“All I wanted was to see you again!” Lidia snarled, her eyes narrowed, and entire body shaking with fury, as she spun to face the vault door, crutches clicking against the smooth surface.
“You’re a hero,” The words felt pathetic, even coming from Amata’s lips, “you have to leave. I’m sorry, I’m-”
Lidia cut her off with a growl, “I didn’t want to be a hero. I just wanted to be here. You’re worse than your father.”

The words felt like acid dripping into an open wound, and Amata snapped her jaw shut, unable to respond.

“At least my Dad chose to leave. You’d condemn me, for what?” She hissed at Amata, facing the new Overseer once again, “Because I did something different? I thought you enjoyed breaking the rules. I should’ve helped Butch destroy this whole Godforsaken building.”
Eyes wide, Amata gasped, but Lidia stalked out of the vault, the door grinding to a halt behind her.

Lidia sat, slumped on the ground outside of the vault, panting for breath, as she had 2 months prior, when Amata helped to smuggle her to victory. She rested her crutches against the wall, and pulled her inhaler from her pocket, taking a hasty gasp as she saw Fawkes approaching her, his small eyes large with worry.
“Friend? Is everything alright?”
She just shook her head, unable to force any words from her throat, and signed shakily, “We need to go.”
He nodded, and waited for her to stabilise herself, before striding across the Capital Wasteland as if he always had, despite having spent longer trapped in a vault than Lidia herself.

As they continued through the rocks, Fawkes turned back to her, “To Rivet City?”
Lidia nodded, and shook her head, then nodded once more, before shrugging. The sun shone weakly in the sky, but gathering clouds heralded a storm. Fawkes followed her gaze upwards, “Megaton?”
She nodded, desperate to curl up in her own bed, and forget all about Amata Almodovar. To live with the happy memories, rather than letting their daemons haunt her.

If Amata didn’t need- didn’t want her, she didn’t need Amata.

Lidia sighed, anger long faded to exhaustion. She wanted Amata. She couldn’t imagine a time in which she didn’t.
