird, aching and fluttery feeling in his chest when Suguru said his name.
Definitely not.
Because that'd be weird, he decided as he watched his best friend walk into the bathroom to get ready for bed.
Satoru sighed and got up from the sofa himself, heading towards his room to change and contemplate the results of his experiment.
He turned on the light in his bedroom, taking off his pants and shirt as soon as he entered his space, changing into a t-shirt with haste.
Gojo flung himself onto his bed, waiting until he heard the sink turn off in the bathroom for him to go and brush his teeth and freshen up before bed.
It wasn't unusual for him and Geto to be using the bathroom at the same time to brush their teeth or get ready.
It was actually very normal and frequent for them.
There was only one sink but the mirror was rectangular and there was a pretty good amount of room on the ledge where the sink and all their skin/hair/other products were.
So they often brushed their teeth at the same time, giggling with each other when their eyes met in the mirror and talking to the other when Suguru was blow drying his hair or Satoru was taking a shower.
They were totally inseparable.
Utahime likes to say they're codependent with each other, "especially Gojo" she constantly states, but Satoru disagrees.
He whole heartily agrees that him and Suguru are a normal amount of obsessed with one another.
Like for example, tonight, he didn't even occupy the bathroom at the same time as Suguru like usual.
Which indicates that they can do mundane and normal tasks without the company of each other!
Was Satoru still technically focused on and thinking about Suguru while he was away from him....
Well...yeah, but he was busy with an experiment so it's fine.
Or at least that's what the reasoning in Satoru's head tells him.
So as Suguru takes a piss, brushes his teeth, combs his hair and does his nightly routine, Satoru obsesses over him from the room over.
"So...he didn't react too negatively..." Satoru says aloud to himself, rolling onto his stomach then back onto his side then his back again, giving himself vertigo.
"But he did seem a little uncomfortable with the subject..."
Was it because they were talking about gay people or was it because Suguru was tired or because he didn't really know them?
Or maybe he was just confused as to why Satoru brought them up.
Because he did ask that. So yeah, maybe that is why.
But Satoru couldn't help but think that explanation was wrong.
And he also couldn't stomach the fact that Suguru was homophobic.
Some part of his body was so violently repelling the idea of him not liking gay people to the point that Satoru was honestly a little concerned.
Which is like, worrying because Satoru is never concerned about things unless he really needs to be (excluding topics/problems that are related to Suguru because he like, is always very protective when it comes to Suguru. Because they're best friends, probably).
It's probably just because Satoru is an ally though. And also because a lot of their friends are gay or partially gay, so.
Then that thought leads Satoru back to the original piece of evidence.
Geto was telling Shoko that gay people were gross.....to her face!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But Shoko is gay!
So why would Suguru say that?! And how are they still friends after that!?
Satoru would definitely not want to be friends with someone if they were homophobic towards him.
Not that they actually could be (since Satoru is straight) but yeah.
So because of all of these conflicting parts of the experiment, he had no other choice but to consult the one place where he knew he'd get honest responses and maybe even get called a slur...
Reddit.

