the one with all the kissing

Summary:

“I’m gonna get going,” Mike said, making a move towards the door, before turning around and leaning over Harvey’s desk, pressing a chaste kiss against his cheek as a goodbye, like he normally did when no one else was around “I’ll see you later.”

Mike moved to leave the office and for a brief few seconds after the kiss, everything was normal.

That was until Mike realised what he’d just done.

or; Mike and Harvey get together + the scene in Friends where Chandler accidentally kisses Monica in front of everyone and proceeds to kiss them all but make it Marvey.

Work Text:

Mike hadn’t meant to kiss Harvey. Not the first time at least.

He had been working in the bullpen, fiddling with the neon caps of his highlighters as he did so, fighting to stay awake. Unintentionally, he was one of the last associates to be there seeing as it was nearing 11pm and the others had left hours earlier, with only a few other stragglers at the firm, including Harvey.

Mike had been running on a combination of energy drinks and coffee, wanting to have a meal, but trying to push through the last few documents he needed to go through for Harvey so he could finally go home.

He’d been coming back from the break room, maybe his fifth cup of coffee of the day in hand when he saw Harvey standing by his cubicle, holding a white plastic bag.

“Got you food.” Harvey stated, placing it on Mike’s desk, like he did this all the time, casually leaning against his desk, blazer off with his sleeve rolled up.

“Oh.” Mike said, slightly perplexed at the sight but grateful nonetheless.

He moved closer to where Harvey was standing, watching as he opened the takeout bag, pulling out two containers, one probably for himself and one for Mike.

Maybe it was the lack of sleep or proper sustenance. Or maybe it was the fact that Harvey somehow knew what Mike needed whenever and in whatever situation.

He was always there for him, whether Mike wanted it or not.

Either way, Mike couldn’t quite explain why he did what he did but in the next moment he’d pulled Harvey into a kiss, pressing his slightly chapped lips against Harvey’s, the warmth of his body bleeding into Mike’s.

As if gaining consciousness, Mike pulled back, eyes wide, opening his mouth, ready to apologise for having clearly lost his mind when Harvey moved closer to him, pressing Mike into his desk and he cradled his jaw gently, pulling him into a kiss.

He pulled away for a second at the feel of Mike smiling as he kissed him back, muttering a soft ‘What’ with a matching smile on his face, lips close enough to Mike’s for him to feel the words rather than hear them.

Mike shook his head with a smile before bringing Harvey in for another kiss, looping his arms around his shoulders, all thoughts about work fading away, Harvey at the forefront of his mind.

Although, maybe that's how it always is.

—

It had been three months since Harvey and Mike had had their first kiss, their arguably not very platonic friendship shifting into a romantic relationship, unbeknownst to anyone at the firm.

Three months of sneaking behind their coworkers backs, spending late nights and early mornings together.

Three months of stolen kisses in hallways and offices.

Three months of hiding their relationship, just to have it uncovered in the span of two minutes.

—-

Mike had just entered Harvey's office, noticing Donna and Louis who were sitting on the couch, flicking through documents, though Louis seemed to be spending more time trying to poach Donna from Harvey, rather than actually work on the case.

He placed the documents that Harvey needed on his desk before noticing the time on his watch, realising he had to leave for a meeting.

Mike looked back at Harvey with a shocked expression as though Harvey was the one who’d just kissed him, before looking over at where Donna and Louis were sitting, staring at them, jaws slack, utterly confused at what they’d just seen, though maybe Donna had a gleam in her eye, as though she’d just been able to confirm something she suspected all along.

Mike was frozen for a second before he made his way over to where Donna was sitting, his body reacting before his mind could. He leant down, kissing her quickly on the cheek, breathing in her soft floral scent, a stark contrast to the woody notes of Harvey’s cologne that he’d grown to find comfort in, watching as her face screwed up in even more confusion at what he was doing.

He gave her an awkward smile before turning towards Louis, pressing a quick kiss on his cheek, patting Louis’ cheek after, acting as if this was the norm, shooting what he hoped looked like a smile but really was more of a grimace at him.

Louis just stared at him with a horrified expression.

Mike turned away quickly, noticing that Rachel had now appeared near Harvey, utter shock on her face having witnessed the whole debacle, though the slight smile on her face did not go amiss.

He looked down at Harvey, who was still sitting at the desk, now leant back in his chair, looking down, rubbing at his face as if that was going to hide the obvious smile on his face, clearly amused by what Mike was doing.

Looking back up at Rachel, he saw that she had been looking over his shoulder mouthing something at Donna, before he moved closer to her kissing her on the cheek too, their proximity and awkwardness closely resembling the time they faked being a couple at an apartment viewing.

Mike turned around towards the door, hoping to make a swift exit but instead saw Jessica stood in the doorway eyebrow arched with a questioning look on her face far too reminiscent of the one Harvey often directed at him, both at work and at home.

“Don’t even think about it.” Jessica said before Mike could even think about making his way over to her.

Shooting her a sheepish, if not slightly pained smile, Mike took this as a sign to leave as fast as he could, wanting to let Harvey deal with the fallout of Mike’s choices, though it seemed more like he found the entire situation amusing.

He turned around just in time to see Rachel pulling out a twenty dollar bill from her pocket, handing it over to Donna, who grabbed it with her fingertips, a slightly too knowing look on her face as she winked at Mike, looking as though she was expecting something like this to happen.

Maybe they hadn’t been as secretive about their relationship as they thought.
