Work Text:
“Twenty bucks says they’re dating.”
Rachel looked up with a start, not expecting to see Donna peering over her desk, a mischievous look on her face.
“Who?”
“Mike and Harvey.” Donna replied with a gleam in her eyes.
“There’s no way-”
Rachel had barely been able to finish her sentence when she saw Mike through the glass walls of her office, walking towards Harvey’s office, the man himself hot on his trail, their conversation unclear but Harvey smiling as he spoke.
Her gaze flicked back to Donna, who was already watching her, one eyebrow raised.
“There’s no way.”
—
It was later that day when Harvey walked out of his office did Donna notice another thing. She watched as he made his way to the elevator, briefly stopping at Mike’s cubicle, leaning over the cubicle, pulling Mike’s earbud out of his ear as he spoke to him, before continuing on his path.
Fifteen minutes later, Donna had been walking back to her desk from the breakroom, stopping mid-step when she noticed Harvey standing over Mike’s cubicle again, this time handing him a cup of coffee, before walking back to his office, without a cup in hand.
She’d never seen Harvey care about an associate enough to even remember their name and here he was, getting Mike a coffee. But friends got each other coffee.
Without getting one for themselves though?
Maybe it was just a one-off.
Except it wasn’t.
The next time she saw a similar exchange between the two, Rachel was thankfully walking by her side, the two of them walking back to the firm from lunch, arms linked together as they walked through the crowds of people.
Mike stood by the coffee cart, grabbing a cup from the vendor, thanking him as he did so. He’d just taken a couple sips when Harvey appeared, taking the coffee out of Mike’s hands. Mike, seemingly expecting this exchange, turned towards the coffee cart again, grabbing the coffee the vendor had extended out, shaking his head but not looking particularly upset by the interaction.
Instead he just followed behind Harvey, almost puppy-like, jogging slightly to catch up with him.
Donna nudged Rachel, “See. That’s not normal.”
“They’re friends. Friends do that.”
“Harvey doesn't.”
—
Donna knew Mike had a tendency to gravitate towards Harvey’s office the later in the day it got, as less and less people were still working at the firm. She’d often find him occupying the couch in Harvey’s office at quieter times like this, even when they weren't working the same case. It was almost a part of their routine at the firm, working together quietly.
Except right now, Donna had looked over into Harvey’s office to see that Mike, instead of working alongside Harvey, was fast asleep, sprawled on Harvey’s couch with his head resting on the arm of the couch. He had a blazer, suspiciously similar to the one Harvey had been wearing all day, draped over him. Donna looked over at Harvey, who was working at his desk, without a blazer on, looking over at Mike sporadically as he worked.
The Harvey Specter she knew would never let an associate fall asleep at the firm, let alone cover them up with his blazer, in his office of all places. Although it did, in some ways, make sense. It was in fact only Mike he’d act this way around, only Mike he’d care for so blatantly.
Whatever Mike and Harvey had going on was different. She knew that. Everyone knew that.
Donna made sure to discreetly take a picture of the scene in front of her, quickly sending it off to Rachel. She had to. For the bet of course. Not to taunt Mike with after this whole betting fiasco was over.

Being Harvey’s assistant meant that she was privy to most of the things in Harvey’s life, both in and outside of work. So when Harvey started getting her to book regular reservations at restaurants for dinners she knew weren't work related, her suspicions were raised. She had her doubts before the regular reservations but this seemed like it could be particularly revealing.
Donna walked towards Rachel’s office, rapping her knuckles on the door of her office, getting Rachel’s attention.
“Get up. You’re coming with me.”
“What? Where?”
“I’ll catch you up on our way there. Just follow me.”
“On our way where-”
Before Rachel could finish asking, Donna strutted out of her office, leaving Rachel no choice but to follow behind her. The two of them walked out the firm, Rachel still confused by the sudden plans even as they hailed a cab, Donna opening the door for Rachel to get in first, placing a hand on the small of her back as she did so.
Once they got to the destination, Donna stepped out, pulling Rachel to her side as they walked together towards a fancy looking restaurant.
The very restaurant Harvey had reservations at.
“You’re stalking him.”
“No I’m not. I’m just trying to see who Harvey’s been getting dinner with.”
“That’s literally stalking. Besides it’s not going to be Mike-”
Donna’s gasp cut her off, prompting Rachel to look at whatever had surprised her. Her eyes widened as she saw Mike and Harvey seated together, seemingly deep in conversation.
“Friends have dinner.”
“At a restaurant like this?” Donna exclaimed, gesturing at the sleek restaurant, fitted with almost romantic lighting, the space filled to the brim with what seemed to be only couples.
Rachel pondered on what she said for a couple seconds, before replying “Let’s leave before they catch us.”
“Fine.” Donna replied, rolling her eyes slightly, “You owe me twenty.”
Had they stayed a second longer, they would've seen the way Harvey intertwined his fingers with Mike’s, rubbing his thumb over Mike’s knuckles, smiling softly as he did so.
—
Over the following week, Donna took note of all the looks the two shared, the way their eyes lingered on one another, the secretive smiles they shared when they thought no one was looking. The feeling that there was in fact something going on between the two of them just kept nagging her.
Until the call.
She’d called Harvey, wanting to let him know of a last minute meeting that Jessica had assigned to him. But it wasn't Harvey who picked up.
A muffled voice came from her phone, “Hello?”
A voice eerily similar to Mike’s.
Donna took the phone away from her ear, looking down to make sure she had in fact called Harvey and not Mike. Her eyes widened as she glanced at the caller ID, a gleeful smile on her face as she brought the phone back to her ear.
“Mike?”
“Why’d you call me so early, Donna?”
“I didn’t call you. I called Harvey.”
It was silent for a second, before Donna heard the rustling of sheets and a whispered ‘Harvey’ before the man himself came to the phone, voice gruff with sleep.
“Donna, is everything okay?”
Donna smiled to herself as she relayed the information she had called to share.
There was definitely something going on between the two. She wouldn’t let Rachel know just yet. Donna could wait a little longer. A little longer to see the shock on Rachel’s face and to be twenty dollars richer.