It was Satoru's first time asking that specific subreddit a question so hopefully they were nice on there.
After he typed up his post, it had been a long time since Suguru had left the bathroom.
So once it was posted, he went and got ready for bed, excited to sleep and wake up with (hopefully) lots of responses in the morning.
People on Reddit usually called Gojo stupid and slow but he knew he had no other choice.
He climbed back into bed and turned off his lights, curling up under the blankets.
The next morning, he awoke to the smell of coffee, bacon and eggs.
It was a Saturday and the odds of the smell being Suguru cooking breakfast for both of them was extremely likely.
Or maybe it was their neighbor making breakfast and the smell was coming through the vent... that had happened before. And it ruined Satoru's entire morning.
He jumped up out of his bed and ran out his door to the bathroom to pee, brush his teeth and wash his face before tumbling into the kitchen.
Suguru didn't always cook breakfast but when he did, it was amazing.
Suguru turned around at the noise of Satoru moving into the kitchen, a small smile on his face as he stood beside the stove.
Satoru jumped across the room to pull Suguru into an excited hug, nuzzling his face in his neck.
Suguru froze for a fraction of a second like he didn't know how to react before he mirrored the hug.
"Thank you. I love when you make breakfast" Satoru whispered against the crook of Suguru's neck and shoulder.
He could feel the other boy shudder for unknown reasons but he decided to brush it off to him just being cold. Because what else could it be?
"I know you do, that's why I do it." Suguru pet Satoru's hair and he felt the incredible urge to.....kiss Suguru?
Woah!
Were those actually his thoughts?
"Satoru, are you okay?" He must have frozen or jerked from his thoughts causing Suguru to notice and become worried. Suguru was so thoughtful.
"Oh um, yeah, totally. I'm fine. Super...good."
Suguru laughed and the sound made Satoru suppress a shiver.
What was wrong with him?
Was he coming down with a fever?
He pulled away from the hug to sit at the counter, leaning his elbows against it as Suguru placed a plate in front of him.
Satoru immediately started to eat, a little faster than usual he must admit, but The Plan™ was making him hungry.
Suguru sat in the chair next to him and drank his black coffee, occasionally glancing over at Satoru's unusual behavior.
He was already a fast eater but this was a little excessive.
"Pear's tour foo?" (Where's your food?) Satoru asked between bites, barely keeping his mouth closed as he both talked and ate.
He was expecting Suguru to tell him not to talk with food in his mouth, like he has many times before, but he instead just took a sip from his mug.
"I already ate." He responded, squinting as he watched Satoru.
"Hmm." He hummed back in response, finishing his food and taking a drink of water, planning to go back to his room and check Reddit.
"Okay well um I gotta go do- something." Satoru said, getting out of his chair.
Suguru just nodded, taking a few more sips.
He was being a little more quiet than usual but it wasn't that weird for him to be quiet in the mornings.
He took his plate to the sink before returning to his room.
The moment he got into his bedroom, he shut the door a little too hard and jumped on his bed to retrieve his phone.
The moment he grabbed it, the first thing he did was open Reddit.
And, of course, because Satoru Gojo had such amazing luck, it already had a few responses.
Well, that was definitely one way to start the day.
Satoru knew he wasn't gay. He's literally kissed girls before! Was it kind of boring and slightly underwhelming....yes. But! Satoru loved to get attention from girls. Which must mean that he likes girls!?
He literally thought Waka Inoue was super pretty as a highschooler. He even had her as his lockscreen! So he must like women...right?
He types something similar into the reply box and hits send.
Well that was phase 3 of The Plan™ so he couldn't just skip to that step without going through the others, obviously.
He explained that in his reply.
What?
Why would Geto's conversation with Shoko be about him?
Wait....are they saying that Suguru thinks Gojo is gay and he was being homophobic to Satoru to Shoko??
Maybe he's only homophobic towards men...
Satoru includes this all in his response.

