Summary:

"So, I. Um. Called you over here to..." Akito noticed his voice was a lot quieter than usual. "Ask you out."

'What the fuck.'

"Will you go out with me?"

"..." Akito could feel his face heating up. Probably fever from going in the rain earlier.

"Please?" He was using puppy dog eyes.

"Ok, just stop looking at me like that! It's too cu- persuasive. But, also, what if it doesn't work out?"

"How about... we can try dating for two weeks. And if you really don't think it'll work, then we can stop."

"Okay, seems reasonable."

Chapter 1: meet-cute (tsukasa supplies the 'cute')

Chapter Text

Akito Shinonome was transferring schools to Kamiyama High. His family moved because his mother wanted more job opportunities.

At least Toya and An were going to the same school as him, so would hopefully be able to help him out. Unfortunately, Kohane was going to a different school.

His first day was tomorrow (or rather later that day, because by this point it was past midnight) and he was transferring in the middle of the year.

'Totally not fucking terrifying or anything.' Akito was too tired to be angry about it.

As he drifted off to sleep, finally closing his eyes, he has a feeling this is going to be the most chaotic school he has ever been to.

As he was jolted awake, the covers were thrown off of him and Ena shouted, "WAKE UP, YOU FUCKING IDIOT!!"

"CALM THE FUCK DOWN!"

"DO YOU WANT TO BE LATE??? SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:30 AND IT'S 7:50!!!"

"...Oh shit." Akito was starting to consider choosing night school instead.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. Go get ready, you lazy bum."

"Shut up, will you??"

He rushed to get ready, quickly brushing his teeth and showering as if he was going to die if he didn't get to school on time.

...Well, it would be the most embarrassing moment of his life, so that was basically the same thing.

Akito was relieved. He was going to make it-

Wait.

Hold on.

Where the fuck was his tie?

He specifically remembered keeping it in a special place so he could find it easily the next day.

The only problem was, he had no idea where the special place was.

He spent 10 minutes frantically searching for it while putting on his rings and then gave up.

"ENA DID YOU STEAL MY TIE!?"

"NO, WHY WOULD I WANT YOUR STINKY ASS TIE?"

"Would you mind KEEPING THE NOISE DOWN FOR ONCE!?"

.

.

.

"Finally, silence." Their father sighed.

Akito eventually found the tie under his bed (???) and by then, he had 17 minutes to get to school.

Which meant either leaving the pancakes he bought for breakfast at home (where Ena would definitely find them) or risk being late to school on his first day.

'Damn bigback.' The ginger prayed to the pancake gods that she wouldn't eat them.

Rushing out of the house, bag in hand and phone in pocket, Akito made a mad dash for the 8:15 bus. The universe chose that time for it to start raining. He leaped onto the bus, panting like he had just run a marathon.

At least he wouldn't be late.

He quickly texted Toya.

8:18am

Hey yk how I said I'd be there by 8:15 at the ;atest?

Well abt that

I'm gonna be there by 8:30

And that's if I'm lukct

Sorry

read 8:19

...

Hopefully you're not late

But you're going to explain why you aren't here

I've been waiting since 8:05 :(

---

He felt like absolute shit for making his best friend wait that long. He would definitely need to help contribute some ideas for their song they'd been working on to make it up to him.

Finally, he heard the announcement for his stop and ran off the bus, apologizing to the people he pushed past in his rushing.

Akito looked at the time on his phone.

'8:26.'

He had never run so fast in his life. Or felt so thankful to Google Maps.

Absolutely exhausted at this point and dripping with rain, Akito was grateful to see an unimpressed Toya waiting at the school gates for him.

"..."

"..."

"You quite literally just made it in time. At least we're in the same class for homeroom."

He was grateful for being in the same class as Toya, but something didn't feel quite right about it. Almost like an author wrote some information wrong in a fanfiction because of laziness.

Toya led Akito to the classroom, walking in front of him. He pushed open the door, signalling for the ginger to head in.

The blue-haired boy went to sit down. Seeing another free seat, Akito followed, but was cut off by the teacher.

"Come up and introduce yourself. I know you're a new student."

As he reluctantly made his way to the front, he was handed a piece of chalk.

"I'm Akito Shinonome," he began, writing the characters of his name on the board. "Um, I like street music and I'm actually part of a band with three of my friends. I don't really know what else to say, so, uh, I'll just find a seat now."

"Wait. You'll need a student guide, since you're new. Who wants to show him around the school?"

A few hands raised, including An's, but Akito immediately picked Toya.

"Okay, so you'll sit next to him. Luckily for you, there's a spare seat there."

