Work Text:
Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne had been on patrol, which neither of them were allowed to be on, and Jon got hurt, nothing major. He wasn't paying attention and someone punched him so hard it hurt him.
Currently its around midnight, which meant they had to sneak in, somehow no one saw them and their mission was successful, they got in the bat-cave.
Damian had put Jon under red light, so that he can clean up the wound on Jon left arm, near the wrist
Jon is in pain, for a guy so used to having indestructible skin, reraly feeling pain, made this feel like getting stabbed with kryptonian by the Joker, (really did a Jason Todd move,) it felt horrible.
Jon is making some noises in pain some grumbling and groans from the back of his throat, Damian tried his best to ignore his boyfriend but it was extremely hard, it was definitely harder than getting Timothy Jackson Drake to sleep.
The glow of the red solar lamp's bathed the room in an dim light, stripping Jon of his typical invulnerability. For all of Jon's height and muscle, without his powers, he was like a normal human under Damian's trained, hard grip.
After Jon tried being a man and tried acting tough(he failed miserably) after he stopped, he asked "Damian, hey, sunshine quick question. Just out of curiosity, how much longer do I have to be under these lights?"
Damian doesn't even glance up from cleaning the skin, he got used to Jonathan complain s "Until your checkup is over, obviously. And it is only halfway done, so you will be under there for a little while longer."
Jon bites his lip, being careful to not hurt himself on accident, nods, hums, and asks "Right, no, because I, I don't wanna rush you, because, you know, rushing leads to mistakes..." Jon trailed off but then continued "And everything. Um, just, uh, you know, I don't, I don't need any, like, vaccines today, do I?"
Damian, who was raised by the league of assassins, and who's father is Batman-the world's greatest detective-, means Damian knows damn well when someone is lying, its like a truth and lie scale is engraved in his brain, and he knows damn well that Jon is lying, so after a second or two of nothing he finally glanced at Jon and asked "Jonathan, are you asking if you need to get a shot?"
Jon moves his free arm to run the back of his neck suddenly feeling very hot and very sweaty "Yeah, you know, just so I know what's going on, just, you know, so I have, like, a, like an idea of, you know, what's to come."
Damian fully stopped cleaning looking up straight into Jon's blue eye's, the eye's look like the ocean on a nice sunny day, maybe even like the blue clear sky on a nice day out, Damian could stare at those eyes forever and never get bored.
Damian stared. "...Beloved..."
"..Hm?"
"...Are you afraid of needles?"
Jon is sweating, a lot, the room feels very hot, he doesn't want to tell the truth he's slightly scared of what Damian might thing.
"No. What grown man is afraid of needles?," Jon did a fake breathless snort "I have indestructible skin. I am the least afraid of needles on the planet." Jon answered with the full confident of someone who just lied to the love of their life.
Damian adds with zero problem "Yes, but right now you don't have indestructible skin, now do you?"
Jon gulps hard his throat feeling weirdly dry "You don't have to remind me of that. No, I'm fine. This is fine. Everything about this is fine, and i 100% do not have a fear of itty bitty needles."
Damian knows that Jon is lying, he knows it extremely well, and Damian find's his boyfriend's lying extremely amusing, so for payback(and because its fun) Damian decided to lie back "That's good to know."
Jon immediately suspicious, asked "Why is it good?"
"Because," Damian continued with complete seriousness, "You are going to be needing at least four of them."
Jon froze.
"...Four?"
"Minimum."
Jon's eyes widened.
"Four."
"Correct."
"The pointy ones?"
"...There are non-pointy needles?"
Jon,tries to stand up and leave "No. Absolutely not, NO."
Damian caught Jon by the left shoulder, before the older boy could even fully plant his feet on the cold floor of the Batcave, Damian pressed him firmly back down into the chair.
"Sit down, Jonathan" Damian commanded, though the sharp edge of his voice was betrayed by the faint, amused twitch at the corner of his lips. "You are bleeding, your skin is currently vulnerable, and you are acting like a five year old."
"Four, Damian? Four?!" Jon’s voice cracked slightly, his blue eyes wide with genuine panic as he looked around, as if looking for an escape route. "What could I possibly need four shots for? I’m half-alien!"
"It is a preventative," Damian lied smoothly, reaching for a bottle of cleaning alcohol and a clean pack of gauze. He took great care to keep his face completely serious, knowing exactly how to play his boyfriend. "Given the environments we patrolled tonight, the risk of infection from standard human is high. Since you insist you are not afraid, this should be a trivial matter for the 'Least Afraid Man on the Planet'."
