Shane was in deep sleep when he heard a scream and awoke abruptly.
“No!” Ilya cried.
Shane turned around quickly and saw that Ilya still had his eyes closed. He placed one hand on Ilya’s cheek and held his face steady.
“Ilya wake up. You are dreaming.”
“No! You are lying! The most beautiful person in the universe is Shane Hollander!”
Ilya wound his arms around Shane and pulled him hardly to his chest.
“And he is mine!”
Shane still tried to wake Ilya up but he was also laughing. When Ilya finally opened his eyes he looked perplexed at Shane.
“Why are you laughing?”
“Because you talked in your sleep and it was really funny.”
Ilya looked perplexed.
“No. That’s not true! I don’t do this.”
“Oh you did, baby.”
“And what, pray tell, could I have said that was so funny?”
“You seemed to fight with someone about me being the most beautiful person in the universe. And you said that I am yours,” Shane explained.
“Even if that sounds like something I would say, because it’s very true, this never happened. Maybe it was your own dream,” Ilya said confidently.
“Try telling yourself that. I know what happened.”
“Pfft. You have a sleep addled brain. Close your eyes again, sweetheart. And dream about me telling you how beautiful you are and how much I love you. And I will sleep in silence like I did before.”
“Sure, baby. I love you, too.”
Ilya kissed Shane’s forehead, Shane kissed Ilya’s chest and Ilya didn’t relinquish his hold on Shane. He still held him close to his chest. And in this position they found sleep again. Ilya was still mumbling in his sleep, but Shane didn’t wake again.