Now this one had Satoru thinking.
Why did he feel so upset to hear that Suguru might be homophobic?
I mean, for obvious reasons, Satoru wouldn't want his best friend to have bigoted views.
But still, it felt really...personal almost.
So did that mean Satoru was gay?
This was all very confusing.
He sent that in his reply.
Satoru shut off his phone and flung onto his back.
What a morning.
────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────────────
Suguru let out a breath of relief when Satoru left the room.
Don't get him wrong, he loved hanging out with and talking to Satoru.
It's just that he'd been acting super weird recently.
Like what was with the whole classmate and his boyfriend's cat thing. And the speed of which he ate breakfast.
Satoru was a very energetic, amped up person but this was even a little much for him.
It seemed like he was anxious and cagey around Suguru. And that bothered Geto to no end.
The day went by slowly, Gojo rarely leaving his room. And when he did, it was to get food or use the bathroom. It was bizarre to say the least.
Every few hours, Geto would hear Gojo screaming into his pillow or blasting weirdly depressing songs before switching back to optimistic ones.
Geto couldn't help but feel like he had done something wrong.
Or worse,
Satoru discovered Suguru's secret romantic feelings for him somehow.
Holy shit.
Once that thought was planted in Suguru's brain, it would not budge.
While the possibility of that happening was extremely low, it wasn't impossible.
It was possible that maybe Shoko had slipped up while drunk and Gojo heard something he shouldn't have.
Or maybe he overheard him and Ieiri talking about it.
Fuck.
Suddenly, Gojo's door swung open and he walked out, dressed nicely and smelling strongly of the cologne Geto had bought him for his 18th birthday.
"Where are you going?" He asked, watching as Gojo stormed through the kitchen, frantically looking for his house keys and wallet.
Geto noted that he was shaking.
"I uh- I'm going on a date." Satoru responded, avoiding eye contact as he spoke.
Suguru's heart dropped to his stomach.
He cleared his throat before replying, hoping to sound unbothered like he always had to be when Gojo went on dates.
"Who's the lucky lady this time then?" His voice was dripping with playful sarcasm. Hopefully it sounded like the familiar kind of sarcasm and not the i'm-mad-that-you're-going-on-a-date-and-i'm-jealous-and-sad-as-fuck sarcasm.
"Hah, what makes you immediately assume it's a lady?"
What.
Geto could've sworn his heart stopped beating and the sun exploded.
What the fuck did he just say?
"I uh- What?" Geto stammers out, voice coming out in broken syllables.
"Well why do you automatically assume it's a girl I'm going out with? That's not very progressive of you, Suguru." Satoru smiled, his confident and playful facade back up.
Suguru choked on his spit.
"Stop fucking around Satoru, what's her name?" Geto half laughed, hoping he didn't look too much like a crazed maniac.
There was no way that Satoru wasn't straight.
"His name is Ren." He replied as he grabbed his keys, voice as serious as Gojo could sound while being serious.
Holy fucking shit.
"Oh." Geto lamely responded, watching as his best friend prepared to go out with another guy. A guy that wasn't him.
"Well uh, have fun then." He added on, voice slightly higher than normal.
"Yeah, thanks." Gojo plainly said while looking anywhere but Geto's face or eyes.
"Got to go but I'll see you later, yeah?"
"Y-Yeah."
"Kay, bye." Gojo said quickly before shutting the door behind him, leaving a completely broken and world shaken Suguru Geto alone.
Geto sat alone in the silence of the apartment, suddenly feeling very lonely and wishing he had a cat or something like Satoru's stupid classmate. And his boyfriend.
Damn it.
How had Geto missed it? Had he really been so caught up in his own world that he didn't even realize that his best friend was bisexual? Or gay at all?
All he knew for sure was that it was extremely unlikely that the rest of his night would go well.
Geto could already see it;
Gojo stumbling through the door, tipsy from the fancy wine he'll be sure to drink on his extravagant date (because Satoru Gojo never accepts less than what he could provide himself—with the sole exception of his friends) and red-faced from whatever activities he'd get into on his "date".
Geto felt like he could throw up.
────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────────────
The door slammed behind Gojo and he let out a sigh of relief so deep he worried that he'd pass out from lack of oxygen.
So that was phase two of The Plan™ completed.
It definitely went worse than Gojo had expected.
It seemed like Suguru was absolutely repulsed by the idea of Gojo going on a date with a guy.
He scurried through the hallway to the stairwell before jogging down the stairs (for the first time in his life) to get the fuck out of his apartment complex as soon as possible.
Satoru wasn't actually going on a date with a dude. Obviously. Because that would be gay.
But part two of The Plan™ called for Gojo having to hint at him being gay himself to see if it was a personal issue or that Suguru was just homophobic to all gay men.
Because he clearly isn't homophobic to gay women.
Satoru wasn't really sure where to go since he wasn't actually going out with someone.
He ended up choosing a local coffee shop as his destination, deciding to ride the subway instead of walking so he could calm himself down properly.
And because it was cold as shit outside with it being December and evening time at that.
Satoru sighed, checking Reddit, silently preparing himself to be cussed out (again).
When he looked down at the little bell, he was shocked to see that he had tons of notifications.
Shit.
He noticed that there was only one new comment that read, "you're an idiot".
Satoru ignored it and went to the already existing comments that now had replies.
He went to look at the first reply to his reply to the first comment he responded to.
idkwhatimdoinghere
are you gay?
thechosenone
what? no! i've literally kissed girls before. sure, it was kind of boring but that doesn't mean i'm gay. and besides, when i was in highschool, i had a HUGE crush on Waka Inoue. i literally thought she was so pretty to the point i made her my lockscreen. so i can't be gay...right?
idkwhatimdoinghere
no, that doesn't mean you're straight. and if you find kissing women boring and it doesn't arouse you or interest you... you might be gay bud
Oh....
Gojo was going to come back to that.
He scrolled to the next one.
bestadvicegiver
well, it sounds like you're missing a few details that I think are crucial to what you really want to know. you didn't hear the full conversation so the best thing you could probably do is to ask him yourself.
thechosenone
um.. no can do. that's step 3 of The Plan (trademarked) so i can't skip past the other steps to get there because it's the last one. obviously
bestadvicegiver
what the fuck do you mean by a plan...
thechosenone
step 1: subtly bring up gay people (already done). step 2: hint at being gay myself even tho im straight (also already done.) (went poorly 😬). step 3: outwardly confront him (haven't done yet).
Gojo was confused by their reaction. What was so wrong with having a set plan in times like these?
They should probably change their username.
Gojo added that to his comment.
He scrolled even further to the other comment he had previously responded to before.
rockmusiclov3r
dude i think he was talking about you
thechosenone
why would his conversation with our other friend be about me? are you saying that you think that he thinks i'm gay and was being homphobic about me to our other friend? is he only homophobic towards men???
rockmusiclov3r
um no.. that's not what i meant.
thechosenone
o kayyyyy?? then what did you mean?
These people were exhausting.
fuckyou
maybe you should unpack why you were so bothered to hear that he might be homophobic in the first place. because as far as ik you think you're straight but based on what you said about feeling super weird about him possibly being homophobic..it seems you might not be. idk it's smth worth looking into though.
thechosenone
i mean, of course i wouldn't want my best friend to be a dick and have bigoted views but... it did feel almost.. personal? idk. does that mean i'm gay? this is so confusing
fuckyou
you could be. maybe take an "am i gay" quiz like we all did at like 10 years old. you're only a decade late it's okay.
thechosenone
okay i will i guess. i'll give you an update.
Satoru swiped out of reddit and went to google, immediately searching up an "am i gay" test.
He clicked on the first one he saw and already choked at the first question.