Jon swallowed hard, his eyes tracking Damian’s hands as they moved near the medical tray. He winced, not just from the stinging spray of the cleaning alcohol on his torn arm, but from the terror of the imaginary syringes.
"Stay still beloved." Damian murmured softly, leaning in close to carefully wipe away the blood from Jon's wound. He applied a neat, perfectly placed bandage, his touch surprisingly gentle despite his harsh words. Once the dressing was secure, Damian reached up and flicked the switch on the wall.
The bright red lights clicked off, instantly replaced by the normal, cool white lighting of the cave. Jon felt the sudden, familiar rush of warmth under his skin. The solar energy in his cells surged back to life. His minor aches vanished, and his skin instantly hardened back into its steel-like state. He let out a massive sigh of relief, slumping back against the chair.
"There," Damian said, stepping back and tossing the used gauze into the biohazard bin. "Your checkup is complete. And your skin is once again entirely indestructible."
Jon blinked, looking down at his freshly bandaged arm, then up at Damian’s smug, annoyingly handsome, expression. "Wait. What about the four needles?" Jon asked, genuinely confused, tilting his head, like a confused cat.
"There are no needles, Jon," Damian said, a rare, genuine smirk breaking across his sharp face. "But your heart rate spiked to 160 beats per minute the moment I mentioned them. For someone who claims to be entirely unafraid, you are an incredibly poor liar."
Jon glared, he was relieved there were no needles but at the same time, dod Damian have to lie "that was rude sunshine"Jon had finally said after a lot of beats of silence
Damian brushed him off, waving a hand like he did nothing "yeah, yeah, are you still staying over for our sleepover or...?" Damian trailed off.
Jon answers with no hesitation still feeling slightly annoyed "I obviously will Dami, but just one small, tiny request, do not let your siblings see me please. I do not want them bursting in because there wondering what were doing when were just watching a movie that happened so many times, i genuinely hate it."
Damian let out the tiniest sigh. "...Yes. Grayson lacks the ability to knock."
"And Jason!"
"Correct."
"And Steph!"
"...Also correct."
"Cass at least just appears."
"...She does."
"It's terrifying."
Damian snorts and answers sarcasticly "So, beloved sure so what how are you planning on eating dinner? Because if you think ill bring you something its a no"
Jon pauses, his mouth opens and closes, he is thinking then gets an idea which is sometimes a bad one "i can fly and i have super-speed i can sneak out of your window buy something and eat then come back through your window"
Damian places a hand on Jonathan shoulder "Well beloved a small detail that you have forgotten is that current mostly everyone is in the living room they will see us passing by, so your plan has a small flaw"
Jon opens his mouth to argue, but his dear ex-assasin boyfriend has a point, he closes and opens his mouth like a fish gasping for air. "Well id like to see you think of a better plan."
Damian thinks for about 5 seconds then answers with a better plan. "We can use the tunnels, and go to the kitchen we can take a few of Alfred turkey sandwiches and snak up to my room."
"..Okay your plan is way better than mine.
"I know, beloved.
---------------------------------------
They successfully got to Damian room without anyone noticing them. They had managed to liberate—according to Jon, borrow—two of Alfred's turkey sandwiches from the kitchen on their way upstairs.
"They're not stolen," Jon insisted, setting the plate on Damian's desk.
"They absolutely are."
"They're borrowed."
"You intend to return them?"
"...Eventually?"
Damian gave him a look.
Jon sighed.
"Okay, fine. They're stolen."
"They were prepared for anyone in the manor," Damian corrected.
"So..."
"So technically, we are authorized to eat them."
Jon grinned. "Oh."He immediately picked one up.
"Then they taste even better."
Damian quietly accepted his own sandwich and took a bite as he swallowed he said. "They taste the same."
"Not when they're victory sandwiches." Jon counterpointed.
As they both sat down on Damian bed, Jon took the TV remote and said "Were watching star wars." He didn't even ask.
Damian hummed, then he waited for Jon to specify which one, after Jon didn't specify Damian asked "Which one?"
Jon realizing his mistake answers "Oh, i meant the "A New Hope."
"...Beginning at the beginning."
"Exactly!"
Damian nodded approvingly. "Acceptable."
Jon beamed."I knew you'd agree."
As Jon clicked for the movie to start, Damian(who had finished his sandwich) leaned closer to Jon, and Jon threw an arm around his boyfriend in a comforting way, the way people dp it without even realising, when they did that so many times they dont even notice when they do. And after Jon did that Damian just leaned his head on Jon shoulder resting it their.
For several minutes, neither of them spoke
Then suddenly Damian spoke fully serious.
"Beloved."
Jon kept his eyes on the movie and hummed "hm?"
