THE SUN AND THE MOON: OF INTROSPECTIONS, VERSES, AND PROSE FOR LEONARDO

Summary:

Riario’s love language manifests in two things: acts of service and the written word. That is: while Leonardo expresses himself through paintbrushes and ink, the Count finds his best friends in pen and parchment. And it is there, as well as in the deepest recesses of his mind, that he allows himself to describe—in that meticulous handwriting so uniquely his—everything he was never able to verbalize out loud about his artist.
(…)
In short: a collection of letters, declarations of love, free verse, reflections, and first-person introspections by Girolamo Riario regarding Leonardo da Vinci.

Notes:

Hello. How are you all doing?
Initially, I thought about posting separately the many snippets, introspections, love declarations, and other pieces that came to mind over time as writing exercises using Girolamo Riario's narrative voice—whether in first or second person. However, I decided to compile them into a single collection of short texts for better organization. Therefore, please do not expect any specific order or overarching narrative structure in what will be published here. The chapters will rarely have any connection—they are all essentially Riario either thinking about Leo, talking about him, or confessing his love to him. Most of them assume an established relationship between the two, as a good portion originated from roleplays where I dare to bring the Count to life, whether in the Renaissance or in a modern setting. At the end of the day, I hope something shared here pleases anyone who, like me, unconditionally ships this pair.
Please note that English is not my native language. All the material available here was originally written by me in Brazilian Portuguese and translated for publication on this platform. As such, I apologize for any typos, phrasing errors, or inconsistencies that may occur in the text.

Chapter 1: ECLIPSE

Chapter Text

And the more the River of Time flows forth, transmuting the unborn future into the present moment, the deeper I find myself submerged in the invigorating certainty that, since the dawn of days, we were carved for one another.
Two keys, two heavenly bodies—sun and moon—in distinct hemispheres of the exact same celestial coin. Poles in apparent opposition, yet, at their core, completing each other with the precision of an alchemical conjunction, binding art and science into the most sublime of truths.
It is you: the sole sun that captivates me, in body and essence. Even beneath the black veil of night, your radiance is never extinguished. For wherever you dwell, there you shine in living gold, bearing a light capable of warming even the coldest abyss—a dark cavern in which you claim my soul as your rightful inheritance, turning obscurity into a tender twilight. You rise in flame and dawn, in majesty and genesis, the primal spark of creation—an ardor that pulls me from the earth and impels me toward you, without fear of ruin or an Icarian fall.
Behold: in this celestial procession where dusk weaves sunset and sunrise into a single moment, I am, in truth, your dark mirror—a silent, silver reflection; a moon that shapes itself in absence, a satellite ascending at the mere touch of your golden glow.
For if you stand at the threshold of day, where lies the spirit to brave uncharted firmaments, I am the one who rests within the hours when secrets insinuate themselves, where the hidden whispers with the voice of sleeping memories. Yet, if I am—among the specters wandering the umbra—a vessel of unreachable substance, you become the luminescent key charting a path through the gloom, spilling clarity over all I have bound to you—and to you alone, the artist who carves truth into my very blood: my truth, reflected in your eyes.
And even when the vast azure stretches between our bodies and time sets itself up as a tyrant, your light rests upon my skin as if every single ray had been woven by the hand of Fate itself—solely to touch me, solely to fulfill me with that which the world, in its cruelty, had once stolen from us.
For you were carved—from the noble marble—for me, just as I was molded for you. Two keys cast into the mantle of oblivion by the relentless march of ages, destined without reprieve to unite in flawless symmetry by the inescapable hand of providence. Two hearts once exiled, now rendered into a living presence; essences intertwined upon the loom of the Fates, an alliance whose tapestry reaches far beyond the thresholds of time, immune to the ruins of centuries and the whims of vicissitude.
And so, you make yourself chaos to my order, while I become the balance to your wild excess. Because no matter how boldly the world attempts to drag us to opposing shores, time—that all-knowing entity—knows we have always been better together: light and shadow, creativity and logic, impulse and design.
And, above all else, sun and moon.
For in the deep currents governing the flow where past, present, and future converge into a single entity, we are an eclipse.