Well...
Him and Suguru did get dating allegations all the time, even by their own friends.
But saying "no" didn't sit right with him.
Gojo shrugged to himself then chose the first option.

This one kind of freaked Satoru out.
He had wanted to kiss Suguru before.
Such as earlier this morning at breakfast...
And once he had a dream about it.
Well, not exactly..
In the dream, it was a girl with medium length black hair and slightly tan skin. Satoru couldn't see her body since they were under a blanket but when they pulled away from the kiss, Satoru was shocked to see that the "girl" was none other than his best friend.
He woke up with a raging boner.
Second option it is then.

Satoru wasn't sure about this one.
He didn't really watch shows that had gay people and if they did, he never really noticed. But when it was pointed out, it annoyed him to death because it was always his favorite character that he personally related to.
So he should probably pick the second option then.

Satoru hadn't really had a crush on someone in a long time. But back in high school, he remembered picking the prettiest girls in the school and often the ones his other friends liked.
But crushes and love interests had never really been a big deal to Satoru.
Romance movies bored him and love songs made him happy and optimistic but he never related to them.
He could technically choose the second or the third option but the third seemed more true to him.

The answer for this one came the easiest. It was obviously the first one.

Now this one was harder.
When Satoru thought of himself in a relationship they always had long black hair and weirdly resembled Suguru. But the moment he tried to put a girl face on the person or imagine a girl's body, he immediately didn't want them.
Maybe he really IS gay...
He felt tears stinging in his eyes as he chose the first option.
The subway's alerting system announced that his destination was three stops away.
Satoru let out a deep breath.

He read through the options and chose the second, swallowing hard as he fought back tears.
He didn't know why he felt like crying.
He sped through the rest of the quiz.

Yes.

I'm not interested. That would feel like a chore.
And it did. And it had.
He now understood why he never wanted to text back his girlfriends in high school. Or kiss them under the bleachers like his friends. Or stare at women in porn magazines knowing deep down that he stared at the guy the whole time a sex movie was playing.
He now understood why he felt like he was faking it all this whole time. He just thought everyone had felt that way.
But they didn't.
A tear fell down Gojo's cheek.

Yeah. Pretty often.

Option one.

Option two.

"Very likely.." Satoru whispered aloud to himself.
If Suguru felt the same then it was a billion percent likely.
He would marry him if asked.
Gojo's face was covered in tears now.

Satoru felt sick at the thought of dating anyone but Suguru but he chose the second option because if he hypothetically did not know Suguru, then he probably would.

