Shane approaches the window slowly. He’s not on Earth. He’s very much not on Earth.
He’s adrift in deep space, surrounded by an utter ocean of stars. It’s nothing like the view from Earth. He can tell exactly how far away every lonely flickering ball of gas is, and they’re very, very far away.
On his left, a series of monitors come to life, one displaying a map.
“You have arrived at Tau Ceti. Engine shutoff in 5 days, 13 hours, and 23 minutes. Current distance from Earth: 11.9 light years.”
Fuck. He’s so fucked.
When Shane finds himself in outer space, missing all his memories and armed with strict orders to solve the scientific conundrum threatening to extinguish all of humanity, he doesn't quite know where to begin.
