Work Text:
"Thank you," you said to the person behind the counter as you and Koriand'r were handed your treats. You grabbed your girlfriend's hand and started walking down the path through the park.
It was a beautiful summer day: blue skies and sunshine, with just enough of a breeze that the heat wasn't stifling. Birds flew around, chirping to one another, butterflies fluttered and bees buzzed around the colourful flowers, while the occasional annoying fly swooped by overhead. Couples, families and all sorts of groups were around, enjoying the nice weather.
"Mmm, this is so good. I'm glad we came," you said after tasting your ice cream. You glanced over at your partner and couldn't help the giggle-snort that escaped at the sight of Kori aggressively licking her ice cream.
"I'm guessing you like it," you teased, and went back to yours.
"Ice cream is an incredible invention and I'm glad I live on a planet with it. But," she squeezed your hand and grinned at you, "I enjoy your company more."
"Awwww." You tilted your head and smiled sweetly at her. "I happen to quite enjoy your company as well."
She brought up your joined hands to press a kiss to your knuckles before dropping them and letting them swing between you. You continued wandering around the park and catching up with each other.
You asked about her modelling work, her Starfire work and she asked about the cases you'd gotten, how your friends were doing. You moved onto shows you two were watching, books you hadn't gotten around to reading yet, current music hyperfixations. Eventually your conversation came around to your other partners.
"You saw Jason recently, didn't you?" Koriand'r asked, finishing off her ice cream, as you walked followed the path into a wooded area, providing nice shade and birdsong.
"Mhm, I was able to get back to Gotham for a weekend and Jason roped me into helping him with repairs on his bike. Him and Roy both, with their machines, engines and robots, I swear." You shook your head, chuckling fondly. "You were able to meet up with Roy and Lian last week, right?"
"Yes, they came out on the weekend, I took them to the circus Saturday night. We all agreed Dick was much better-"
"Of course," you smiled.
"-But we had a good time, the performers were all incredible. Roy came for Wednesday night, too, while Lian was with Oliver and Dinah. We went shopping, made dinner together, it was lovely."
"Awww, that's wonderful."
"It's been a while since you've seen them, haven't you?"
You nodded sadly. "Yeah, with my and Roy's work schedules and Lian's school and activities, we haven't been able to get together. I don't think I've seen them in person in… just over a month, maybe? It's been a bit."
The path led you back out into the sunlight, making Kori squint.
You quickly held up an arm to cast a shadow over her eyes. You grinned at her.
Kori laughed. "Why, thank you," she teased.
You winked. "My pleasure."
"Are you able to go to Lian's recital at the end of the month?" Koriand'r asked as you continued on.
"Ooooh, yes! I really hope so, I don't have work. Yet. But, unfortunately…" You sighed.
"You might get called in on a case," Kori finished, nodding. "I understand. We all would," she reassured you.
"I know. I really hope we don't, but, 'won't know until last minute."
Koriand'r squeezed your hand. "It'll all turn out. We'll all meet up and spend time together soon enough."
You bumped your shoulder into hers. "Thanks, love. Oooh, wait-" You dropped Kori's hand and darted away for a second. You crouched down next to the side of the path and picked up a flower that had broken off if its plant somewhere. With a grin, you rushed back over to your girlfriend. You carefully tucked the flower behind her ear.
"Beautiful," you murmured, smiling at her softly.
She smiled back. "And so are you," she said sweetly.
You grabbed her hand again and squeezed. "Love you."
She squeezed back and dropped a kiss on your forehead. "I love you, too. Shall we continue on?"
"Let's."