Well...
Now that he thought about it, Haibara and Nanami seemed a little too close. And he already knew Shoko was a lesbian and with Utahime. Which technically meant that all his friends were gay.
Besides Suguru. The voice in his head unhelpfully supplied.
Oh shit.
Satoru forgot he was doing all of this because he thought that Suguru was homophobic. Towards men.
Satoru's screen became blurry and he heaved a little.
There was no way he was about to have a panic attack on the (luckily) half empty subway.

Satoru read the last question, finger shaking as he chose the first option.
The results popped up on his screen and he let out a watery laugh.

He knew it wasn't a maybe or "might" and that made everything a little worse.
Satoru honestly felt like he was about to have an anxiety attack with the realization that he's definitely, 100%, fully a homosexual.
The train stopped at his stop and he stepped out, standing off to the side as he watched it leave again.
He no longer wanted to go to the cafe. He just wanted to go home. Unfortunately, the next train didn't come for another thirty minutes and he was not waiting that long.
So Satoru decided to walk up the stairwell to the city to catch a cab back to his apartment.
He would call Suguru in a situation like this if it were any other time.
But he was partially the reason why Satoru was freaking out right now. So he couldn't face him until he calmed down.
And if that was in a cab, then so be it.
He wiped his face before flagging one down, jumping into the backseat when one stopped for him.
He told the driver his destination and paid with the cash he had been planning to use for a drink.
The drive was obviously shorter than the subway's because there was no extra stops. And probably because Satoru gave the driver a tip.
Within a solid ten minutes, he was back outside his apartment complex, just as worried as he had been when he left.
The driver practically had to kick him out, complaining about wasting gas and that Satoru was taking too long to "get out of the damn car".
After a few seconds of attempting to calm his nerves (and failing), he opened the backseat door and stepped out, watching as the taxi sped away.
Satoru walked up the stairwell slowly, dreading facing his biggest fears.
He had stopped crying the moment he got in the cab but he couldn't rely on the same amount of control here.
When he reached his floor, he pulled his house keys out of his pocket and opened the front door.
The moment it opened, Suguru's head whipped toward the door.
He was sitting on the couch with chinese takeout food, mid bite with a show playing on the TV screen.
Satoru couldn't take the sight and immediately burst into tears, shutting the door behind him as he cried like a toddler.
Suguru's eyes widened and his face paled as he realized that Gojo was actually sobbing and hyperventilating and that he wasn't hallucinating.
He practically threw his food onto the table as he got up, stalking over towards Gojo as quickly as possible.
"Satoru, what's wrong? Did something happen? Did he do something to you?" He asked so sweetly as he enveloped Satoru in a hug.
"I'm gay!" Satoru choked out, barely understandable through his shallow breaths and broken voice.
Suguru's hand found itself against Satoru's head, protectively cradling it as his other hand soothingly rubbed up and down his back.
"What do you mean, Toru?" Geto questioned, body stiffening slightly. Gojo couldn't respond. He could only cry harder, chest heaving as he mumbled. He was inconsolible.
"Come on. Let's go sit down, yeah?" Suguru suggested as he pulled away from the embrace.
Satoru immediately missed the warmth of his chest as he followed him to the couch.
They both sat down, facing each other on their shitty sofa.
Suguru studied his face with confusion as Satoru sniffled, terrified for his response.
"What do you mean by, 'I'm gay'?" He asked slowly, like he was speaking to a scared child.
And with the way he was acting, he might as well have been.
"What do you mean? I'm gay! Full blown gay! I don't like women." Satoru sobbed harder, hands covering his face.
"And- Did you just find this out?" Suguru asked, sounding extremely lost.
Satoru could only nod, breaths coming in and out in uneven intervals.
"But I thought you went on a date with a guy ton-"
"I lied. I only said that because I know you're homophobic and I was trying to confirm that. And you did when you acted super weird when I brought up the date. And I kind of took an "Am I Gay?" quiz when I was gone and realized that I am and that you're gonna hate me because I heard you talking to Shoko about it and I just-" Satoru took a sharp breath in and sobbed harder.
"I'm so sorry." Satoru finished.
He took his hands off his face to gauge Geto's reaction.
And he almost threw up when he saw that Suguru looked even sicker than him.
"What?"
Is all that came out of his mouth. A lously, one worded response.
If Gojo had any more energy, he would've slapped him.
"Why would I be homophobic?" He asked, realizing that only one word came out of his mouth when he tried talking the first time.
"Wha- You mean you're not homophobic?" Satoru squeaked out.
How the fuck was he not...?
"What? No! No, Satoru, baby, no. I'm not homophobic."
Satoru's stomach flipped at the pet name.
Yep. Definitely gay.
"And I thought you were homophobic!"
Satoru froze.
Him? Homophobic?!
"What!? Why!" Satoru whined in confusion.
"Because that one time we were watching that movie and you got upset when Shoko said she thought the two main guys were gay!" Suguru explained, voice getting higher at the end in exasperation.
"Are you kidding me? That's because the two main characters reminded me a lot of us!"
Suguru stilled, eyebrows raising in shock.
Oh no. Did he say too much?
But then as if nothing had happened, Suguru laughed.
"How was I supposed to know that!?"
"I don't know, okay!?" Satoru shrugged uselessly, the laughter spreading to him.
The giggles died down and Satoru became serious again with another realization.
Wait.. but if Suguru wasn't homophobic... then what were him and Shoko talking about?
"But I heard you and Shoko talking about it! You said that gay people were gross and going to hell!" Satoru argued, watching the way Suguru's eyebrows furrowed at his words.
"What are you talking abou- Oh my god." Then, Suguru was cracking up.
Satoru watched as he laughed at his own internal thoughts, which apparently—were hilarious.
Satoru frowned, unamused.
"Satoru, I was telling Shoko what I thought you would say if I told you I had feelings for you!"
Suguru's face dropped as he realized what he said.
Holy shit.

