The clock on the top corner of the wall in front of the practice room could be heard from where Soobin stood. His hands gripping his messeger bag like his life depended on it. Well, to be fair it might aswell had been depending on it, in a way. The hands of the clock pointed to two minutes before midnight.
It was too late for anyone to even be near the building of the university. So what was Soobin doing there? Well, actually he didn't even know how he ended up being in the building so late in the night.
Except, he actually did.
In two minutes, when the clock would strike midnight, it would be the deadline for the latest essay that he needed to turn in. Of course, as the punctual, good student Soobin would never be, he waited till last minute to even begin thinking about writing it.
The thing was, he needed to do some research about the topic of the essay first, so he headed to the universitie's library. Not to actually do research about it. Let's be for real. He was a twenty two year old guy walking around with his phone being always in his pocket, if not in his hand. Google was as easy to access to, as looking at the sky. Research was not the actual reason he decided to pay a visit to the library.
Well, it might kind of have been. But not reaserch on the topic of the essay, but research on the long haired boy that would usually help the old lady who worked at the library. The long haired boy with the delicate features and nice smile that could steal everybody's attention.
Not that Soobin was attracted to him. Not at all. Soobin was straight. Has been, since forever. He had even dated girls before, that much was known.
He just liked looking at the guy from time to time. The boy with the brown hair reaching down his shoulders had a strong aura evolving him like it demanded everyone's attention just by being in the room. The way he carried himself alone suggested that he was full of confidence. Magnetic, was the right word, as Soobin thought.
What stopped his train of thought though, getting him out of his head, was the steps that could be heard coming from the practice room he was walking in front of.
He froze. He hadn't expected anyone being here this late. Maybe it was a cleaner.
He looked at the clock. Its hands pointed to midnight.
As the steps started sounding louder, indicating that whoever was coming from the practice room was getting closer, he saw him. The boy with the long hair from the library, all sweaty wearing a simple white t-shirt and grey sweatpants. It was clear that he had been practicing. 'He must major in dance', Soobin told himself.
As the boy got closer he could see his face more clearly. Shit, he was even better looking from up close.
Then suddenly he stopped walking and bent down as if to catch something that had fallen on the ground right in front of Soobin. "You dropped this" he said
And then got up holding Soobin's bunny themed pen.
Soobin could have aswell droped dead. It was so embarrassing. Who even carried bunny themed pens in their bag at the age of twenty two.
Well, Soobin did, apparently.
"Thank you" Soobin said in a low voice, hoping that the earth would magically open up and shallow him whole and at the same time praying that the sun would explode right there and then.
"I didn't even realize I dropped it." He admitted, an awkward laugh leaving his lips while he lifted a hand to scratch the back of his head in a shy manner.
The guy smiled softly with tired eyes that revealed how hard he had been practicing. "Oh its nothing, dont mention it" the boy said handing Soobin his pen back while letting his gaze drift to the window and then back to Soobin.
"Oh my name is Beomgyu by the way." He exclaimed, his smile, although looking tired, never leaving his lips.
"Beomgyu?" Soobin asked, Beomgyu's named rolling out his lips like it has always belonged there. It sounded nice, he decided. Although he'd never say it out loud.
"Nice to meet you, im Soobin." He slightly bowed, offering a small and friendly smile to Beomgyu.
"Oh wait, I know you!" Beomgyu remarked enthusiastically looking as if he had put two and two together. "You're the guy that presented his art works in that gallery back in last year's festival, aren't you?" His smile getting even bigger raising a hand to point at Soobin as if trying to prove a point.
Soobin's breath caught in his throat. He knows me? He thought. "Yeah.." he replied with a tone of hesitation in his voice. "Yeah that was me. Im surprised you even remember that." Soobin uttered with an awkward laugh accompanying his words again.
At that, Beomgyu looked genuinely confused "What do you mean you're surprised I even remember? Dude, your paintings were amazing!" He said as if complimenting Soobin was as simple as breathing.
But to Soobin it wasn't that simple. Soobin was shocked, in fact. Nobody praised him like that. Especially people he had just met. At that, he lowered his head, looking at his shoes. Facing Beomgyu suddenly became difficult, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. A small "Oh thank you." was all Soobin could manage to say.
Then Beomgyu averted his gaze from Soobin to the clock on the wall gasping like he had just seen a ghost. In response, Soobin lifted his gaze from his shoes to Beomgyu's face catching his worried expression.
"Shit." Beomgyu suddenly whispered "its past midnight, we gotta go. Its late. See ya around!"He told Soobin waveing him off as he moved past him, run-walking towards the nearest gate. Not without offering Soobin one last gentle smile.
Little did Beomgyu know that Soobin didnt move from his spot until a minute later still processing everything that happened. Little did Beomgyu know that Soobin went to sleep that night thinking about their interaction until sleep finally got the best of him.
But little did Soobin know that this was just the beginning of their story.