He sat next to Toya, ignoring the curious murmurs of the class and the obnoxiously loud person talking in the hallway.

Even if he covered his ears, he could still hear the annoying, deep, boisterous voice.

Finally, as first period was starting, the noise stopped.

"Hey." Akito poked him, whispering. "Toya-kun." The boy turned around.

"What is it?"

"Who the fuck was that annoying ass guy in the hallway??"

"Oh! I can't believe I didn't tell you about him yet. He's Tsukasa. Tsukasa Tenma."

"Well, thanks for telling me who to stay away from."

"He's a good person, though. And he's like an older brother to me."

"Just because you're new doesn't mean you get to talk in my maths class." their teacher then gave Akito a side-eye.

'How did I get caught but Toya didn't??'

The lessons seemed to never end, but eventually lunchtime started and An walked up to them.

"Why didn't you pick me to show you around the school? This is such obvious favouritism."

"Yes, it is."

"Rude bitch." An muttered under her breath, which Akito heard.

"And you wonder why I prefer Toya-kun."

"Let's go get lunch before the queues get any longer." Toya tried to be the mediator of the conversation.

"What do you mean 'any longer'? It's literally been 1 minute."

"...You'll see when you get there."

As they walked to the cafeteria, he heard people talking, and Mizuki walked up to An.

"Hey An-chan, Aoyagi-kun, and Lil' Bro!" the pink-haired girl greeted them.

"Why are you even here? Go kiss Ena or something." Akito responded.

"Actually, I will later."

He only knew Mizuki because her and Ena were soulmates, so he often got to see the couple doing what he liked to call 'embarrassingly sappy gay shit'.

For example, one morning Ena didn't like the dresses she had, so Mizuki sowed her a new one within a week. As he was going out on the day Mizuki gave it to Ena, he was forced to witness them kissing in the doorway of their house, so 'naturally' got a pillow from inside, and threw it at the back of Ena's head. The poor couple were told to go make out somewhere else.

"Ignoring the goofy-looking carrot over here, I came here to warn you that the Weirdo Wombo Combo look like they're planning something again. Make sure you don't get caught up in any explosions. I don't really feel like staying for the rest of school, so bye!!"

"Bye Mizuki-chan!!" An waved to her best friend and the trio kept walking to the cafeteria, two of them seemingly unbothered by what Mizuki had just said.

"Are we going to ignore the fact that she just mentioned explosions might happen?" Akito sweatdropped.

"Oh yeah, you're a newgen in this school. Uh, so basically, two of our senpais like causing explosions and doing weird experiments in school. One of them is somehow still a hall monitor though, so you might see him around here."

"Well, Tsukasa-kun is usually unwilling to cause trouble in school. It's not his fault."

"Tsukasa? As in Tsukasa Tenma, the annoying loud guy from before? Honestly, I'm not surprised someone like him is involved."

"He's a good person, trust me. He's helped me before. Please give him a chance."

Akito sighed and kept walking along with the other two.

After a few minutes, they reached the cafeteria.

Actually, it was more like reached the outside of the cafeteria. The queue was so long that it reached the doors of the entrance.

"You said the line was long, but this is massive! How the fuck am I even supposed to get lunch??"

"Ugh, now all the good stuff will be gone. The line'll probably take at least fifteen minutes too."

Toya started to open his bento.

"Wait.

Did you... c-cook the food?" An asked cautiously, taking a few steps back.

If he had, the result would be worse than any of the Weirdo Wombo Combo's experiments. It could even cause a new virus.

"I took Kamishiro-senpai's advice from last time and Tsukasa-kun made my bento instead!"

Both of his best friends let out a sigh of relief.

"You guys can have some of my food if you want instead of waiting in the line."

Akito realized he was wrong. Toya was not his best friend, but an angel. He could practically see the halo and wings.

When they reached the school gardens and sat down, he heard a familiar shouting.

"NO! NOT IN SCHOOL!! WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE THAT?! WHY IS IT AIMED AT ME??!!"

This time, he was able to pinpoint where the voice came from. A boy with blonde hair, the ends pink, and frequently changing expressions seemed to be running away from his purple-haired friend, who seemed to have some type of rocket launcher (?!) in his hand.

He could faintly hear the response from Tsukasa's much calmer friend. "Don't worry, it's safe and harmless. I just want to test it out first..."

Akito's jaw dropped in shock at the display.

"If your mouth's open, you might as well eat some food." An shoved a sushi roll into his mouth.

"HEY, WHY'D YOU- damn, this is delicious."

