Hero has been working here for as long as he can remember, and employee of the month was now a trivial reward for the horrifying sights he endured in it. It'd molded a once honorable, and ironically, heroic person, into someone whose forgotten all the good values his wife once painted in him. Now that he's lost her, there simply wasn't any way to get those values back. Even if his young lab partner insisted otherwise, and his victims of neglect hid their disappointment.