Holy shit.
Geto's entire life was ruined.
His best friend just came out to him which was hard enough to do but now he had to deal with the fact his best friend was in love with him?
Suguru felt like he was going to be sick.
And just as he was about to start apologizing profusely, Gojo yelled,
"You have feelings for me!?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that right now. And I know you probably don't feel the same and I don't blame you."
Satoru started crawling across the couch towards him, face serious and eyes boring into his own.
Suguru swallowed.
What was Gojo gonna do? Slap him? Punch him? Cry?
"I really am sorry, Satoru. We can just pretend this nev-"
Satoru leaned all the way forward and pressed his lips onto Suguru's.
They fell backward onto the couch, Satoru lying on top of Suguru, kissing him.
Huh?
"You might just be as dumb as me." Satoru laughed as he pulled away, resting his elbows on either side of Suguru's chest.
"Wha-?"
"Obviously I have feelings for you too, you idiot."
???
"You do?" Suguru asked, a smile slowly appearing on his face.
He might just be God's favorite.
"Yah, I do." Satoru grinned, eyes bright and nose slightly pink from the cold and all the crying he had been doing.
He looked perfect as usual.
This time, Suguru was the one to connect their lips.
The kiss was longer this time, sweeter as they savored the feel of one another's lips.
It was everything Suguru had ever wanted.
Every 11:11 wish, every birthday wish, every penny he'd thrown into a fountain had come back to him at full speed like a frisbee, hitting him directly in the face.
Satoru pulled away to take a breath and Suguru immediately took it out of his lungs, pulling him into a lung crushing hug.
"I love you." Suguru whispered against his ear, shaking his best friend side to side slightly as he held him.
"I love you more." Satoru whispered back, voice coming out strained.
Suguru let out a happy sob at that and held him tighter, kissing his forehead and temples. "Not possible."

Later that night, Satoru went to his bedroom to update Reddit while Suguru made a late dinner for them.
He gave a brief explanation of what happened to the few commentors that had helped him but he stopped to give extra thanks to the one who told him to take the quiz.
He scrolled down to their comment.
fuckyou
maybe you should unpack why you were so bothered to hear that he might be homophobic in the first place. because as far as ik you think you're straight but based on what you said about feeling super weird about him possibly being homophobic..it seems you might not be. idk it's smth worth looking into though.

Satoru's phone was barely off for a minute before he heard it buzz.
When he lifted it up, he realized that they had already replied.
Damn they must be on their phone a lot.

What.
It took thirty seconds until Suguru called out to Satoru from his room.
"What the hell did Shoko just send me?"