"You're welcome."

"Why are you acting as if you cooked it?"

'What is even happening over there?' Akito's eyes locked back onto Tsukasa. 'That Tenma guy's really annoying, but he's also super good at cooking. His eyes focused on his blonde locks. 'His hair looks really silky and smooth... What would it feel like to touch it...?

Wait, what?! Why am I thinking about touching his hair?? What's wrong with me!?'

He decided he needed rest, something to clear his head. To quote what he'd heard some people say, 'clear his head'.  Maybe he was just tired.

'Yeah, that's it.'

"Guys, I'm going to go take a nap in that courtyard over there. See you later."

"Ok. Make sure you're not late to your next lesson." Toya waved to him.

"Bye!! See you later."

He started to walk to the courtyard, which, unfortunately, was also towards the Weirdo Wombo Combo. Akito decided to ignore the shout of "Wait, Rui!! Don't fire that!!", wanting to get away from them as quickly as possible. However, he didn't notice Tsukasa staring at him as he made his escape.

In seconds, he had a blonde boy standing in front of him. The same one he was trying to avoid.

'Why is he even in front of me?? This is like one of those annoying unskippable NPC dialogues in video games.'

Tsukasa, oblivious to Akito's internal struggle, started talking to him. "Are you new? Should I show you around the school??"

"... I already have someone helping me, so I'm fine." He briskly walked away from him, remembering the dangerous weapon behind him.

"Wait, hold on!!!"

"Don't come near me when someone's chasing you with a rocket launcher!!" Akito had started running.

"But Rui stopped!!"

"Ok, fine." 'You folded like a piece of paper.'

"Can we... um... go over there to talk?" He pointed to an empty classroom, which was inside the school building.

"Sure."

"So, I.

"Can I get your LINE ID after school?" Tsukasa asked.

"I guess so."

When Akito got back to Toya and An, he asked for the rest of the bento.

"Sorry, I ate it all." An shrugged.

"You might be even more of a bigback than Ena..."

"Wait, I told you to save some for him, though."

"..."

"But you look even more tired than before, Akito-kun. What happened?"

"I'll tell you in SEKAI. It's seriously so chaotic and this could be the most confusing day of my life ever. For once, I'm actually looking forward to classes."

An and Toya shared terrified looks. (Well, Toya's eyes just widened slightly.)

If Akito Shinonome, their best friend, was looking forward to class, something was very wrong.

The day finally ended and Akito looked for Tsukasa after saying goodbye to Toya and An.

"Hi Shinonome-kouhai!!!"

"Yeah, I think the whole school heard that."

"Thank you!"

"That wasn't a compliment- wait, how do you know my name?"

"I guessed it. Toya-kun talks about you a lot!! And," he continued, getting his phone out of his pocket, "Here's my LINE ID!"

"Wait, lemme scan the QR code... Ok, I'll text you later. Bye."

"Bye!!" He waved to him.

Akito's bus ride home was oddly quiet but the turmoil in his mind made up for it.

He got home, sighing from mental exhaustion.

"You look like shit. Well, you always do, but you look shittier."

"Wow! Thanks for the wonderful greeting Ena! I can feel my day slowly getting better!!" he replied, a big smile on his face. "Fuck off."

He looked in the fridge for the pancakes. As expected, they were nowhere to be found so he just went upstairs and opened SEKAI.

"Hi, Rin and Len."

"Hey, Akit- oh! you look tired." the twins replied in unison.

He opened the door to Crase Cafe, walking past An and Kohane's very obvious PDA and sitting next to Toya.

"MEIKO, can you give us hot chocolate, please? Thank you!!"

"When you finish making out with your girlfriend, I'll explain what happened today."

Akito chose to ignore the fact that Kohane had moved to sit on An's lap instead.

"Anyways, so..."

[i'm sorry but i am NOT typing out allat as a summary]

"...and I don't get why he would ask ME out?? Like, I'm obviously straight."

"Your jokes suck, Akito." An rolled her eyes.

"Jokes aside, it's clear that it'll probably never work because I don't like him at all. I accepted purely because of how cute his expression was when he asked me. Well, I didn't tell him that part because that would sound kinda weird."

"I thought you said 'jokes aside'?" Toya asked.

"Yeah, duh. I'm being serious. I don't like him."

"..."

"..."

"..."

"..."

By now, all of Vivid BAD SQUAD (and MEIKO, who had been listening in on their conversation) was staring at him with the most deadpan expression imaginable.

"What? Why are you guys looking at me like that?"

MEIKO just sighed and gave them all their hot chocolate.