"If you even breathe during the best scene of the entire movie i will peacfully and lovingly murder you."
Jon snorted "oh yeah?" Damian nodded and Jon continued "whats the best part of the movie then."
Damian answered without hesitation, he never hesitates he was raised by the fact that hesitation means weak so he easily answered "the trench run, the culmination of Luke Skywalker's growth, The tension, the music, the sacrifice, Valder pursuit." Damian crossed his arms though he didn't move his head from Jon shoulder. "it is the finest scene."
Jon glanced at Damian and answered "absolutely not, the cantina scene is the best one, it is entertaining."
"It lacks the emotional weight of the finale."
"It has aliens!"
"The finale has Darth Vader."
"It has Han Solo!"
"The finale has the destruction of the Death Star."
"I can hum the cantina music."
"..."
"You can't hum the Force."
"...That is not how judging a film works."
"It is now."
Damian had just stopped questioning it, and stopped speaking he just continued watching the movie without speaking.
The scene that Damian had been waiting for finally came
Without realizing it, Jon's arm, still draped around Damian's shoulders, grew heavier. His blinking slowed. He'd been running on patrol for hours, healing injuries under the red sun lamps, then flying around Gotham, and now he'd finally stopped moving long enough for his super-metabolism to decide it was done for the night. His head dipped once. Then twice. His eyes closed. A few seconds later Thunk. Jon's head gently settled against the top of Damian's.Soft, even breathing followed.
Damian blinked. "...Jonathan?"
No response.
He looked up just enough to see Jon completely asleep, mouth slightly open, still loosely holding him.
Damian looked back at the television.
Then back at Jon.
Then back at the television.
"..."
The trench run.
His favorite scene.
He sighed "Jonathan."
nothing
Damian nudged Jon with his elbow. "...Wake up."
Jon mumbled something completely unintelligible. "...Mmff... five more..."
"It is the trench run."
Jon's eyes fluttered open for exactly half a second.
"Huh...?"
"You fell asleep."
"I did...?"
"You did."
Jon groaned dramatically and dropped backward onto the beanbag. "My metabolism betrayed me."
Damian took the TV remote and rewinded the scene "your watching the entire scene."
Jon opens his mouth and starts "but sunshine-"
Damian cuts him off no hesitation "no, while the scene starts I'll change into a different shirt this one is slightly unpleasant."
Jon removes his arm from around Damian shoulders and whines "and I'll be here forced to watch the scene from finish till end"
Damian got out of the bed, and went to his walk in closet(perks of being rich) he walked in, and found a specific hoodie, it was a merch hoodie of superboy, he had this hoodie while he only had a crush on Jon.
After he walked out Jon knew it was a merch hoodie because under the red, crimson S is written boy very small and hard to see, but Jon had enhanced vision
"your kidding me." Jon said, voice way too smug.
Damian tilted his head slightly confused "what is it?" Damian asked.
Jon points to the hoodie Damian is wearing(Right as Damian gets back into bed and sits next to Jon) "your wearing a superboy hoodie, you have my merch."
Damian turns red he is embarrassed and blushing "don't make it a big deal."
"My boyfriend is my number one fan."
"Jonathan."
"Also i saw the entire trench run end to finish truly enjoyed it.
Damian sat back down beside Jon, "I told you the trench run was the best scene."
Jon hummed "uh huh sure, but im still not letting go of the hoodie thing, im keeping that forever."
Damian mutters "shush im tired."
Jon whispered "alright."
For a moment, neither of them said anything. Then Damian glanced at Jon's arm, which had fallen away slightly.
With a quiet sigh, he took Jon's wrist and gently moved his arm back around his shoulders. Jon looked down at him.
"you could have just asked, sunshine." Jon mutters voice soft and low.
Damian leaned his head against Jon shoulder his eyes feeling heavy and mutters "I know."
Jon heard the tiredness in Damian voice, the sleepless nights and all the patrol's finally got to his boyfriend.
Jon tried moving to get himself and Damian(his priority being Damian) more comfortable, but Damian hard, grounding hold didn't let him, Jon could have used his super-strenght, but Damian is always alert even while asleep, so he knew if he used it he'd wake Damian up, so he didn't move he let Damian be like that in that pose.
As the movie played in the background, Jon didn't care anymore. He was playing with Damian's hair as his own eyes started closing. He tried staying awake—really tried—but after three minutes at most, Jon also closed his eyes and fell asleep. His head fell against Damian's lap while his arms dropped down; his right arm rested on Damian's side, and his left arm was thrown across Damian's knees.
The air was quiet, as they were both asleep, they couldn't care about anything else, just themselves, the life they build and are planning to expand as they get older.
